Chapter 292: Chapter 292: Claiming the First Victory

It wasn't as if Beedrill couldn't see the sky-blue energy rushing at him with the force of Gust. Yet, with unwavering determination, he charged forward, trusting both his own instincts and Ash's commands!

While Gust, as a Flying-type move, was super-effective against Bug-types, it wasn't particularly powerful.

Even if Beedrill took the hit directly, his impressive special defense would help him withstand it, preserving his strength.

More importantly, he saw this as a rare opportunity to close the distance with his opponent!

The fierce wind struck him head-on. Beedrill hesitated momentarily, his expression flashing with discomfort.

But in an instant, he pushed forward, enduring the gust's force as he closed in on Butterfree.

Activating his Poison-type energy, Beedrill concentrated the venomous power into his needle-like stingers.

As Butterfree's face filled with alarm, Beedrill thrust his stingers forward in a fierce strike!

While Poison-type moves weren't super-effective against Butterfree's Bug and Flying combination, Beedrill's precision and strength caused a significant impact. Butterfree was launched backward, tumbling over ten meters away.

"Bobby!" Ritchie's eyes widened in shock. He hadn't anticipated that Ash would initiate such a relentless offensive from the get-go. His plan unraveled, leaving him momentarily stunned by Butterfree's sudden vulnerability.

"Keep up the pressure, Beedrill! Charge in and use Poison Jab again!" Ash commanded without missing a beat, leaving Ritchie with little time to react.

Quickly regaining his composure, Ritchie knew he had to act fast. Despite Butterfree's injuries, it steadied itself and faced Beedrill, awaiting its trainer's next instruction. Ritchie clenched his fist and called out,

"Use Confusion!"

Although Butterfree wasn't a Psychic-type, it had learned Confusion, a Psychic move effective in close combat.

Psychic-type moves were strong against Poison, yet Beedrill's Bug-type partially resisted the damage.

But Ritchie's strategy wasn't solely about damage—Confusion could disrupt Beedrill's movements and give Butterfree room to recover.

"Pfreee!" Butterfree focused its Psychic energy, a pinkish-purple light surrounding it and radiating outward, sending waves through the air.

The invisible force blanketed the space within a fifteen-meter radius, trapping Beedrill in a telekinetic grip.

As he neared Butterfree, Beedrill suddenly felt as though he'd hit an invisible wall. The force held him back, his movements constrained and his progress halted.

Beedrill struggled, but the psychic energy pulsing from Butterfree immobilized him, sapping his energy.

"Beedrill's got more than Poison-type moves up his sleeve!" Ash called out, reacting to the situation immediately. "Beedrill, use X-Scissor!"

"Beeee!" Beedrill let out a piercing cry, focusing Bug-type energy into his stingers, causing the Poison-type energy to dissipate.

Instead, his stingers now glowed with tea-green energy, the telltale sign of X-Scissor's power.

The psychic grip wavered, destabilized by Beedrill's shift in energy.

Crossing his arms into an 'X' shape, Beedrill lunged forward. Butterfree's focus wavered, and despite its effort to maintain control, Beedrill broke through the telekinetic hold.

"Bobby, dodge it!" Ritchie shouted, his expression tense. He knew Butterfree couldn't withstand another hit from Beedrill's powerful move.

Without any better option, he commanded Butterfree to evade, hoping it could buy them enough time to counterattack.

Obeying instantly, Butterfree stopped channeling Confusion and darted to the side in an attempt to avoid Beedrill's approach.

But Beedrill reacted just as swiftly, adjusting his trajectory and speeding toward Butterfree's new location.

Bam! The green cross-shaped energy struck Butterfree squarely, breaking through its defenses.

Even though Bug-type moves weren't fully super-effective, Beedrill's forceful strike sent Butterfree flying backward. The impact was severe, landing it in the dirt and leaving it unable to continue the fight.

"Butterfree—!" The cry escaped from Butterfree as it slid across the ground, its wings twitching as it struggled to rise. After several more attempts to lift itself, it finally lay still, its energy completely drained.

"Butterfree is unable to battle! Beedrill wins!" The referee raised his flag, and the Indigo Stadium burst into cheers.

"As expected of Ash! His Beedrill is truly impressive!" the commentator exclaimed, his excitement evident.

"Beeee!" Triumphant, Beedrill hovered in front of Ash, proudly displaying his victory. Though he might have once been one of the less prominent members of Ash's team, he had proven his strength today, standing on equal ground with his teammates.

"Great work, Beedrill!" Ash praised, pumping his fist in celebration. Pikachu, beside him, jumped up and down, cheering on Beedrill with enthusiasm.

"Come back, Bobby…" Ritchie muttered as he recalled Butterfree, regaining his composure. A look of determination settled on his face as he analyzed Ash's strength.

Only by facing Ash in battle had he come to fully understand the skill his friend possessed.

"But I won't give up so easily!" Ritchie called, selecting his next Poké Ball. Enlarging it, he tossed it onto the field. "Jibo, it's your turn—take down that Beedrill!"

From the Poké Ball, a bright light emerged, revealing a massive silhouette as it landed. The light dispersed, unveiling Jibo, Ritchie's Charizard, who let out a powerful roar as it faced Beedrill.

Charizard

Type: Fire, Flying

Category: Flame Pokémon

Ability: Blaze

Hidden Ability: Solar Power

Blaze: When Charizard's health drops below one-third, the power of its Fire-type moves increases by 1.5 times.

Level: Silver

"After losing his first Pokémon, Ritchie sends out Charizard as his second choice! Charizard is the perfect counter to Beedrill.

How will Ash respond now? Will he keep Beedrill on the field or switch Pokémon?" the commentator speculated excitedly.

"Beedrill, return!" Ash made the logical choice to recall Beedrill. After his hard-earned victory, Beedrill wasn't in a position to face Charizard. If Beedrill had developed further techniques, Ash might have taken a risk, but for now, that wasn't an option.

"Blastoise, let's go!" Ash called, releasing Blastoise onto the battlefield. The massive turtle Pokémon emerged with a fierce expression, cannons gleaming and ready for battle.

Unlike his animated counterpart, Ash wasn't one to ignore type advantages. By strategically following type matchups, he knew he could secure victory more efficiently. This was a critical step toward winning the championship.
