Pokemon: A Fisherman's Tale

On the ninth day of survival on the island, the sky was cloudy, but no rain fell.

Ryan woke early, rising with the dawn. After his fever broke, sleep was elusive. He moved carefully, leaning against the thick trunk of a tree, watching the sun rise.

The fire had long since gone out. Beside him, Poliwag slept soundly, crystal-clear drool trickling from its mouth as it dreamed. Ryan smiled, not wanting to disturb it. It had worked so hard the day before.

In the world of Pokémon, even a Poliwag could take care of someone like him. In his previous life, the smartest human pets only had the intelligence of a child.

He quietly chewed on some salty seaweed to regain energy, watching the sun rise higher and warming his body.

Eventually, a drop of dew fell from the tree above, landing on Poliwag's nose, waking it up. "Yo yo…" Poliwag blinked sleepily, then noticed the sun rising on the horizon and Ryan missing from its side.

Panicked, Poliwag jumped up, looking around before spotting Ryan by the tree. "Yo yo, yo yo!" It cried happily, bounding over to him and leaping onto his chest.

"Ah, gentle! Gentle!" Ryan exclaimed, coughing as the 40-pound Poliwag landed on him.

Poliwag backed off sheepishly, realizing its mistake. Ryan stroked its head gently, and the Pokémon's big eyes blinked innocently, careful not to hurt him again.

"It's okay, Tadpole. Let's make breakfast," Ryan said, gathering his strength to rekindle the fire. He boiled some water with kelp to make a simple meal.

Poliwag helped by bringing more wood, and together they shared their meal. The Pokémon seemed hungrier today, devouring most of the kelp while Ryan ate just a little.

As they finished, Ryan asked, "Poliwag, are you ready for special training?"

Poliwag's eyes lit up. "Yo yo, yo yo!" It was ready to become stronger, its determination clear in its bright gaze.

Ryan smiled. "Good. Let's see how your Water Gun proficiency is," he said, opening Poliwag's stats.
