Our own hell; lord of the death trial

Chapter 3: 3. Round one

They were shared into groups of twenty, each group awaiting their turn to fight. They sat on the floor caged in the inside of the Colosseum, waiting for their turn to take on the beasts while enduring the horrifying screams of people being eaten alive and screaming for help. They all were tense, replaying the only memory they could recollect as the reality of a second death hung heavily in the air, this was most likely their grave. The place stank of urine and some metal, the people in front blocking the light from reaching those behind. He saw her, the hooded lady. Her hood was down, her curly mane of hair covering her face partially, and stopped short of her shoulder. She pulled her hair behind her ear willing it to stay, but it stubbornly popped back into place. She fascinated him, and yet she seemed strange, but so many people seemed strange anyway, with features he was sure he had never seen before. He touched his hair combing his hands through it while watching her. She glared daggers at him, and he looked away from her returning his attention back to the fight. The bell tolled, signaling the end of the last fight and the beginning of theirs. He watched as the bars were lifted, everyone gulping nervously as they were given a signal to proceed. They all walked out into the blinding sunlight once again, but this time they were facing what could possibly be their deaths. He looked up at the surroundings wondering what the seats in the colosseum were for. The sound of the bars lowering was all he could focus on as the ground vibrated, announcing the arrival of a beast, his heart dropping as the sound of the iron lowering took away with it the only hope of their survival.

"It's only one" He heard the others whispering as the beast walked into the light. *** ***

She stared at it in awe, stunned by the sheer ugliness of it. "What sort of hybrid is this" she said to no one in particular. She looked around her watching those who whispered that it should be easy to kill, and scoffed "fools" she muttered beneath her breath shaking her head at their stupidity. She looked up at the sky as a timer appeared in the sky with a ten minutes deadline. She walked to the wall and rested on it, inspecting her nails as though she had nothing better to do.

He stood behind, examining the beast, his hand on the hilt of his sword. It was a creature with the body of an ox, the eyes of a fox, ears of an elephant and claws. "we could all take it down if we work together" he heard, but he wasn't sure of that. He watched as three men charged towards the creature, with five people following them closely behind. The ash haired lady pushed a man to the floor "out of the way fucker" she said and continued lubricating her Ak-47 before loading it. She hung it across her shoulder, checking that her AR-15 was loaded before snapping it into place. She heard what the honey skinned lady with the hood muttered and smiled. "Scared much" she said looking at her briefly before focusing back on her weapon. "I am Kai by the way" she said raising it up to her eye level and mimicked shooting a target before lowering it in satisfaction. "See you out there" she said looking the hooded lady in the eye before she turned to leave. "My name's Emma" she heard her say, and paused, suppressing a smile from breaking forth. She glanced at her for the last time before walking on with determination.Even if she was going to die, she would pelt the creature with her bullets first.
