Chapter 9: Giant Fly Swatter

"Boom!"

The deafening sound of cannon fire erupted as a dozen cannons on the Black Bone ship fired simultaneously, engulfing the Kado in a barrage of explosions.

Onboard the Kado, Fite quickly maneuvered the ship to evade the incoming projectiles. Shells exploded in the water nearby, sending sprays of seawater high into the air and rocking the Kado violently.

Despite Fite's quick reactions and his adjustments to the ship's position, one cannonball still struck the deck, blasting a massive hole into it.

"Damn it, this isn't going to work! Our long-range firepower can't keep up. We need to come up with a plan," Kado said, standing at the bow and looking at the massive Black Bone ship with its dozens of cannons. "What if we just ram them and engage in close combat?"

"No way, our ship is too small. If we get close, we'll likely be rammed," Fite said, glancing at the massive ship that was several times larger than the Kado. He frowned, realizing that their opponent's size and firepower were overwhelming, leaving them no chance to approach.

"Damn it, I never thought I'd be defeated by having a smaller ship and less firepower. Next time, I'm definitely getting the biggest ship in the world, and anyone who crosses me is getting rammed!" Kado said fiercely.

"We definitely can't win in a head-on fight, but a big ship won't be as agile as ours. Let's focus on catching the white-bearded shark first. Once we have it, they won't dare use their cannons against us. That'll force them into close combat," Fite suggested after some thought.

"Yeah, this plan isn't great, but it's the only option we have now. If we can't catch the white-bearded shark, we'll have to ambush them at the harbor and force a confrontation," Kado nodded, scanning the sea for any sign of the elusive shark.

Meanwhile, on the black bone pirate ship, the skinny guy reported to Filly, "Captain, it seems they're not trying to fight back. They're still searching for the white-bearded shark."

"Humph, I knew it. This spineless coward wouldn't dare to fight back. But we still need to be on guard against them snatching up the white-bearded shark first. Pass my orders: deploy all fishing boats to patrol the waters and search for the white-bearded shark. I'll stay here personally to intercept anyone trying to steal it," Captain Fily commanded.

"Yes, Captain" the scrawny guy replied before turning to carry out the captain's orders.

"It seems the enemy has deployed their fishing boats, patrolling this area of the sea," Fite observed closely, having just spotted the other side's boats as they were being launched.

"Haha, this is truly a stroke of luck for me! Once their boats spread out, they'll be too afraid of friendly fire to fire their cannons recklessly," Kado said, rubbing his fists eagerly. "Quick, prepare the small boats! I want to take them all down."

"It's a critical moment—no need for preparations. Just cut the small boat's rope and jump right in," Fite said. Without thinking twice, Kado ran to the stern, cut the rope holding the small boat, and jumped in.

"Fite, stand back and watch the captain put on a show!" Kado shouted, standing in the small boat and waving his oversized oar.

Fite glanced at Kado, and after catching sight of the huge oar, his expression changed slightly as he shouted, "You idiot, you took the wrong oar!"

The oar in Kado's hands was actually a large emergency oar from the Kado ship, about seven meters long and as thick as a bowl. It was designed for rowing large vessels in calm conditions, and it was twice the length of the small boat, making it completely impractical for actual rowing.

"Haha, I didn't grab the wrong one! If he uses it as a fly swatter, it'll work great!" Kado swung the giant oar around like a crab brandishing its pincers, charging toward the black-boned fishing boats.

In the distance, on one of the black-boned pirate ships, three pirates spotted Kado's small boat early on. Seeing his bizarre appearance, they burst into laughter and started to comment:

"Is this guy an idiot? He even grabbed the wrong oar! How is he supposed to row with that thing?"

"I bet he was scared silly by that cannon earlier. Can you believe this guy is actually a well-known pirate hunter in the East Sea? It just goes to show how weak the East Sea really is compared to the others."

"Let's capture him alive! I'm sure Captain Fily will be thrilled."

The three pirates noticed that Kado's small boat was actually heading straight toward them, and they couldn't help but feel delighted. Just as they were thinking about capturing him, he was practically delivering himself to them. It seemed like fate was on their side, and they were destined to earn this victory.

Meanwhile, Kado looked utterly panicked, bewildered as to why he was charging toward the pirates' fishing boat.

"Haha, this guy is really scared silly!"

"Hey, hey! You there, surrender quickly, or else you might end up getting yourself killed by mistake!"

The three pirates mocked Kado, enjoying his panicked expression.

"Oh, is that so?"

As the two boats drew closer, Kado's panic suddenly transformed into a warm smile. He raised the giant oar high above his head, sending up a spray of glistening water as he swung it down hard toward the pirates' small boat, directly in the blazing midday sun.

The three pirates stood there with their mouths agape, frozen in shock. It wasn't until the droplets from the splashing water hit their faces that they snapped out of it. Without a moment's hesitation, they leaped into the sea, moving so fast they resembled fish leaping from the water.

"Smack!"

The giant oar, wielded with tremendous force, smashed the fishing boat beneath the waves. It took a long moment before the wreckage of the split boat slowly resurfaced.

In the distance, the three pirates who had narrowly escaped bobbed to the surface, gazing up at Kado, who was swinging the enormous oar. A chill ran through them as they thought, What kind of power is this? If that oar had been smaller and faster, we would have been turned into meat paste!

"What a tragedy—I didn't catch a single one! This fly swatter is just too big to be effective," Kado said, patting his backside. He quickly replaced his expression of triumph with one of panic and steered the small boat toward the wrecked fishing boat.

Kado had intended to play the harmless fool, hoping to deceive others while conserving his strength. However, his plan backfired; the noise from smashing the small boat was loud enough to draw everyone's attention to the giant fly swatter in his hands. As soon as the pirates noticed Kado approaching, they threw their fishing harpoons from a distance, trying to stop him with ranged attacks.

The flurry of harpoons indeed caused Kado significant trouble. On his tiny boat, barely two square meters in size, there was little room to evade. He barely managed to dodge several harpoons that came flying at him all at once.

After dodging a few harpoons, Kado gained some experience. With each near-miss, he smashed a few small boats, significantly reducing the number of harpoons aimed at him. Feeling increasingly carefree, he raised the giant oar high, chasing after the black-boned fishing boats as if swatting flies.

"Damn it!" Fily fumed from the bow of his ship, watching as his advanced fishing boats, meticulously prepared for the hunting competition, were being destroyed one by one. Clenching his fists in anger, he shouted, "Nilton, drop the lines! Let that guy come aboard; I want to deal with him personally!"

"Yes, Captain," the thin man known as Nilton personally walked to the side of the ship, lowered the rope for climbing, and shouted at Kado in the distance, "You pathetic thief who only knows how to steal and cheat, dare you come aboard for a fight?"

"Thief? Pathetic?" Kado, who was excitedly swatting at imaginary flies, suddenly stopped at those words. "It's been a long time since anyone called me pathetic, and my skills as a master thief are far from just petty theft!"

Kado swung the giant oar down against the surface of the sea behind the small boat, creating a massive splash that propelled him forward like lightning toward the black-boned ship. A few months ago, he had taken out sixty million pirates with his ambush tactics. Now, after another round of training, it was the perfect opportunity to test his skills once more.
