Chapter 35: Victory or Defeat?
Slowly crawling out from the massive crater Kaido had slammed him into, Ray struggled to get up. His body ached in severe pain, even though he managed to cover his body with Haki, he still took a lot of damage.
Although Kaido was a physical beast, Ray himself was no slouch and could be considered top-tier. Ray's clothes and coat were now in tatters while he stood proudly yet completely battered.
Tearing his Marine Coat and shirt off as Ray began to grin with a dangerous gleam in his eyes.
"Hah hah... HAH HAH HAH! Simply wonderful... I've been waiting for a battle like this you bastard!" Ray announced whilst laughing maniacally as his Conqueror's Haki surged to unprecedented heights. The very air creaked in pain as Ray unleashed his Haki and forced his will onto the world.
Thud
Kaido landed onto the ground as he patiently observed Ray, who seemed to have changed.
'His supreme king haki... it's stronger than before' thought Kaido as he narrowed his eyes in caution.
Not even milliseconds later, Ray appeared in front of Kaido as his Haki came crashing down onto the Yonko. Familiar with his speed, Kaido reacted naturally as he swung his kanabo at Ray's head, threating to smash it into pieces.
Efficiently ducking underneath the massive kanabo, Ray dodged as in a burst of speed he whipped his right leg across the Yonko's chin like a whip. Thud
Naturally, Kaido was blasted away by the sheer force of the kick. Seeing as how most of the surroundings had been flattened by the combined efforts of both fighters, Kaido flew across nearly half the island before crashing across the ground.
Grunting in pain, Kaido slowly got up using his kanabo as support. Despite being built like a titan, Ray's haki was destructive and penetrated through his defences.
Before fully recomposing himself, Kaido's Observation Haki flared like never before. Not even a split second later, a massive beam of pure haki flashed before him as the size engulfed his humongous figure.
ZzzzZt
The beam was naturally Ray's deadliest long range sword technique, Salvation.
As the beam devoured through everything in it's past, Kaido barely managed to raise his weapon in time before it fell upon him.
Both half-dragon, half-man and the beam struggled before their clash reached it's climax as the beam shattered. A unfathomable amount of haki spread out and decimated the surroundings even more.
A brief silence loomed over the battlefield before Ray a sizeable distance away from Kaido.
"You tough bastard, even that didn't break you" stated Ray as he slowly walked towards the Yonko.
"Wo Ro Ro Ro, in all my years on the seas, very few have managed to contend with me. It seems another has appeared." replied Kaido as he saw Ray as one of the few he respected.
Adding on Kaido said, "Unlike those 3, you've focused your efforts entirely onto Haki"
"Enough of your blabbering, let's resume our battle" concluded Ray as his eyes glowed with Observation Haki, analysing the future possibilities.
Completely willing to comply Kaido did the same as both fighters glared at one another.
Soon after, the battle resumed as fighters at their level would need days to conclude their battles without interference.
2 days later...
G-14 Marine Base simply no longer existed, 3/4 of the island the Base resided on was evaporated by the intensity of their battle.
Ray could barely stand straight as the sound of jagged, short breaths escaped his mouth. His figure bloodied and burnt. There was no doubt he'd carrying these wounds for the rest of his life. Across both his forearms, signs of severe burning were present despite his powerful Armament Haki.
Having to block Kaido's breath attacks in both his hybrid and full form were hard to just shrug off.
On the opposite side, Kaido although not as tired still barred multiples slash wounds across his body. Despite not all of them being deadly, some would serve as a reminder of Ray's prowess as a swordsman.
In particular a large gash appeared over his left eye which healed due to his regeneration as an awakened mythical zoan fruit user but it didn't save his eyesight.
"Hah hah hah... it seems... you fit that new look of yours, Kaido" mocked Ray in a low voice, he was nearly out of gas.
In response Kaido's haki surged violently as he was truly infuriated, no one had truly wounded him this badly in all his years at sea.
Blitzing towards Ray, Kaido swung his kanabo horizontally at his torso. Only managing to lift his arms and cross his forearms together, Ray attempted to block as best as he could but was smashed away.
Chunks of debris spread far as Ray laid flat on his back on the ground as his bones creaked in pain and begged for rest.
'Fucking get up!' thought Ray as he used desperately his last ounce of willpower to barge through his physical limits and stand up. His right arm shaking, Ray used his beloved sword Kurenza as support to get up.
However Ray stood frozen for a moment, eyes widening as a kanabo swung toward him with brutal precision. He saw it coming—each inch of its arc, the air thick with the promise of impact. A chill ran down his spine, but instead of fear, something ancient stirred inside him, awakening from the depths of his very being.
His muscles tensed, not to evade, but to meet the strike head-on. Time seemed to slow as his instincts sharpened, a primal force rising from within. With a flicker of intent, he shifted, and the club sailed past, missing its mark by inches. His eyes narrowed, the spark of something long dormant now burning bright as his haki transformed.
'What.. is this' thought Ray for a brief moment before his body turned around sharply and faced the same attack again.
Kaido swung his kanabo with a brutal snarl, aiming straight for Ray. But the other—unfazed, almost serenely unaware—seemed to move in slow motion, his body swaying like a leaf in the breeze. The club whooshed through empty air as the evader dipped sideways, his movements fluid, almost dreamlike.
He leaned back, a perfect arc, narrowly avoiding the swing, and then twisted away from the next strike like he was floating. His eyes half-lidded, a lazy smile tugging at his lips, as if the world around him had slowed to a crawl, and he was simply along for the ride. Kaido missed again, and again, while Ray danced through it all, like someone high on some invisible rhythm.
This continued for a few more clashes before Ray's body could physically no longer move and Kaido smashed his weapon onto his body. The strike so powerful it made Ray flicker in and out of consciousness.
'Fuck... is this the end' thought Ray as his mind spun rapidly for solutions before quickly concluding that he could truly do nothing.
Laid flat on his back once again, Kaido loomed over Ray and started deeply at the Marine. Their battle had truly been close and if not for Kaido's incredible stamina it may have ended differently.
"Wo Ro Ro, a magnificent battle... Ray" spat out Kaido as he finally announced his opponents name.
"I'll be sending you off" concluded Kaido as he prepared to deliver the finishing blow...
However, a bright flash of light quickly blinded Kaido before a leg made entirely of light whipped in a powerful arc across the side of his head and as expected the half-dragon Yonko was swatted like a fly.
All Ray saw before he lost consciousness was a man in a yellow striped suit with a Marine coat draped over his shoulders like a cape, his arms rested casually in his pockets.
"Hmm~ quite the number he's done onto you, Ray~"

A day later, Morgans released a World Economy Newspaper that shocked the entire world...
[G-14 Marine Base, New World]
[Kaido of the beasts clashes with Marines! A new Admiral!?!]
In the newspaper, it stated...
[Reports of a pirate reeking havoc on the G-14 Marine Base in the New World, Vice Admiral Ray "The Guardian" was dispatched to stop Kaido of the Beasts, renowned as the world's "Strongest Creature", Captain of the Beast Pirates or commonly referred to as a Yonko. Previously defeating the All-Stars King and Queen a few years ago, Vice-Admiral Ray was perceived as a formidable figure who may possibly rise to the same level as the Marine Admirals]
[However, surpassing the expectations seemed to be a regular occurrence for the Vice-Admiral as he fought on equal terms with the Yonko for 2 days by himself!]
[Although being defeating by the mighty Yonko was his fate, he was saved in the end by Admiral Kizaru who forced the heavily injured emperor to retreat]
[In conclusion the G-14 Marine Base no longer exists... Is this the rise of a new powerhouse in the Marines?!?!]
