Chapter 198: Chapter 199: The Power of Suzaku
"Ugh..." "Bleh..." "This is absolutely disgusting!"
Jack barely chewed twice before forcing the Devil Fruit down his throat, but the overwhelming stench nearly brought tears to his eyes.
It took him a long while to recover before he finally closed his eyes, focusing on the changes in his body.
His recovery ability had improved significantly, and on top of that, his defense seemed to have strengthened as well. After a few more tests, Jack decided to pull up his status panel to check his attributes.

Jack scanned his status. Aside from his Perception stat, all of his attributes had hit the ceiling.
As for Suzaku's powers... other than granting him the flight ability he had long desired, most of its skills were passive.
"Flight and Flame Body count as skills? This is Suzaku we're talking about! Those should be innate!"
Blazing Annihilation made sense—it was the move Weevil nearly used to take him down. But what the hell were "Auspicious Sign" and "Exorcism" supposed to be?
"Good things occasionally happen? What kind of ability is that?!"
Jack felt a little disappointed. He had chosen to eat the fruit the moment he recognized its name, all because of what Kaido's fruit could do.
Flight aside, Kaido could conjure storms, lightning, and all sorts of natural disasters with ease. When he transformed into a dragon, he was a walking catastrophe. It was cool as hell!
But Jack?
"What the hell, man?! This is supposed to be Suzaku! One of the Four Sacred Beasts, on par with the Azure Dragon, Black Tortoise, and White Tiger!"
"Azure Dragon is badass. And Suzaku is... lame?"
"This has to be a joke! Fire? I could already use fire without this fruit!"
Jack collapsed onto the ground in frustration, staring up at the sky. Stretching his legs out in a relaxed manner, he let out a long sigh.
"Forget it. At least I can fly now. And with the Rebirth skill combined with my immortality, the world is mine to roam."
He had heard that Shanks had been defeating pirates left and right recently, even earning Kaido's recognition for his strength. Maybe after some time, Jack would take to the seas and have a proper duel with that red-haired bastard. It'd be a good way to see just how "impressive" Shanks really was.
For now, though, Jack decided to rest for two days. Given his current regeneration rate, that should be more than enough time to recover fully.
Initially, he had thought that Miss Bakkin would be furious at him for killing her son, Weevil. But to his surprise, her first reaction wasn't grief—it was anger.
Then, she had simply stared at him for a long time.
It was the kind of look that made Jack feel like he was lying on an operating table while a surgeon hovered over him, scalpel in hand, preparing to cut him open.
And he hadn't even been given anesthesia yet.
Not wanting to deal with her, and considering her ties to Kaido, Jack had decided to hand her over to Ginrummy for safekeeping. With that settled, he returned to his room to focus on recovery.
Two days later, Jack checked himself over and confirmed something important—
The organs Weevil had weren't his own.
Jack had suffered severe injuries, yet he had healed in just two days without a single scar. Meanwhile, Weevil's body still bore surgical stitching that wouldn't fade. That was definitely not normal.
And Miss Bakkin's strange reaction...
That short, goblin-like old lady was definitely hiding something.
Maybe this was why Kaido had taken Yamato and raised her himself?
But then again, why would he bother bringing her back?
Was he looking to rekindle old memories?
Judging by Miss Bakkin's looks, though...
Jack highly doubted she was Kaido's type.
Then again, who knew? Maybe it was one of those "you only want what you can't have" situations...
Still, no matter how much you compressed a body, the best you'd get would be skewered meat on a stick...
Never mind. Kaido's personal life was none of his business.
Hopefully, Yamato wouldn't end up hurt.
...
While Jack lay there lost in thought, a pirate ship flying the Whitebeard Pirates' flag was rapidly approaching the fragmented island.
Marco stood at the bow, his expression dark with fury.
"Pass the word—full speed ahead!"
"Some bastard dared to set foot on an island under the Whitebeard Pirates' protection. If they're still here, I'll make them pay!"
Nearby, Teach grinned widely and said, "Zehahaha! Marco, it's been over a week. Don't you think they're long gone by now?"
"Even if they are," Marco shot him a sharp glance, "I'll go after them myself."
"Anyone who disrespects Pops' name—I'll make sure they regret it!"
Teach's grin widened. "Zehahaha! Of course, of course, Marco! That goes without saying!"
Just then, the ship's lookout suddenly shouted, voice laced with urgency.
"Marco! We've spotted a pirate ship! The flag is—"
"It's the Beast Pirates! Drought Jack is here!"
"What?!"
Teach's grin froze.
Marco clenched his jaw before shouting, "So what?! You think I'm scared of Jack?! Whitebeard's name will not be tarnished!"
"Don't forget—I can fly!"
"Drop anchor! Stay here—I'll handle this myself!"
