Chapter 195: Chapter 196: Jack’s Misunderstanding
Cough cough...
Jack hesitated for a moment. It was best to confirm her identity—just in case he'd gotten it wrong.
Miss Buckin flinched at the sound of coughing. She turned around, looking up and up at the massive pair of boots in front of her until—
Bang!
"Ah! My neck! My neck!"
Looking at Miss Buckin's heavily wrinkled face—one that even her oversized sunglasses couldn't conceal—Jack immediately felt he might have made a mistake. Surely Kaido-san had better taste than this...
Wait a second. Women in this world seemed to age very rapidly. Maybe... just maybe...
As Jack contemplated helping her up, a panicked shout suddenly broke the silence:
"Who are you?! What do you want with my mother?!"
Swish!
Boom!
Jack barely dodged the sudden slash, his eyes narrowing as a hulking figure barreled toward him. The man bore a striking resemblance to Whitebeard with that crescent-shaped mustache, but... his snot-dripping face ruined any impression of dignity.
Wait, did he just call that woman "Mom"?
While Jack was still piecing things together, Miss Buckin had already picked herself up off the ground. Glancing at the deep gash left by the slash, she kicked the man's foot with surprising force.
"Weevil! You nearly killed me!"
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Miss Buckin delivered several sharp kicks in rapid succession. The man—Weevil—nodded furiously, apologizing with tears in his eyes.
"I'm sorry, Mama! I'm so sorry! Mama, I promise it won't happen again!"
"Hmph! Weevil, you foolish boy!" Miss Buckin adjusted her oversized sunglasses, her voice suddenly brimming with emotion.
"I'm not afraid of being killed by you. What I fear is leaving this world, knowing that no one will love you as much as I do!"
"Waaah! Mama!"
Weevil burst into loud sobs, lifting Miss Buckin into a crushing hug. Jack was half-expecting to see her snapped in two.
As mother and son shared this heartwarming(?) moment, Jack's crew exchanged confused glances, unsure how to proceed.
What... what even is this situation?
This wasn't just Kaido-san's "mother-in-law running off with someone else." No, this was his "mother-in-law running off with her son!"
Wait a second. That son...
Jack's gaze fell on Weevil's weapon and his crescent-shaped mustache. Groaning, he pressed a hand to his forehead.
This is bad.
Kaido-san! No wonder you keep making trouble for Whitebeard. Turns out, there's a story here we didn't know about!
Suddenly, a group of terrified villagers ran toward them, screaming for help.
"Save us! Please save us!"
Though Jack and his crew looked far from trustworthy, desperation had clearly driven the villagers to cling to any hope. Strangely, these villagers were all muscle-bound, but it seemed they didn't have the courage to fight back.
Jack clicked his tongue in disdain. Without hesitation, he pulled out his spiked club, ready to send them off himself.
Swish!
But Weevil was faster. With a flick of his massive blade, the villagers collapsed without a sound.
Cough cough!
"You idiot! Stop causing trouble!" Miss Buckin scolded, smacking Weevil a few times before turning her attention to Jack.
"You're Drought Jack, aren't you? What do you want with us?"
"Mama, these guys look like trouble!" Weevil pointed his blade at Jack, glaring. "Let me deal with them for you, Mama!"
Jack's eye twitched. The nerve of this guy! Look at you, dripping snot everywhere, and you dare call me trouble?
"You bastard! Watch your mouth!"
"You think you can disrespect Jack-sama like that?!"
Jack's crew drew their weapons, ready to retaliate, but Jack raised his hand, silencing them.
"You fools! Stop making noise!"
Similarly, Miss Buckin calmed her son, patting him lightly on the arm. Jack gave her a sidelong glance and spoke in a low voice.
"You're Miss Buckin, aren't you? I'm sure you know why I'm here. Kaido-san misses you deeply and has sent me to bring you back."
Miss Buckin adjusted her sunglasses, her expression skeptical.
"Kaido? That little brat? Miss me? Bring me back?"
She chuckled coldly.
"We haven't seen each other in years. I doubt our relationship was ever that close."
Jack frowned. Kaido-san... so you were just her boy toy after all?
After a pause, he tried again.
"Feelings aside, there's still the matter of your child. Yamato would be overjoyed to learn you're alive."
"Yamato?"
Miss Buckin was silent for a moment before bursting into laughter.
"Hahaha! What nonsense are you spouting? I have no idea what you're talking about!"
Her tone turned icy.
"If I refuse to go with you, what will you do?"
Jack's grip tightened on his spiked club, his face expressionless.
"Then I'll have to resort to... forceful persuasion. Please don't hold it against me."
Miss Buckin leapt nimbly from Weevil's arms, shouting, "Weevil! My son!"
"Kill them all!"
"Understood, Mama!"
Weevil sniffled loudly, sucking his snot back into his nose. With a roar, he raised his massive blade and charged at Jack.
"You dare oppose Mama? Die!"
Clang!
Weevil's blade collided with Jack's spiked club, the impact forcing both men to stumble back a step.
Jack's eyes lit up.
This guy's strength isn't half bad!
Seeing Miss Buckin slip away, Jack called out to his men.
"Hey, Finder! You guys, stay back!"
"This one's no pushover. Don't get in my way!"
"Jack-sama, where should we go?"
"Figure it out yourselves!"
Jack smirked at Weevil, beckoning him with a finger.
"Come on, idiot! Let's see if you're as strong as they say!"
As Jack strode toward the port, Finder and the others hurried after him.
But Weevil wasn't far behind. By the time they reached the docks, Jack was already waiting aboard his ship.
Seeing Weevil catch up, Jack leapt down with a thud.
"Bring the ship closer! Let's see if you're worthy of the title 'Admiral Slayer!'"
