Chapter 107: One Piece: A Side Story – The Forgotten Isle (Part 108)
The glowing symbol in the center of the cavern pulsed with an unsettling rhythm, almost like a heartbeat. The air around it hummed with ancient energy, a force beyond the crew's comprehension. They stood together, facing this new, cryptic challenge that had suddenly emerged from the depths of the island's mysteries.
Luffy grinned as usual, his eyes alight with determination. "Alright! We've got a new mystery to crack! Let's go, everyone!"
"Luffy, we need to be careful," Robin warned, her gaze fixed on the symbol. "That figure said the cycle can't be undone unless the true keeper of time steps forth. But what did it mean by that?"
Franky let out a sigh, wiping his brow. "We've been through a lot, but this island's got more secrets than a treasure chest. Whatever this keeper of time is, we'll have to find them. It's the only way to stop this island from collapsing on us."
Sanji squinted at the glowing symbol. "I'm not sure what we're dealing with here, but I don't like how it's making the air feel… like time itself is on edge."
Zoro took a deep breath, scanning the surroundings for any hint of danger. "This place is getting more twisted by the minute. Let's not waste time talking—let's find this so-called keeper."
As they approached the symbol, the ground beneath them vibrated again, and the cavern walls shifted. The air grew heavier, as if the island itself was alive, reacting to their presence. It was clear that whatever the crew had triggered by awakening the Heart, they had only scratched the surface of a much larger mystery.
Suddenly, the symbol flared up with brilliant light. The crew shielded their eyes as the light grew blinding, and in an instant, a massive rift opened in the center of the cavern. A whirlwind of light and shadows whirled around them, distorting the space as if reality itself were tearing apart.
"Is this it?" Nami shouted over the roar of the energy, gripping her staff tightly. "This must be where we need to go!"
"I'm not waiting around to find out," Luffy said, his voice steady. Without hesitation, he leaped into the rift, disappearing into the swirling light.
"Luffy!" Robin shouted in alarm, but before anyone could react, the rest of the crew followed suit, leaping into the rift after their captain. They were instantly engulfed by the blinding energy.
When the light finally faded, the crew found themselves standing in an entirely different world. They were no longer in the cavern beneath the island, but in a vast, surreal landscape that seemed to stretch beyond the limits of time itself.
The ground beneath their feet was a glowing, translucent surface, like walking on a river of light. The sky above was a kaleidoscope of swirling stars and shifting colors—no clear horizon, no sun or moon, just an endless expanse. Floating islands hovered in the distance, suspended by invisible forces, and massive, ancient structures rose up like colossal ruins from a forgotten era.
"This place…" Zoro muttered, gazing around with disbelief. "It's like we've stepped into a whole new dimension."
"This… this is the Heart of the island, isn't it?" Robin said, her voice filled with awe and uncertainty. "It's the true realm of time. The space where the past, present, and future converge."
"Yeah, but it's all wrong!" Franky exclaimed, looking around at the distorted landscape. "This is more like some kind of weird dream!"
"Look!" Nami shouted, pointing ahead. There, in the distance, a figure appeared. It was cloaked in flowing robes, its face obscured by an intricate, glowing mask—just like the one they had seen earlier in the cavern.
The figure stood at the center of an enormous, swirling vortex of light and energy, its outstretched hands commanding the forces of the space around them. Time seemed to warp and twist in the wake of its gestures, causing the landscape to flicker and change.
"I knew it…" Robin said softly. "This is the keeper. This is the one controlling the cycle of the Heart."
The figure's head turned slowly toward them, its glowing mask fixing them with an unreadable gaze. It spoke, its voice resonating through the space around them.
"You have come to seek the truth of the Heart," the figure said, its voice like a thousand whispers merging into one. "But what you do not understand is that the Heart is not simply a power to be controlled. It is the soul of this island, the embodiment of the world that once was. And it is my charge to protect it."
"You're the keeper of time, then?" Luffy called out, his usual boldness undeterred. "Well, you've got a funny way of doing it. This island's falling apart, and you want us to just sit back and let it happen?"
The keeper's form shifted in response, the energy around it swirling like a storm. "You do not understand," it said, its tone growing colder. "The Heart was never meant to survive. The world it was born from has long since passed. It was meant to return to the void, to erase itself and all it holds. Your actions have awakened it, but you cannot control its power. The cycle is inevitable."
Luffy clenched his fists. "You can keep talking about cycles and inevitabilities, but I'm not gonna let this island disappear. We've already fought too hard!"
The keeper's mask flickered as it observed Luffy and his crew. "You speak of fate as if it is something that can be defied. The Heart cannot be returned to its slumber, nor can it be reawakened without consequences."
"And we'll deal with the consequences," Sanji added, his voice fierce. "We've fought through worse. We're not about to let everything go to waste."
The keeper's eyes glowed brighter, the light intensifying. "You wish to defy time itself? Then you will need more than just strength. You will need to understand the true nature of the Heart… and face the consequences of its awakening."
The ground beneath their feet trembled again, and the floating islands began to shift. Time seemed to bend and twist around them, and they could feel the pressure of the island's power closing in on them.
"We don't have much time," Robin warned, her face tense. "If we don't find a way to stop this cycle, everything could be lost."
The keeper raised its hands again, and the vortex of light spun faster, its power growing. "Then face the final test—the test of time. Prove you can understand the Heart, and perhaps you will be allowed to choose its fate."
With those final words, the landscape around them began to break apart, shattering like glass. The crew was thrown into darkness.
