One Piece: A Side Story – The Forgotten Isle

Chapter 105: One Piece: A Side Story – The Forgotten Isle (Part 106)

The air in the cavern thickened, vibrating with a low hum that seemed to seep into every corner of their minds. The wraiths, their forms shifting and flickering through time, closed in on the Straw Hat Pirates, their eerie violet eyes fixed on them. The battle had shifted from physical combat to a war against time itself.

Luffy's fists clenched as he readied himself to strike again. "We're gonna need to hit them hard! Let's go, everyone!" He stretched his limbs, his body crackling with the resolve to defeat whatever force was holding them here.

But the wraith leader's voice echoed through the cavern again, its words like a slow, inevitable tide. "You cannot strike at what you cannot touch. Time is my domain. You are but fleeting moments to me."

Zoro's swords clanged together as he prepared for another assault. "I don't care about your time tricks. I've cut through tougher things than ghosts before!"

Franky powered up his cyborg arms. "Super! Time to give 'em a real surprise!"

But the wraiths seemed to anticipate every move, slipping between moments, vanishing just as an attack landed. The cavern itself warped around them—one moment, they were standing on solid ground, and the next, they were floating above a sea of clouds. Every strike seemed futile, every movement slowed, as if time itself were fighting against them.

"We have to disrupt their connection to the Heart!" Robin shouted, her voice filled with urgency. "They're using the Heart to manipulate the flow of time, but that means the Heart must be the key to stopping them!"

Luffy's eyes lit up. "Right! The Heart! I'll take care of that! You guys just keep these wraiths busy!"

The crew nodded, determined to buy Luffy the time he needed. They sprang into action, attacking the wraiths with everything they had.

Sanji's legs flashed as he kicked at one of the wraiths, his attacks cracking the air like thunder. "Diable Jambe!" The fire surged from his legs, momentarily lighting up the dark cavern, but the wraith flickered and vanished just before the kick landed.

"These guys are too fast!" Sanji cursed, landing gracefully on his feet and kicking up a cloud of dust.

"Keep going, Sanji! We're not giving up!" Nami yelled, summoning a massive thunderstorm above the battlefield. Her staff crackled as she unleashed a blast of lightning at the wraiths, but once again, they dispersed into nothingness.

"This is pointless!" Franky growled, launching his own barrage of attacks. His Super Tornado blasts and Rocket Barrage cut through the air with tremendous force, but the wraiths simply reappeared, unfazed by the hits.

Robin quickly realized that while their physical attacks were being avoided, they could still make use of their surroundings. Her arms extended, wrapping around the walls of the cavern, pulling chunks of the terrain toward them. She created a barrier of rocks and debris, forcing the wraiths to slow down.

Zoro, his swords drawn and his expression grim, slashed through the air in a wide arc. "Santoryu—" But his swords met nothing. The wraith he targeted simply phased through him, slipping between the gaps in time.

"Damn it!" Zoro grunted, but he wasn't discouraged. He immediately took up his stance again, ready for the next attack.

Meanwhile, Luffy, the Heart pulsing in his hand, stepped toward the center of the cavern where the obelisk stood. The structure loomed above him, its surface flickering with the same strange energy as the wraiths. The obelisk, now visible in its entirety, was massive, reaching to the very top of the cavern, its surface inscribed with intricate markings. These ancient symbols seemed to glow, shifting as though they were alive.

Luffy's heart pounded in his chest. He could feel the island's pulse aligning with his own. The Heart was connected to the obelisk—connected to everything on the island. Time, memories, and even reality seemed to converge here.

"Alright," Luffy muttered, stepping forward. "Time to fix this."

With a determined smile, he raised his hand, and the Heart's glow intensified. The pulse of energy rippled outward, reaching every corner of the cavern, and Luffy's mind surged with an unexpected clarity. He could feel the threads of time that the wraiths had woven, the very fabric of reality that had been twisted by the Heart's power.

The wraith leader's voice boomed in his mind: "You are too late, boy. The Heart's power cannot be controlled. It is the embodiment of all that has been lost, all that has been forgotten. You cannot change what has already been erased."

Luffy grinned, his voice unwavering. "I don't care about what's been lost. I'll take whatever you throw at me. I'm gonna fix it all."

He clenched his fist around the Heart, and a surge of energy erupted from it, radiating through the cavern. The walls trembled, and for the first time, the wraiths faltered, their forms beginning to fragment as the pulse disrupted their hold over the space.

"Luffy, now!" Robin called, her voice full of determination. "The wraiths are weakening. We have a chance!"

Luffy jumped forward, his body stretching as he aimed directly for the Heart of the obelisk. His fist, charged with the pulse of energy, slammed into the base of the structure. The impact sent a shockwave through the cavern, and the entire obelisk shook violently, cracks spreading through its surface.

Time seemed to stretch, and for a brief moment, everything froze.

Then, the obelisk began to crack apart, the strange symbols breaking away like pieces of shattered glass. The pulse from the Heart surged, breaking through the wraiths' hold on the cavern. The air around them shimmered and distorted, like a reality that was being rewritten. The wraiths screamed in agony, their forms flickering and shuddering as they tried to hold on to their existence, but it was too late.

One by one, the wraiths disintegrated into wisps of light, their voices merging into a final, anguished cry before vanishing completely.

As the last of the wraiths faded away, the cavern went silent.

Luffy landed on the ground with a grin, wiping his brow. "That was tough, but I knew we could do it!"

Robin, her face reflecting a mix of relief and awe, stepped forward. "You really did it, Luffy. You broke the cycle."

The Heart pulsed one last time, then began to settle into a gentle glow, no longer radiating the destructive energy it had before. The cavern was still, the ominous hum now gone.

But as the crew took a moment to catch their breath, the ground beneath them trembled again, the faintest echo of a ticking clock reverberating through the walls.

"Is it over?" Nami asked, her voice cautious.

"I think so," Robin replied, but her expression was thoughtful. "But there's something more. The Heart's power is still tied to this island... and perhaps to more than just time."

Luffy raised his fist with a grin. "Then let's figure it out! Whatever comes next, we're ready!"

And so, as the Heart's pulse slowed, the Straw Hat Pirates readied themselves for the next trial. The forgotten mysteries of the island still awaited, and there was no turning back now.

To be continued…
