Chapter 40: Chapter:40
The sun was shining brightly over Konoha, marking a new beginning for the village. Uchiha Hirito, the newly appointed Hokage, lay sprawled across his bed, snoring loudly. The previous night's celebration had left him in a drunken stupor, with no memory of how much sake he had consumed.
An Early Wake-Up Call
Knock! Knock! Knock!
The door rattled violently, accompanied by hurried knocks.
Manji groaned, reluctantly dragging himself from his sleeping spot. When he opened the door, an elderly woman rushed in, holding a pristine white robe embroidered with the words Sandaime Hokage.
Hirito jolted awake at her voice. This wasn't just any robe—it was crafted by a veteran artisan who had made the Hokage robes for the First and Second Hokage. She had worked tirelessly on this one after Tobirama's passing, and now it was ready.
Hirito hurriedly put on the robe and admired himself in the mirror.
"Manji, how do I look?" Hirito asked with a playful smirk, turning to his feline companion perched nearby.
"Handsome!" Manji responded enthusiastically, his tail flicking.
With a grin, Hirito adjusted his Hokage hat. "Alright, let's go! Time to take the seat of Hokage."
The Hokage Building stood at the heart of Konoha, flanked by towering stone faces of Hashirama and Tobirama Senju. Hirito's visage was already in progress, with Uchiha artisans meticulously carving it into the mountainside—a project overseen personally by Uchiha Tomita.
The plaza below teemed with villagers and shinobi, their eyes alight with anticipation. When Hirito stepped onto the platform, the crowd erupted into cheers.
"From this day forward," Hirito declared, his voice resolute, "I am the Third Hokage of Konoha. The future of our village lies in our hands!"
The Uchiha clan's cheers echoed the loudest, matched by the Hyuga clan's support. The Senju clan, in stark contrast, stood solemnly, clapping only out of decorum.
Notably absent was Uzumaki Mito. Hirito smirked to himself, suspecting her absence was due to lingering embarrassment.
The inaugural meeting as Hokage began that afternoon, with Hirito presiding over the round table. Uchiha Tomita sat to his left, Hirito to his right, and other clan heads arranged according to their influence.
"Today marks a new chapter for Konoha," Hirito began. "Let us discuss how we can rebuild and strengthen our village. Speak freely—this is a time for collaboration."
Hirito wasted no time, pulling out a meticulously prepared ledger.
"Before we discuss rebuilding," Hirito said, his tone sharp, "we must address Konoha's financial debts."
The table fell silent as Hirito laid out a staggering total: the Senju clan alone was owed 1.5 billion ryo for resources and pensions, including compensation for ninja casualties.
"The Senju clan contributed greatly under Tobirama-sama's leadership," Hirito continued. "It's only fair that these debts are repaid."
Hirito's eyes widened as he flipped through the records. The total amount was astronomical, surpassing 11 billion ryo across all clans.
Hyuga Takuma chimed in, adding that the Hyuga were owed 800 million ryo. One by one, other clan heads followed, each presenting their claims.
Hirito's mind raced. This debt was a monstrous burden—paying it off would take years of dangerous missions, even for a shinobi of his caliber.
"I understand," Hirito finally said, his voice calm but his jaw tight. "I will take responsibility for these accounts."
Hirito nodded, his expression unreadable. The meeting adjourned, but Hirito's frustration simmered beneath the surface.
Back in the Hokage office, Hirito slumped into his chair, overwhelmed.
"How am I supposed to pay this off?" he muttered, rubbing his temples.
Uchiha Tomita, ever the strategist, offered a solution. "Don't forget, Hokage-sama, the Daimyo of the Land of Fire promised financial support to rebuild Konoha."
Hirito sat up, energized by the reminder. "Of course! That's the answer!"
He slammed his hands on the desk, determination returning to his eyes. "We must meet with the Daimyo immediately."
