Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Reliable Sakura, Yagyu Watching the Show
The Land of Waves is a small island surrounded by the sea, a country without any ninja presence.
Before the Naruto Bridge was constructed, the people of this country could only travel to the mainland by boat. This was precisely why Tazuna wanted to build a bridge to connect the Land of Waves to the ninja continent and revitalize the island's economy.
Located at the easternmost edge of the Land of Fire, the Land of Waves is separated from the mainland by just one sea bridge.
Unlike the mountainous paths leading to the Land of Rivers, Team 7 only needed to traverse forest trails to reach the coastline and then take a boat to the island—an easy route to their destination.
As they journeyed, Team 7 eventually grew bored of the scenery and began chatting.
During their conversations, Kakashi and Sakura took the opportunity to educate Naruto, who was otherwise clueless about basic knowledge.
At the very least, they helped him understand the geopolitical structure of the ninja world, the "one nation, one village" system, and the influence of the Five Kage.
Otherwise, Naruto—constantly declaring his ambition to become Hokage—might still think that being Hokage was no more than being a village chief.
Sakura, dressed in a red cheongsam with waist-length pink hair and an elegant, refined demeanor, occasionally cast perception jutsu to monitor the surroundings—similar to how Hinata acted.
Seeing the calm yet reliable Sakura, Kakashi's eyes revealed a trace of satisfaction.
Although Sakura lacked offensive techniques, her mastery of perception and medical ninjutsu compensated for the team's deficiencies.
Moreover, she seemed to have a crush on someone outside the team, which made her impartial within the group. Her fair and just demeanor often helped resolve conflicts between Naruto and Sasuke.
This girl... she reminds me of Rin.
Thinking about the girl he had killed with his own hands, Kakashi's eyes darkened momentarily.
Yagyu, observing Sakura's cautiousness from a distance, also felt a sense of satisfaction.
These are the results of my training!
As a transmigrator with narrative awareness superior to everyone else, Yagyu had been extremely cautious since childhood. This attitude also influenced the three girls who grew up with him—Ino, Hinata, and Sakura.
During their training, Yagyu often honed their perception abilities. Over time, this behavior of constantly monitoring their surroundings became second nature for them. Both Hinata and Sakura exceeded his expectations, developing skills far superior to their original selves.
Yet, despite her vigilance, Sakura failed to notice Yagyu following them. Even Kakashi, an elite jonin, didn't sense the shadow trailing them about 100 meters behind.
To test the illusion capabilities of his "Red Eyes," Yagyu periodically moved closer to Team 7, observing whether they could detect him.
As one of the nemeses of the Three Great Dojutsu, the Red Eyes didn't disappoint Yagyu. Its illusion capabilities, which neither farsight nor x-ray vision could penetrate, rendered him virtually undetectable through ordinary sensory techniques.
However, mindful of his Sharingan's ability to perceive the red powder produced by Red Eyes, Yagyu refrained from getting too close. If Kakashi were to lift his forehead protector and activate his three-tomoe Sharingan, there was a chance he might notice the red powder.
Thus, Yagyu continued tailing Team 7, inching closer as they traveled.
The Next Morning
Team 7 was nearing the eastern coastline. Just beyond a forest trail lay the ocean and the Land of Waves.
Suddenly, a conspicuous puddle appeared on the path ahead.
Looking at the clear blue sky above, Yagyu sighed in exasperation.
Seriously? This close to the sea, and you're trying such a brainless trick?
The Land of Fire and the Land of Waves were not far apart. There hadn't been rain in days, yet these assailants thought this large puddle would go unnoticed. It was practically a signpost announcing, "We're hiding here!"
At that moment, Yagyu realized the importance of proper education. Even a chunin could lose to a genin without a functioning brain.
Sure enough...
Both Sasuke and Sakura noticed the puddle, their eyes narrowing. Sakura made a hand signal, and after receiving Sasuke's nod, she visibly relaxed.
However, when she glanced at Naruto, who was humming a tune beside her, she felt a wave of exasperation.
What is with this guy? He knows a forbidden jutsu like Multi-Shadow Clone and has chakra reserves far beyond mine, yet he has zero situational awareness!
Fortunately, Sasuke—arguably the only one in their class capable of holding his own against Yagyu—was on her team. Otherwise, Sakura would've lost her patience long ago.
Hinata must be having the time of her life working with Yagyu, she thought enviously.
As in the original story, the Demon Brothers sprang from the puddle as Team 7 passed by. Using a chain, they captured and seemingly dismembered Kakashi, who had somehow ended up at the rear of the group.
Naruto froze in shock.
Sakura, holding a kunai in one hand and several beads in the other, stepped in front of Tazuna protectively. Meanwhile, Sasuke sprang into action, swiftly knocking the Demon Brothers to the ground with precise movements.
Before Naruto could even react, Sasuke had already subdued the attackers.
At that moment, Kakashi—who had been "dismembered"—reappeared, unscathed, before the team.
After interrogating the Demon Brothers and guilt-tripping Naruto with a sharp rebuke, Kakashi watched as Naruto, using a kunai, cut his own hand to swear an oath. This marked a turning point for the self-proclaimed "dead last."
Under Tazuna's morally manipulative pleas, Team 7 ultimately decided to complete their mission and escort him home.
Reaching the coastline, they found Tazuna's companion waiting for them.
Team 7 boarded a small boat to cross to the Land of Waves, while Yagyu walked across the water behind them.
In the Land of Waves
That morning, a dense fog enveloped the area. For Tazuna, this was a blessing, as it allowed him to evade the patrolling ronin and safely escort Team 7 to his home.
However, unbeknownst to him, a powerful jonin had already positioned himself ahead, waiting for them.
When a massive cleaver spun like a giant shuriken, flying just over the crouching heads of Team 7, the battle with the rogue Mist ninja Zabuza Momochi began in earnest.
Unlike Raiga Kurosuki, who had someone to protect, Zabuza had no such burden and could fight at full strength. Kakashi, however, found himself in Raiga's position, needing to protect both Team 7 and Tazuna, which significantly hindered his capabilities.
Yagyu, meanwhile, wasn't focused on the jonin clash. His glowing red eyes, barely concealed by cosmetic lenses, were fixed on a particular tree.
Perched on the branches was a masked youth from the Mist Anbu.
That boy, Yagyu's true target, was none other than Haku.
Satisfied with locating Haku, Yagyu decided not to make a move just yet. The timing wasn't right. Instead, he turned his attention back to the battle between the jonin.
As in the original story, Kakashi—possibly rusty from a lack of high-intensity combat—was momentarily trapped by Zabuza's Water Prison Jutsu, leaving him unable to fight. Zabuza's real body was forced to remain stationary, maintaining the jutsu, while a water clone moved toward Team 7 and Tazuna.
Unexpectedly, Sasuke and a newly determined Naruto displayed remarkable teamwork, bypassing the water clone and forcing Zabuza to evade, thereby breaking the Water Prison Jutsu.
Freed from his restraints, Kakashi went all out, showing Zabuza the might of the "Copy Ninja" from Konoha.
In the end, Kakashi's faster hand seals enabled him to use Water Release: Great Waterfall Technique, overwhelming Zabuza.
Just as Kakashi prepared to deliver the finishing blow, several needles shot through the air.
Thunk, thunk, thunk!
The senbon pierced Zabuza's neck, and a masked figure—the Anbu youth—appeared before Team 7.
With Kakashi's permission, the youth retrieved Zabuza's "corpse."
Seeing his opportunity, Yagyu immediately followed.
