Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Alice's Normalized State
Luo Sheng felt that his mental power had grown significantly, more than double what it was before.
Previously, during the 'Clinic Defense Battle' in the card world, it consumed half of his mental power.
For him, now that he had just been promoted, it would only take up one-fifth. As a Bronze Four-Star, his mental capacity easily outclassed his previous three-star level. He could now handle the clinic defense battle 4.5 times.
At the same time, another of his cards had also improved.
[ [E-Type Jack Mecha]
Rank: Bronze Seven-Star
Type: Equipment
Skills:
Ultra-Micro Nuclear Power: A nuclear fission energy device that provides nearly infinite kinetic energy for the mecha.
Miniature Mecha: Reduced in size without compromising its defense, it now better fits the human form.
Winged Long Sword: A portable weapon with near-diamond hardness, a perfect war instrument.
Infrared Detection: Has super-vision in the dark or fog, making it impossible for enemies to hide.
Miniature Thrusters: A small Hall-effect thruster that increases the mecha's mobility by 10% while reducing size.
Target Tracking: Uses smart algorithms to track enemy targets, improving attack accuracy.
Overview: A mecha that Jack Doctor deemed worthless, yet continuously improved.]
This mecha card evolved alongside Alice's world. After its upgrade, it provided mysterious energy to Luo Sheng, but no additional effects.
"It seems this card has a limit. After so many improvements, it only went up by one star," Luo Sheng mused as he rested his chin on his hand.
Unless a card undergoes a qualitative change, its improvement wouldn't be high. To strengthen the card, a good opportunity was required.
For example, Alice obtained a new biomechanical body, and Acoley received the Evergreen Vine Wand.
As for the mecha card, Jack Doctor could have had new materials to modify, but since the clinic was destroyed, all the materials were lost.
"It seems I'll have to find some material cards for the mecha and hand them to Jack Doctor," he concluded.
Next, he picked up [Bio-Mechanical Princess - Alice] again.
Using a detection glove, he noticed that Alice's card had a compatibility of 86, the highest among all his cards.
Luo Sheng focused, and the card glowed. In an instant, Alice, a young girl, appeared before him.
Her white silky hair draped over her shoulders, and her long, pale legs were graceful. Her pink lips were tantalizing, and her big, watery eyes locked onto him with affection, like a girl in the throes of love.
"Luo Sheng~"
Luo Sheng was stunned. "Huh?"
"You can talk now?" he asked reflexively.
"Talk? I've always been able to talk. Why would you ask that?" Alice tilted her head, her large eyes filled with confusion.
Luo Sheng paused. She made a good point.
He tentatively asked, "Do you know where we are?"
"Isn't this your room?" Alice asked, puzzled.
"And the world we're in?"
"A strange summoning world."
"Huh?"
Luo Sheng was even more confused. He had never told her about his secret regarding the card world, so how did she know? And her answer was so smooth, with no sign of doubt about this world. It didn't add up.
After some more conversation, Luo Sheng learned that Alice's ability to speak and communicate was a result of the conflicting and compromising laws between the card world and the real world.
Alice had a certain level of awareness of the real world, such as cards, phones, and the internet, and she quickly adapted to it. This awareness was given to her by Luo Sheng during the summoning, and she simply accepted it as natural.
She never questioned her existence as a card or the state of the card world. When Luo Sheng asked her about what happened in the card world, she could only recall the events she experienced with him, and when asked about other things, she was confused. It was likely the rules of the world caused this issue.
She was both Alice in this world and Alice in the card world. They shared the same thoughts but lived different lives.
This was truly baffling!
Especially because Luo Sheng realized that the mental energy he used to summon Alice had decreased instead of increased with her upgraded rank. As things stood, he could keep her summoned for about seven to eight days without battle.
He speculated that this was due to the compatibility exceeding 85%. The higher the compatibility, the less mental energy the card required, unlocking additional abilities.
"Luo Sheng, what are you thinking about?" Alice asked, watching him blankly.
"I was just wondering if you needed new clothes?" Luo Sheng replied nonchalantly.
Alice looked at her form-fitting, high-tech suit. While it was perfectly tailored to her figure, showcasing her slender frame, and provided strong defense, it was somewhat tight, though she hadn't noticed it before.
"Do you have clothes?" she asked.
"Uh..."
Luo Sheng froze. He was a guy—how could he have clothes for a girl? He wasn't into crossdressing.
But it wasn't a big deal. Luo Sheng quickly opened his phone and checked the shopping mall.
He wasn't sure if the mall could see into his mind, but it immediately displayed "Confident Women's Clothing" on the search bar. Luo Sheng subconsciously clicked on it.
"This kind of clothing is so embarrassing, but if you want to see it, I don't mind," Alice said as she leaned in to browse the mall with him.
Her face showed no expression, as if discussing something trivial.
"Ahem, that was a slip of the finger. Pick whatever you want," Luo Sheng said, feeling awkward, especially since a girl was in his room—albeit a card girl. The scent of her was making him nervous, and he couldn't help but feel embarrassed.
Besides, it was the first time a girl had appeared in his room, and though Alice was from a card, it still made him uneasy. His genes had stirred.
He couldn't push the card too hard; any mishap could lower their compatibility or cause resistance. That would make the card worthless.
He recalled the incident with the "Card Star" who had been severely injured due to a slip-up, and he heard they hadn't been discharged yet.
With a sigh, he focused his attention back on strengthening his cards.
After all, he had promised Zhao Haifeng that he would repair his card. Tomorrow was the day of the duel, so it was a perfect opportunity to complete the task.
Zhao Haifeng had a card in need of repair: [Goblin Slayer].
Though it was a Bronze Seven-Star card, its actual power was only about one star.
The card's history flooded into his mind. The Goblin Slayer had accepted a reluctant request from the Church's Saintess to eliminate goblins in the sewers. He succeeded, but during the mission, a Goblin Hero appeared, throwing them into a desperate battle. Just as they were about to be overwhelmed, Goblin Slayer's willpower triumphed, but he was severely wounded. The Saintess, helpless, could only watch as the Goblin Slayer's condition deteriorated.
This card could be enhanced with the following options:
[First Moon Priestess is needed, who will use the church's sacred magic to offer a First Moon sacrifice and fully revive him.
If you have enough cards, perhaps a miracle can occur.]
This was easy for Luo Sheng. He quickly ordered a Bronze Three-Star Card: First Moon Priestess.
The two cards merged, and Goblin Slayer was restored to full health, with its quality rising by one level to become a Rare card.
Luo Sheng silently stored the process of the card evolution in his mind.
