Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Nasdaq Group's Capture Operation
"Rather than letting this bio-body fall into the hands of the Nasdaq Group, it's better to give it to Alice. After the final surgery, we can leave." Dr. Jack looked at Alice, whose body was in a damaged state, and said to Luo Sheng.
"Where to?" Luo Sheng asked, confused.
"The Rebels' organization," Dr. Jack replied, then moved Alice onto the surgical bed, preparing for the operation.
"Are we in that much of a hurry?"
"We don't have time. You need to guard the door."
With that, Dr. Jack pressed a button on the clinic's security system, causing the metal gate to immediately lower, and red warning lights flashed. Several computers inside activated their auto-destruct programs.
Luo Sheng stared in confusion.
"What is Dr. Jack doing...?"
Dr. Jack was straightforward, saying, "I'm a member of the Rebels' organization. But now, because of you, we've been exposed."
Luo Sheng wanted to apologize, but Dr. Jack was already pushing Alice into the operating room to implant the super bio-body.
Luo Sheng also learned about the Rebels' organization.
It was a group of civilians resisting the Sky City, which had ceased to be a symbol of human glory and had instead become a playground for the wealthy and powerful. They controlled the upper levels of the Alliance through massive wealth and built a static world that benefited only the elite.
This group established violent institutions, controlled world resources, and shut down any upward mobility, draining the common people through addiction and entertainment to weaken their will to resist. This led to the construction of a power pyramid, with the elites at the top, controlling everything and enjoying it.
The people at the bottom were their slaves and laborers, forced to work for them for generations.
This was the dystopian, post-collapse world of power and order—wasteland punk.
The Rebels' organization was formed to overthrow the group and alliance, creating a world of equality for all, where children are educated, workers are paid, the sick are treated, and the elderly cared for. It was a vision of a world where everyone had a fair shot at life.
Dr. Jack came from this organization, working undercover in Detroit to gather intelligence on Sky City and the weaknesses of the Nasdaq Group.
Now that Luo Sheng and Alice were wanted, it was only a matter of time before they were captured.
An hour later.
A deafening roar came from outside the clinic.
A Black Hawk cruiser, using a shaftless ion propulsion system (similar to the "Valkyrie" helicopters in Avatar), hovered outside the clinic, blinding searchlights shining down like the midday sun, making the night disappear instantly.
A loudspeaker blared, "You are surrounded. Come out and surrender. Drop your weapons and you will not be killed!"
Despite the words, the Gatling machine guns were already aimed at the clinic, making it clear they had no intention of negotiating.
The cruiser doors opened, and a large group of black-clad security guards descended, armed with heavy machine guns. They surrounded the clinic in an instant.
The leader of the black-clad guards whispered into his radio, "Kill them all, whether they surrender or not."
Then, the guards used explosives to destroy the clinic's metal windows, followed by throwing in metal spheres. A second later, a loud explosion rang out, equivalent to C4. Fortunately, the clinic's metal framework held, minimizing the damage.
Around the clinic, civilians panicked and fled the area.
The guards, seeing no movement inside, rushed in for a perfect decapitation strike.
But suddenly...
"Ahhh!!!"
The screams echoed from inside as the gunfire broke out, though it stopped after just two seconds.
Then, a large cloud of black smoke billowed out from the breach in the clinic, covering the entire street.
"Activate infrared vision," the leader ordered, and the guards quickly switched on their goggles, revealing glowing blue eyes through the fog.
But what they saw shocked them. In their infrared vision, the black smoke seemed to be spreading into an icy world, with frost quickly covering their feet.
"Damn, why is there ice here?" one guard cursed as he lifted his boot.
Then, a figure emerged from beneath the ice, with a golden cold gleam, and the guard's head was separated from his body.
The others opened fire, but the figure immediately disappeared into the ice, making it impossible to kill.
"Ah!!! A ghost!!!"
In no time, the clinic was filled with screams, and within ten seconds, the black-clad guards who surrounded the clinic were nearly all dead.
Meanwhile, the Black Hawk cruiser above the clinic opened fire with its Gatling guns, pouring red-hot fire onto the clinic. The metal doors of the clinic were riddled with holes in an instant.
However, from the black smoke, bright red flames erupted as fireballs rained down onto the cruiser. The pilot, pale-faced, desperately tried to flee, but the cruiser was far less agile than the fireballs.
"No!!!"
The pilot's scream echoed as the cruiser erupted into flames, lighting up the night sky like a massive fireball. The explosion was visible even from Sky City above.
The entire Black Hawk squad that had surrounded the clinic was wiped out in under five minutes.
As the black smoke and ice dissipated, the ground was covered with flickering flames, scattered bodies, and a destroyed Black Hawk cruiser burning nearby.
When Dr. Jack emerged, he saw his clinic in ruins and stood still for a moment.
Luo Sheng, however, was sitting in the lobby, unharmed, lost in thought.
What kind of monster had just wiped out the Nasdaq Group's guards? They were the Group's loyal dogs, armed with heavy weaponry.
When Dr. Jack saw him, Luo Sheng stood and asked, "How did the surgery go?"
"Perfect. She might have been born for this bio-body," Dr. Jack replied.
As soon as Dr. Jack finished speaking, Alice slowly walked out of the operating room.
At that moment, she looked more human than ever, no longer a bare mechanical body. Her form was flawless, and it was impossible to tell where the bio-body connected to her real body. She looked like she had been born with this body.
Her body was slim with a perfect silhouette, long legs, and proportions that seemed almost unreal. She looked extraordinarily beautiful, though there were small pulse energy devices visible on her spine and palms.
"How do I look?" Alice asked.
"Ahem... Perfect."
Luo Sheng cleared his throat, naturally mesmerized by her appearance.
Alice smiled slightly but then said, "I feel like this body is a bit strange."
Dr. Jack, stroking his prickly beard, explained, "You need to adapt to your new body and form a strong neural connection with it. This is just the beginning. The neural connection will take time, and for now, you can only control 3% of its capabilities."
"No wonder," Alice said as she raised her hand, noticing that her fingers felt stiff.
At that moment, the sound of more cruisers was heard outside.
Dr. Jack put on his hat and said, "We need to leave through the tunnel."
"Okay." Luo Sheng nodded.
After the previous battle, half of his mental energy was exhausted, and another fight would be too much to handle.
The three of them escaped into the underground tunnels, but since Alice had just undergone the body modification, her limbs were still uncoordinated, so Luo Sheng carried her as they fled.
It was then that Luo Sheng realized how terrifying the bio-body was.
No matter how much Alice was scratched, her wounds healed within ten seconds, and her skin restored to perfect smoothness, completely defying what was previously known about the human body.
They eventually arrived at an abandoned iron house on the outskirts of the city.
After Dr. Jack revealed his identity, they were quickly picked up by the Rebels' organization in Detroit. They got into a powerful off-road vehicle and set off in one direction.
Meanwhile, nearby, a commander, smoking a cigarette and stepping over scrap metal, cursed, "Damn, they escaped!"
A soldier ran up and reported, "We've spotted a vehicle leaving Detroit quickly!"
"It must be them. Stop the pursuit. Let those old men in the Group worry about it. The area outside the city is not under our control," the commander said, throwing his cigarette to the ground.
