Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Ghost Concubine - Bai Moxue
[[Bull-Head Warden]
Rank: Bronze Three-Star
Type: Nether Ghost
Skills:
Underworld Emissary: Effective against Nether Ghosts, reducing their attributes by 15%.
Soul-Locking Hook: Throws a scythe-like hook that deals massive damage to physical and intangible targets. Can also bind them, with enhanced effects on Nether Ghosts.
Demon-Suppressing Staff: A signature weapon with area damage in melee combat.
Bull Roar: Emits an angry roar to intimidate and attract enemy targets.
Overview: The joyful messenger of the underworld: "Your time is up. Come to purgatory with me!" ]
The card depicts a humanoid creature with a bull's head clad in armor, holding a Demon-Suppressing Staff against a dark, gloomy backdrop.
This was Luo Sheng's first card obtained from combat in an extra dimensional battle. His face lit up with delight as he carefully observed the card.
"I never expected the extra dimensional worlds to include such a realm of deities and ghosts. This must be a card world based on mythology!"
Having never seen any information about this world's system in the card master textbooks, Luo Sheng deduced this must be a new extra dimensional invasion event. If he were to strengthen the card and enter its world, it would be akin to stepping into the underworld itself.
Luo Sheng frowned deeply, his expression resembling that of a wise old man. "Forget it. I'll sell it when I return. My lifespan is long enough; there's no need to visit the underworld in this life. But speaking of which, aren't the Bull-Headed Warden and Horse-Faced Guard supposed to work together?"
He vaguely suspected the Horse-Faced Guard might be lurking elsewhere.
And sure enough, as he turned the corner into the next street, he encountered the Bull-Headed Warden's partner—the Horse-Faced Guard, wielding a spear. The two engaged in a fierce battle.
Fortunately, these Nether Ghosts were highly susceptible to fire. The fight lasted less than 30 seconds before Luo Sheng emerged victorious, obtaining another Bronze Three-Star card: [Horse-Faced Guard].
Luo Sheng planned to sell both cards and acquire better ones. However, during the battle, he noticed a problem: Alice's weaponry was limited to her fists. He equipped her with his folding knife to improve her combat effectiveness.
In the next street, Luo Sheng's spirit jade pulsed more intensely. By the roadside lay the body of a card master.
As he approached, he found the person had already passed away, blood streaming from their mouth and a caved-in abdomen from a violent impact. Their card box was destroyed.
Searching the iron box, Luo Sheng discovered only one intact recovery card:
[ [Mental Recovery]
Rank: Bronze Four-Star
Type: Magic
Effect: Instantly restores a fixed amount of mental energy.
Overview: You can keep fighting! ]
The other cards were too damaged to repair or use.
"This world is indeed cruel. People can die at any moment," Luo Sheng murmured, suppressing his nausea as he silently mourned for the card master.
He placed [Mental Recovery] in his card box. Though it belonged to the deceased, having an extra card meant greater strength. Particularly for mental recovery cards, which could instantly restore one-fifth of his mental energy—a crucial lifeline in emergencies. Mental energy was the medium for sustaining cards, akin to mana in games.
As he prepared to leave:
"Ahhh!!! A ghost!"
A familiar scream pierced the air. Luo Sheng recognized the voice: it was Miss Wang Keai's. The sound came from a sealed house with locked doors and windows, accompanied by frantic cries and crashing noises.
Luo Sheng instinctively rushed forward but found the doors and windows firmly shut. He immediately used [Unlock], and within seconds, all barriers opened with a crisp click.
Entering with Acoley, Luo Sheng found Wang Keai cowering in a corner, her face pale with terror.
Opposite her stood a girl in a red bridal gown, half her body protruding from a mirror. Her face was ashen, her long black hair flowing, and her expression filled with disbelief as she stared at Luo Sheng.
The ghostly bride had ensured all entrances were welded shut, yet they had been breached.
"Damn, it's Sadako!" Luo Sheng exclaimed, his scalp tingling with fear as his spirit jade issued frantic warnings.
The ghost bride exuded a far more menacing aura than the Bull-Headed Warden and Horse-Faced Guard.
"Acoley, Fireball!" Luo Sheng shouted.
Beside him, Acoley, who had been preparing her spell, launched a fireball that illuminated the dark room and hurtled toward the ghost bride's face.
"Heh..." The ghost bride smirked disdainfully, vanishing into the mirror in an instant.
The fireball shattered the mirror, but the ghost bride remained unharmed. In the fragments of the broken mirror, she laughed mockingly at Luo Sheng, as though toying with her new favorite plaything.
Moments later, red silk threads shot out from the shards, binding Alice and Acoley, rendering them immobile. The ghost bride seized the opportunity, leaping out of the darkness with golden scissors aimed directly at Luo Sheng.
Sparks flew as the scissors clashed with Luo Sheng's mech, leaving dents but failing to penetrate. She retreated to the chandelier, dangling her pale feet as she stared at him with predatory intent.
Luo Sheng felt like prey on the African savanna, stalked by a lion waiting for the perfect moment to strike. His mental state deteriorated rapidly, fear gnawing at him like a curse.
"Heh heh heh..." The ghost bride giggled, her excitement growing as though she had found her perfect toy.
"Let's end this in one move!" Luo Sheng gritted his teeth, forcing down his fear.
"Heh... fine," the ghost bride replied, her bloodless face blossoming into a sinister smile.
She attacked again, her red silk threads weaving into a human-shaped cross that suspended Luo Sheng in midair. Just as she thought she had won:
"Got you!" Luo Sheng smirked.
The ghost bride's expression turned to shock as an iron chain shot out, binding her instantly. She struggled but couldn't break free. The Bull-Headed Warden roared, disorienting her, while the Horse-Faced Guard impaled her with his spear.
She let out a piercing scream before dissolving into a bronze five-star card that fell to the ground.
