Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 9: Chapter 9 Discussing or Competing? _1

However, ordinary people can also hone themselves to reach this elevation or even higher through continuous self-refinement. After all, New Humans, those seemingly prematurely favored by God, do not necessarily epitomize perfection—Quite the contrary, there is no such thing as perfection in this world. They might be incredibly close to perfection, frequently leading to inflated hubris, oblivious to the fact that those who have stumbled and struggled all the way are already at the same starting line with them. New Humans overlooked one key point; it is through ordeal and experience that one truly matures, and the accumulation of experience is exceedingly crucial.

Those like Feng Yi, who perseveres against the odds, are after all a minority. The whole of Colony 103 could not find another lunatic like him, who runs out of the gravity field every day. What were there, just a bunch of flowers in a greenhouse. What truly intrigued Feng Yi was this New Human girl named Emily; what sort of unique ability did she possess?

Having been here for a day, he had heard the boys discussing rumors about Emily. It seemed that this Emily was the real expert hidden in the ancient martial arts hall. At least, Feng Yi would not be fooled by Emily's delicate mannerisms. He was eager to encounter these rumored special abilities.

This lad smartly secured a spot to sit down quickly. As he busied himself scavenging food, he had no mind to pay attention to his surroundings.

Shortly after, the quiet atmosphere was replaced by eerie silence. Only the sparse clattering of Sir Feng's chopsticks was audible within the immediate vicinity... Occasionally, everyone would cast an unintentional glance at Feng Yi as they dined.

"Milly, that's your cutlery, isn't it?" Sheng Qiangwei quickly fixed her sharp gaze on Feng Yi.

Milly seemed a bit lost: "Uh, it does look like my cutlery. How did he get it?"

Sheng Qiangwei's eyebrows furrowed, it is true that looks can be deceiving. Surprisingly, this handsome New Human turned out to be so vulgar, she scoffed, "Who cares, watch me teach him a lesson."

"Let it go Qiangwei, it's too embarrassing with so many people around. Also…"

"Don't worry, I won't mention the lunchbox at all."

Sheng Qiangwei grabbed Emily's arm and convinced her grudgingly into accompanying her towards Feng Yi's spot.

Feng Yi's carnivorous appetite was indeed enormous. His consumption of one bowl, two bowls... Could his strength be far beyond understanding? It is well known that the body's calorie requirements are closely related to daily physical expenditure. It's not unprecedented for someone who has reached a certain level to have a large appetite, which is somewhat related to digestive capacity.

Startled men and women incredulously watched, whispers began emerging from amongst the female students who were lightly covering their lips, while the male students displayed a sense of admiration. Suddenly, a loud clatter was heard in the center of the hall. A passerby, who was covertly observing the two beauties crossing the room, accidentally dumped his hot meal onto another person.

Sheng Qiangwei curiously observed Feng Yi, "Tsk, tsk, my friend, aren't you afraid of indigestion if you eat so much?" Unusually for the aloof Sheng Qiangwei, she joked. While she was sipping her milk tea, her other hand was propping up her chin as she watched Feng Yi with great interest. A faint trace of a smile lingered around the corners of her mouth, implying that all deception was futile under her scrutinizing gaze.

This jest was somewhat inflammable to the crowd. Suddenly, everyone's eyes turned, searing attention locked onto Sheng Qiangwei. Despite Sheng Qiangwei being the goddess, as men, they couldn't tolerate such words.

Everything happened as the crowd expected. Feng Yi suddenly halted his actions, but after fifteen seconds he let out a satisfied burp and continued eating his dinner, completely ignoring the tease from the girl.

Only silence answered Sheng Qiangwei. In fact, this silent treatment was more dreadful.

Sheng Qiangwei was taken aback for a moment. She, being the center of attention, was ignored? Her smile gradually faded and was replaced with astonishment. "Bro, are you mute?" she queried.

Obviously, Feng Yi was not a mute, and thus Sheng Qiangwei was ignored once again.

Feeling the accumulated gazes and the chilling atmosphere, the dominant Sheng Qiangwei found it difficult to suppress her anger. Hesitating for a moment, she peevishly said, "Hey, you are really ungrateful, looking for a fight, huh? At least respond." However, she realized that she had been performing a one-man-show all along.

Actually, Feng Yi's thought was quite simple. If the other party was here to order a to-go meal, he would apologize sincerely. But since that wasn't the case, he really didn't want to have pointless conversation. Being a decent person, he chose to simply reply, not wanting to embarrass the snake girl further.

"Ah, I heard you, bro."

But, what the heck kind of reply was that? The words, "I heard you, bro" seemed to dismiss her as if she were invisible, as though it was a mature older brother dealing with a cheeky little sister. It felt like a passing breeziness.

What a blow, Sheng Qiangwei's face turned pale, down to her neck... Since when had such a bright, attention-drawing person been treated like this? She bit her cherry-red lips, not uttering a word, her thoughts buzzing and her chest tumultuously rising and falling.

"Let's not stoop to his level," Emily suggested, gently pulling Sheng Qiangwei back and secretly signaling to Feng Yi, "let's go, Wei Wei."

Feng Yi gleaned the message and prepared to make his exit after filling his belly.

Originally, Sheng Qiangwei wanted to chastise him a little, but Emily's words only fueled her discontent, and she retorted, "Little punk, as a disciple of the Martial Arts Hall, would you dare to spar with me?"

Spar? Feng Yi paused in his tracks, "Why would you want to challenge me?"

"No reason."

Instantly, all eyes in the restaurant turned to them. Emily regretted not simply stating her intention outright.

Feng Yi twisted his head to look at Sheng Qiangwei, with a strange, meaningful gaze. He was only a temporary resident here and didn't want to cause trouble for the old ghost. He didn't understand why she was making things hard for a newbie like him. He shrugged, "Sorry, I'm not really interested."

"Feng Yi, actually..."

Emily was immediately cut off by Sheng Qiangwei, "But I am interested! Sparring is a part of Martial Arts Hall. Aren't you a man? Are you afraid of me?" Sheng Qiangwei cocked a triumphant grin, "I can fight you one-handed, if you can last ten seconds without falling, I admit defeat."

"Forget it, I'm afraid I might accidentally hurt you." And with that, Feng Yi nonchalantly walked out of the restaurant.

Where is this man's honor? If he can't do it, then he can't do it. There's no need for such shameless words. The restaurant erupted into murmurs... This whole affair was started by Sheng Qiangwei. But after hearing his words, the men who originally sided with Feng Yi questioned his character.

Sheng Qiangwei's abilities were well-known. As a black-haired beauty, her skills were unmatched in the Martial Arts Hall. She came every weekend to practice for the Wind Thunder Ancient Martial Arts Military Academy examination, she was consistently diligent. Feng Yi being afraid to hurt such a dedicated girl was clearly a joke taken too far.

Whether it was out of flattery or dissatisfaction, before Feng Yi could exit the restaurant, he was stopped by several of Sheng Qiangwei's admirers. One of them said, "Stop, bro. How will you know if you don't try?"

This guy was talking too big. Sheng Qiangwei was recognized as one of the best in the Martial Arts Hall. By denying her, wasn't he denying everyone present? No one here was a pushover.

Standing tall, Sheng Qiangwei straightened her glossy hair and stepped forward, "Little punk, it's fine to refuse if you're unsure, but don't boast too much." She spoke with a touch of pride in her words.

Used to hearing loud military calls and seeing smoky battlefields, Feng Yi felt shabby at the idea of sparring with a delicate flower. With a cool tilt of his head, he looked into Sheng Qiangwei's eyes with a deep meaning, "Are you sure you want to spar with me?"
