Chapter 11: Joining a party(2)
"That's great. My parents and I plan to continue hunting as well. We just recently discovered how to level up in this game, and the feeling of getting stronger is amazing! How about you join us? So far, our group has a guardian, an assassin, and me as a healer."
'So that's why they healed me.' Julius finally understood why that family had healed him out of the blue. 'I don't mind, since this is even better than owing them a favor.'
What Julius understood from the last battle was that he was much more developed than the other players. He was the only one there who was able to face two enraged enemies at the same time, and at that moment he was even slightly stronger than he was at the beginning of the fight, since he gained points every time he defeated someone, including humans.
'Wait, do I really get stronger by defeating a human, or did I only gain points for defeating enraged humans?
[You received +1 point in all primary attributes, you received 0.5 points in all secondary attributes, you received 0.3 points in all tertiary attributes for defeating a human under the effect of a demon]
[You received +1 point in all primary attributes, you received 0.5 points in all secondary attributes, you received 0.3 points in all tertiary attributes for defeating a human under the effect of a demon]
'The notification screens say I gained points for defeating a human under a demonic effect. Maybe I don't get any for defeating a normal human?'
Julius realized that there was no point in thinking about it, as he would only get the answer if he actually killed a human under no demonic effect. Something he didn't want to do, even in a game.
This was simply because the game was very realistic. He still remembered the feeling and the pain he felt fighting those two enraged humans.
'I'm not ready to do that to a normal human.' Julius thought he could only really fight a normal human if he was attacked first.
Something he also didn't want to happen.
Deciding he wouldn´t think more about it for now, Julius replied to the family.
"I have no problem hunting with you all, but I don't intend to hunt on the plains. With my current strength I think it would be better for me to enter the forest already."
"That's exactly what we intended, young man. Don't think we're weak just because we can't handle enraged humans so easily." The father of the family replied, making it clear that he and the two women would not be a hindrance to Julius.
"That's good" Julius just nodded to the middle-aged man, he sat on a bench that was nearby to recover MANA, since he had spent it all in the battle.
But it wasn't just him recovering at the moment, the family members were too.
At the same time, the sword on Julius's back was also absorbing [Universal Energy] and storing it as a star.
"Actually, the only possible hunting place nearby is the forest." The mother of the family caught the attention of all the group members with those words.
Seeing everyone's attention on her, she continued.
"The number of rabbits was infinitely smaller as night approached. It seems that the creature spawn system in this game works differently, it was practically impossible to find any other rabbits at the end of the day."
"It's just a theory, but I don't think we'll even find any rabbits, even if we look."
Julius and no other member of the group had thought about that. In fact, except for the woman there, no one else in the village had noticed.
'If that's true, then things got even more complicated!' Julius couldn't help but be surprised once again by the difficulty of that game!
'They're forcing all players to play on the hardest difficulty, damn developers!'
'Wait, it's not quite like that.' Julius couldn't help but contradict his own thoughts, as he realized that the initial gifts a player received when starting the game also 'chose' what the difficulty of the game would be for the player.
Again, that made no sense.
'What is this game after all!?' Julius couldn't help but wonder again realizing that that game wasn't fair at all. And it wasn't as if Julius had done anything to make things easier for him. 'In the end, I paid the same price as all the other players!'
'Maybe it was just luck!?' To be honest, Julius didn't believe that, but at the moment it was the only thing that made sense.
"Well thought, dear!" The middle-aged man couldn't help but praise his wife, causing her to squirm in the place where she was sitting.
"Please dear, don't make me feel embarrassed in front of the young people" The woman replied with her face so red she looked like she was on fire.
'Wait a minute, woman! He just gave you a simple compliment! Why are you so embarrassed?!' Julius couldn't help but be shocked at how a simple compliment made the woman so embarrassed!
"Don't talk like that about your mother, Eleonor!" The father scolded his daughter.
"Yes! One day when you find love it will be the same way as your mother!" And the woman scolded along with her husband.
Julius, without realizing it, had joined a very interesting family.
Not knowing what to do in a situation like that, he just kept quiet and watched how things unfolded.
'What's going on?' He just watched from the corner, while the family seemed to argue and have fun together...
Julius and the family members were already at the border with the forest.
At that moment, they were already recovered and with full MANA. In addition, they had all already introduced themselves and explained how their [Paths] and unique gifts worked.
Becoming a real party!
Eleonor was the daughter of the couple and had the [Path] of a healer.
She explained that she had this [Path] because she was in the third semester of medical school! Julius noticed that she was quite proud of that achievement.
In addition, the celestial gift she received was a magic staff! The staff was called [Little Angel] and had the ability to store a little MANA every time Eleonor used any kind of skill, allowing her to use some spells already stored in the staff itself with this MANA. 'It seems like this artifact is quite high-level!' Julius imagined that he had at least the same level as the [Star Devourer] sword he possessed, maybe even a higher level!
The older woman was named Katharina and was an assassin. She didn't explain exactly why she had made that choice, but she thought she could scare her husband and daughter with [Vanish]. Eleonor explained quickly that her mother loved to scare her and her father by sneaking up behind them!
And it was at that moment that the mother laughed a lot explaining that her daughter and husband were extremely easy to scare!
'I imagine that was exactly the reason she had that [Path] as an option!'
And the celestial gift she received was a physical. She didn't give many details, but she explained that she got stronger when she was in a shadow. 'Very useful for an assassin.'
Lastly, the man was named Frans and had the [Path] of Guardian. Julius imagined that he had received that [Path] by choice for being a very protective man of the family. Frans also said that the shield was an artifact, but did not give any details about the artifact.
Julius was the last and as he was embarrassed to be the only one to say a name like 'Tyrant' he ended up saying his real name to the family.
'Since it's just the first name, I don't see any problem with that.'
Obviously, Julius only told about the sword and the [Path] he was taking.
He preferred to keep his physical as a secret for now.
'Besides, my physical only improves my attributes, it's not something I need to share with them.'
"Let's not wait here outside. Let's go into this forest right away!" Eleonor said excitedly as she pushed her father to go ahead. Katharina and Julius found themselves with no choice but to follow the father and daughter pair.
Upon entering the forest, the group encountered a dense fog that made it difficult to see.
It was almost as if they had entered a different world. With doubts, Julius looked back and saw the green plains.
The strange thing was that the image he saw outside the forest was completely different from what he saw inside.
It was as if the outside was just a fake painting and only after people set foot inside the forest did reality really reveal itself.
Unfortunately, the group couldn't linger there for long, as a wolf was already waiting for them as soon as they entered the forest. They had barely stepped into the forest when they encountered their first enemy.
