Grimmjow's eyes narrowed, the full implications of Kai's words slowly sinking in. His gaze hardened, his fists clenching tighter. He had underestimated Kai, and now he was paying the price.
The battlefield was still, the only sounds were the muffled groans of the injured Arrancars. The Arrancars, now wary of Kai's abilities, watched the scene unfold, a sense of dread settling over them. Kai, however, maintained his relaxed demeanor, the corners of his lips twitching upwards into a lazy smile.
At this time, more figures arrived on the battlefield. Hitsugaya, Renji, Ikkaku, and Yumichika, along with Ichigo, Chad, and Uryuu, rushed towards the rooftop. They surveyed the scene in shock, their gazes moving from the injured Arrancars to the transformed Grimmjow, and then to Kai, who seemed nonchalant despite the chaos around him.
"What happened here?" Hitsugaya's voice echoed across the rooftop, his azure eyes narrowed as he sensed the formidable spiritual pressure around him. These were no regular Hollows. Their power was far beyond what he had anticipated. He glanced at the Espada, then back at Kai, his gaze full of questions.
Matsumoto, standing close to Kai, was still processing the situation. She turned towards her captain, meeting his concerned gaze. "Captain Hitsugaya," she started, her voice slightly shaky as she began to explain the events that had unfolded.
"We arrived to find these Arrancars led by the Sixth Espada," she began, her gaze shifting towards the injured Arrancars. "Kai..." she paused, her gaze moving to Kai, who seemed unperturbed by the situation. "Kai engaged them with his bankai, Mugon no Yūjin: Zettai Yūjin."
"Bankai?" Hitsugaya interjected, surprise flickering in his eyes as he turned to look at Kai. The lazy, uninterested expression on his face was in stark contrast to the turmoil around him. He didn't seem to be a man who had just engaged with an Espada and his team single-handedly.
Matsumoto nodded, swallowing the lump in her throat before continuing. "Yes, Captain. His Bankai... it reflects the attacks back at the attackers. The stronger the attack, the stronger the reflection."
A wave of silence washed over them as the Shinigami processed Matsumoto's explanation. They glanced at Kai again, a newfound respect in their eyes. Kai seemed oblivious to their admiration, his attention focused solely on Grimmjow, whose eyes bore into him with pure hatred.
"You think this is over, don't you?" Grimmjow's voice echoed ominously, his tone filled with a menacing promise. His gaze never left Kai, who merely shrugged in response.
"Are you planning another self-destructive attack?" Kai asked, his tone light, as if he was discussing the weather rather than facing off against an Espada. There was a hint of amusement in his voice, further irritating Grimmjow.
Ignoring his jibe, Grimmjow turned towards the newly arrived Shinigami, a growl rumbling in his throat. "I've had enough of your little friend," he snarled, his eyes glinting with malice. "I'll deal with him later. For now, I'll rip you all apart."
Hitsugaya's gaze hardened at Grimmjow's threat, his hand moving to unsheath Hyōrinmaru. "We'll see about that," he replied, his voice cold and steady.
Kai's chuckles resonated across the battlefield, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "You think you can get out, don't you?" he questioned, his voice dripping with mockery. "Even your strongest attack failed to even scratch the surface of my ability, yet you think you can come out and kill us all?"
Grimmjow was arrogant, haughty. He was the closest thing to a Vasto Lorde even before Aizen turned him into an Arrancar. He wasn't going to accept defeat. "You can't keep me here forever," he snarled, his voice carrying an echo of fury. "And it doesn't seem like you can attack while I'm here. Sooner or later, you'll cancel this ability and let me free. Then, I will tear you all to pieces."
Hearing this, Kai chuckled. His amusement was infectious, gradually turning into a hearty laughter that echoed around the battlefield. His laughter only served to ignite the anger burning within Grimmjow further.
"What are you laughing at, bastard?" Grimmjow growled, his tone menacing and irritable. His eyes narrowed, glinting with a mix of hatred and confusion.
Kai merely shrugged, his amusement never waning. "Dimension means a separate space, dummy," he retorted, his voice brimming with blatant condescension. He slowly raised his palm, the back of his hand facing the sky.
As Kai started to close his hand slowly, an extraordinary phenomenon unfolded before their eyes. The space around Grimmjow and the Arrancars began to shrink from outside, but from within, it remained the same size. However, to Grimmjow and the Arrancars, the Shinigamis seemed to grow bigger. It was an illusion, a masterful manipulation of perspective and space.
The mirror dimension eventually became as small as a snowball, floating gently into Kai's outstretched palm where it came to a rest. To the Arrancars, it was a terrifying spectacle, the feeling of being trapped within a confined space, at the mercy of their opponent. To the Shinigami, it was a display of unparalleled power and control, leaving them in awe of Kai's abilities.
Kai glanced at the tiny mirror dimension in his palm, a smug smile playing on his lips. "Your arrogance is your downfall, Grimmjow," he said, his voice echoing around the battlefield. "This is the consequence of disrupting my peace."
Still in awe of the spectacle she'd just witnessed, Matsumoto found her voice wavering slightly as she addressed Kai. "What are you going to do with them?" She questioned, her gaze falling on the tiny mirror-like sphere nestled comfortably in Kai's palm. The sight of Grimmjow and his subordinates trapped within the orb sent a chill down her spine, a stark reminder of the latent power Kai wielded.
Kai turned towards her, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Well," he began, his voice filled with mirth as he looked at the orb fondly. He stretched his arm out, the orb levitating above his palm as he performed a circular motion with his hand. Suddenly, the orb vanished into thin air as if it was never there, causing Matsumoto to gasp in surprise.
"I always wanted a zoo, now I have a panther," he declared nonchalantly, his statement followed by a soft chuckle that resonated in the silence. He shrugged his shoulders as if imprisoning an Espada was an everyday occurrence.
Matsumoto couldn't help but blink in disbelief, her gaze flicking between where the orb had been and Kai's relaxed demeanor. She had known him to be eccentric, but his casual handling of the situation was still somewhat shocking.
The other Shinigami were equally stunned, their gazes moving from the spot where the mirror-like orb had been to Kai. A mixture of awe, respect, and disbelief swirled within their expressions. The man they had dismissed as lazy and indifferent had single-handedly neutralized an Espada and his subordinates, and made it look like child's play.
Hitsugaya was the first to recover, his azure gaze scrutinizing Kai. "Impressive," he said, his voice grudgingly respectful. "Although, you could have been more serious about it."
Kai only shrugged, a lazy grin on his face. "And why would I want to do that? That sounds troublesome," he replied, his tone light. His nonchalant response earned him a few exasperated looks from the others, but he seemed unfazed by them.
Matsumoto found herself shaking her head, a small smile on her face despite the situation. "Never change, Kai," she muttered, her voice laced with amusement.
Elsewhere, Ichigo was staring at Kai, his brows furrowed. "That's one way to handle an Espada," he muttered, his voice carrying a hint of disbelief. Renji, standing beside him, nodded, his gaze still glued to where the mirror orb had been.
"Just what kind of monster is he?" Yumichika mused aloud, his voice carrying a note of awe. Ikkaku grunted in agreement, his gaze wary as he observed Kai.
Chad and Uryuu exchanged glances, both of them quiet. They had seen a fair share of unusual powers during their adventures, but Kai's ability was truly unique.
As the night gradually gave way to dawn, the tension on the rooftop slowly began to dissipinate. The remaining Arrancars had been dealt with, and the Shinigami began tending to their “wounds” and cleaning up the mess from the battle.
