Chapter 3: Chapter 3 Green Palm Tavern
It was four o'clock in the afternoon, most of the crew were awake, and Caesar got up and began to greet his men. "Come on, let's go outside the camp and drink! I haven't slept in this heat!" Caesar complained.
"Hooray, chief!" Caesar's crew was very excited about the free booze they would soon enjoy. On a hot day like this, only chilled ale could soothe the parched hearts of these soldiers.
"Jon, take the men first to the Green Palm Tavern, one mug of ale each, and book me a private room, and tell the proprietor's wife to put the bill on me; Tom, you and I will go to Lieutenant York." Caesar commanded.
"Okay, guv." The two replied.
He took Tom to Uncle York's tent, "Uncle York, go and drink!" Just entering the tent, Caesar shouted at Uncle York, who seemed to have just woken up.
"Got it, keep your voice down kid, my head is shaking from you." Uncle York snickered.
"Uncle hurry up, the Green Palm Tavern in the town of Giza outside the camp, I've arranged for a private room to be booked." Caesar said.
"Eh, let's go." Uncle York put on some civilian clothes and set off after Caesar. "This is Tom, isn't it, the lad has gotten quite a bit stronger." Uncle York was also a little impressed with this lad from the same town.
"Yeah Uncle, I'm so happy with my body right now, I'd have no problem beating up three Shiloh brutes." Tom interjected.
"Or this guy can eat to be so strong, he can eat two of my meals in one." Caesar joked.
"Soldiers are meant to be able to eat! Look at how much Uncle I eat in one meal. You kid is still a bit skinny even though you're still in good shape."Uncle York wasn't very happy with Caesar's size.
Caesar now stood at one meter seventy-six, which was actually a little taller than most soldiers, and he was well-proportioned and weighed one hundred and fifty pounds, which really wasn't much compared to Uncle York's five-foot-nine height and almost three hundred pounds. Even Tom was a meter eight and weighed over two hundred.
A group of three, talking and laughing, headed out of the camp.
The town of Giza outside the camp was once the territory of the Kingdom of Shiloh, which had no major natural dangers or resistance left after the Kingdom of Garrel had forced its way down the Felmer Canyon two months ago.
The three legions attacked the depths of the hinterland of the Shiloh Kingdom in three directions, upper, middle and lower, pointing directly at the Shiloh capital city of Odysseus City, crushing it all the way to this day.
The Eagle Legion was encircling the attack from the south, and since resistance along the way was sporadic, the Legion Commander decided to spread out the ranks and engage the four infantry regiments of 20,000 men in brigades averaging 500 men a battalion at the village and town level.
For attacking cities or large territories and then reintegrated into the form of a corps, a corps of 5,000 people, the corps command only left a total of 10,000 people in the cavalry regiment and logistics regiment to stay at the military headquarters.
The town of Giza was a town somewhere in the south of the Kingdom of Shiloh. This town had just gone through the baptism of war, walking along the roadside, houses burning into charcoal, dark-faced beggars could be seen everywhere.
The men peeked down at Caesar and the others with fearful and alarmed eyes, the standard civilian clothes of the Garrel Kingdom's army revealing Caesar's identity as them.
War always destroys something, and when Caesar and his battalion had captured the place two weeks ago, the lessons of blood and fire had taught the remaining inhabitants of the town to accept these strange arrivals.
The owner of the Green Palm Tavern is a smart man who is rumored to have betrayed his homeland before the armies of the Kingdom of Garrel even arrived.
By betraying the town's defense force and capturing the town's mayor himself, the owner of the Green Palm Tavern managed to gain an olive branch from Baron Kyle, the de facto controller of Caesar's and his battalion, after offering a large sum of money.
The Green Palm Tavern would be the only property still in business in the town at the moment, and he serves the soldiers in the barracks.
As for why so many soldiers are willing to drink outside the camp, one is that there are very few senior officers here in the camp, and the highest is also the level of small captains who drink here, where these big-headed soldiers can speak freely, drinking and bragging and punching at will.
Secondly, the cost here is low, because as an occupied area, the original currency of the Kingdom of Shiloh is about to be useless, and pucks are now hard currency. A large mug of ale costs only one copper puck, which is half of the price of the camp, and there are also some other businesses here.
As a result of the war, many women whose families were too poor to survive came here to earn an extra income. Some of them came voluntarily, some were forced to, but no one would care about them now that the laws of the war zone had not yet been established.
Because the price is cheaper and fresher than those women in the quartermaster camp, even the strict military discipline can't control the hearts of this group of hot and dry soldiers, and as this hidden business of Green Palm Tavern has a tendency to grow bigger and bigger, the higher-ups also turn a blind eye to it.
In fact, in the occupied areas this is a common thing, the bottom of the civilian population of the Kingdom of Shiloh, this year because of the war on the mainland how many can peacefully farming, not farming what they eat? They can only sell blood and meat ...
Caesar and his entourage arrived inside the Green Palm Tavern, just entering the door a strong smell of sweat and noise came to the face, it seems that a lot of people have already come to patronize.
Sure enough, after seeing quite a few familiar faces, Caesar and the others all smiled and nodded to each other to show their appreciation.
Uncle York was even more popular, after all, there were quite a few other boys from his squadron here, and as one of the four substantive squadron commanders of their battalion, Uncle York was considered one of the senior ones, and quite a few people came up to greet him.
Uncle York just nodded slightly.
"Guv, over here!" A shout came, and sure enough Jon and his gang had occupied a couple of tables in the corner of the tavern, and by the look of the large mugs of ale still untouched on their table tops, it looked like they were still waiting for Caesar and the others.
Uncle York was still entertaining the people around him and Caesar led Tom towards their squad's table first. "You guys go ahead and drink, I have things to discuss with Lt. York. Jon, go order Tom a drink as well." Caesar instructed the squad members.
"All right, guv." Jon nodded, handing Caesar a key in the process, a key to the upstairs private room.
"Tom, you drink with the men, and I will go and discuss matters with Uncle York." Caesar added to Tom.
"Eh, there you go." Tom nodded, looking at the front desk not far away where Jon had walked up with a large glass of Ice Cane Ale for him, Tom smiled and showed a mouthful of yellow teeth, the guy was good for it too.
"Drink up, brothers, and I'll be down in a minute." Caesar said and headed for Uncle York.
"Guv, go for it." "All right, guv." "Guv, we'll wait for you." ... The squad members all said.
"Uncle, let's go up." Caesar said to Uncle York. Uncle York was still exchanging pleasantries with the soldiers who greeted him, when he heard that, he nodded to Caesar and said to the people around him "I've got things to do, boys go ahead and drink." "Okay, Captain." "Captain, goodbye." "Captain, come down and have a drink with us."
The surrounding soldiers were not without eyes, and they nodded in response.
It was not without intent that Caesar used the word 'uncle' here to address Lieutenant York, showing his unusual relationship with the lieutenant.
The battles in the barracks are also everywhere, and a little name calling also reflects Caesar's not bad backstage. Let the people who have the heart to listen to also to Caesar's influence invariably enhance a lot.
Moreover, what was being talked about with the lieutenant commander at this time of the year was roughly guessed by those who had reached a certain level, and there were a few soldiers around here whose complexion changed slightly.
Caesar and Uncle York went up the stairs around the corner from the front desk, nodding to the tavern keeper's wife at the front desk in the meantime.
It was a woman with red wavy curly hair and a lot of style, named Chassie.
After all, when you drink and talk about things in someone's place, you have to make a face with the host family. Chassie waved a wink to indicate that she knew. This charming siren, Caesar thought in his mind.
Upstairs there was a row of five or six private rooms, and Caesar took the key and found theirs and opened the door.
The room was small, less than twenty square feet, with a window through which one could see the lush mountains in the distance, a table by the window, a sofa on each side of the table, a screen by the doorway that was not elaborate, but rather eye-pleasing, and a small coat-rack standing beside it, and on the table were two glasses, and two bottles of mulled wine in a bottle made of glass and with an oak cork.
The room layout as a whole made people feel comfortable, Caesar had been here once, and Caesar, who had never attached himself to a place, was impressed as he felt that drinking here was very classy. This is a woman who can do business, Caesar commented to the owner's wife.
