Higuruma was startled when that barrier overlapped with his own domain, shattering it instantly and nullifying the manifestation of both techniques.

In just 12 days since he discovered the world of sorcerers and curses, he realized he was proficient with barrier techniques and could expand his domain without practice. His talent was absurd, to the point where, in such a short time, he had grown strong enough to rival a Grade 1 sorcerer.

With over 100 points, he had already eliminated 20 sorcerers who tried to attack him, granting him a significant amount of combat experience.

But no matter how many enemies he had faced, this was the first time he encountered such a dangerous opponent. He had fought adversaries capable of domain expansion before, but never someone with such refined skill, which had always secured him victory in barrier disputes.

The boy before him destroyed his barrier in an instant, meaning Itadori had barrier refinement far superior to Higuruma's.

This was problematic because, despite facing countless adversaries and curses, it was the first time the lawyer felt that...

He might actually die.

"..." Higuruma stared cautiously, his eyes narrowing as he realized he couldn't summon his hammer, his cursed energy slightly chaotic due to the instability of his technique.

But while he was in this state, Itadori, standing before him, appeared deep in thought, rubbing his chin as though the advantage of instability was trivial.

'What do I do now?'

He wondered, pondering. He intended to resolve the situation peacefully, but things had escalated negatively. His domain was more refined than Higuruma's, and his victory in the barrier dispute allowed him to expand his domain at will.

But it made no sense. Even if he wanted to eliminate Higuruma, it wouldn't benefit him since he would lose 100 points and a powerful ally.

Nor would he allow himself to be caught in the trial. Itadori didn't fear a death sentence; the issue was that he was far from being "weak" like his original counterpart.

He blamed himself for the deaths of dozens of students transfigured by Mahito, for not using his future knowledge to save people in Shibuya, and for eliminating his two brothers without hesitation.

But he didn't regret any of those choices.

Everything he did, he did to prevent a greater catastrophe. Before Shibuya, his fear of causing significant changes due to the butterfly effect prevented him from acting on his meta-knowledge.

But that had changed. He had eliminated the elders and was on his way to taking down Kenjaku and saving Tsumiki. He had made mistakes before, but he would no longer let hesitation stop him from doing what was right.

Even so, allowing some events to occur as destined ensured that the pieces were perfectly positioned. Though he felt guilty, he wouldn't regret it.

Considering all this, he preferred to avoid the trial since he would hardly convince Higuruma of his "innocence." Instead, he intended to bring judgment back to the lawyer's mind the traditional way.

With motivational words!

...

And if that didn't work, he'd use violence because, as the saying goes, if violence isn't working, it's because you're not using enough.

!

Leaping back as a massive hammer landed where he stood, Itadori turned to see Higuruma charging toward him. 'He regained stability... That was fast.'

Dodging the hammer flying at him from all directions, Itadori nodded in satisfaction at the high refinement level of the lawyer's reinforcement.

"Don't you want to think this through a bit more?" Itadori asked calmly, even as the sorcerer struggled to land a hit on him. "You're a lawyer. I thought you'd understand my side."

Higuruma growled, and by enlarging his hammer into a two-handed weapon, he finally managed to strike Itadori hard enough to send him flying into the theater walls.

'I hit him with all my strength, and yet...' Watching Itadori emerge from the rubble with no apparent injuries, he gritted his teeth. 'Damn it, how durable is he?!'

Returning his hammer to its normal size, Higuruma assumed a battle stance, his stoic face betraying disbelief in his thoughts.

"Hey, shouldn't you value the innocent? Are you really going to let innocent people die just because you want to test the penalty of a twisted game?" Itadori asked seriously, brushing dust off his shoulders.

'Damn it, shut up!' Higuruma frowned, gripping his hammer tightly.

He was tired of people, especially those who preached virtue, acting noble as if they weren't flawed like everyone else.

This boy, in his eyes, was no different from them—no one was!

"Then shut up!"

"Huh?"

Itadori was confused when Higuruma suddenly shouted, ducking to avoid a hammer hurled at him with enough force to embed itself in the wall.

!

But as he turned back to Higuruma, he was surprised to see the lawyer closing the distance while conjuring his hammer again.

'He's good!' Itadori praised. 'But he still lacks brute power!'

Effortlessly dodging the attack, he grabbed Higuruma's wrist and tossed him aside, causing him to stumble as he landed.

This seemed to irritate Higuruma, who, for the first time, showed frustration on his usually stoic face.

Itadori frowned at this. Higuruma seemed adamant about ignoring his words and continuing to attack, which was not a good sign.

'What exactly is making him so antagonistic?' He recalled the reason Higuruma gave up in the original fight, something about Itadori's innocence regarding the Shibuya incident, but he couldn't remember the lawyer's thoughts in detail.

Frustrated with the laws and the judgment system—yes, that was clear—but how did this relate to his disregard for the innocent? Shouldn't it make him more determined to help those judged unfairly?

'Damn it, I can't remember...' Itadori sighed, assuming a stance, his gaze hardening. 'Fine, I'll keep trying to knock some sense into him until it works! I refuse to eliminate someone with so much potential!'

"You should value the truth! And the truth is that if you don't believe me, everyone in Japan will die! Are you really willing to let that happen just because of your selfish curiosity?!"

"Truth?" Higuruma repeated disdainfully, narrowing his eyes as he enlarged his hammer into a two-handed weapon. "Don't try to act noble! No matter how much you pretend..."

Boom!

Higuruma swung his hammer toward Itadori's head, and the young sorcerer leapt to avoid the strike.

"You won't find anything different because..."

!

But as Itadori was caught off guard when the hammer flew away, he realized Higuruma had deliberately let go of it, closing the distance as a kick landed squarely on his face.

"You're as flawed as everyone else!"

With a medium-sized hammer forming in his hands, Higuruma quickly struck his ribs with enough force to send him crashing against the wall.

"..."

Lying beneath some rubble, Itadori sighed before pressing his lips together with a thoughtful expression.

He could have dodged the attack, but he chose to take it to buy some time to think about Higuruma's words.

Fortunately, this time, he managed to understand a bit more of the lawyer's motivations. He was tired.

Tired of people. This, in fact, was quite normal in the legal profession.

After so many cases, being judged from all sides, constantly cornered, the pressure on someone like Higuruma, who was talented, was immense.

He wasn't only judged by outsiders who believed he was defending a criminal but also by the accused themselves, who judged him for failing to save them.

After failing due to the system's inefficacy, he was already tired of people—it wasn't abnormal for him to finally snap.

It seemed that after awakening as a sorcerer, his exhaustion with people only grew, leading him to simply stop caring since he saw everyone else as flawed.

Sympathizing with someone meant understanding their flaws.

After sympathizing with so many people's flaws day after day, Higuruma had come to a conclusion.

Everyone was flawed, and he was done with it.

"I understand…" Itadori nodded as he brushed off the rubble from his body, standing up without serious injuries, save for a mark on his face. "So, that's how you see things…

All people are flawed, and because of that, it doesn't matter if they live or die."

Rising to his feet while dusting off his clothes, he turned to see Higuruma staring at him with irritation.

"I guess we have different perspectives, Mr. Higuruma," Itadori stated with a tired look, cursed energy coating his fists as he slowly took a stance. "All people are flawed? They don't matter because of that? No, I can't agree with that."

"I don't care—"

"Flaws are what make us so individual, and what make us capable of becoming better." Itadori clenched his fists tightly, his eyes locking with Higuruma's as both seemed to brace for the inevitable clash. "What meaning is there in perfection? Does someone deserve to die because their flaw is being weak? Are you really going to abandon these people for that?"

!

Unwilling to hear more, Higuruma charged forward, the ground cracking beneath him, his hammer raised in anticipation.

"Answer me, Higuruma!"

Itadori spoke commandingly, his forearm blocking Higuruma's strike. The lawyer grit his teeth, summoning another hammer in his free hand and landing a blow on Itadori's face hard enough to draw blood from his nose.

"If your answer is yes…" But shrugging off the blood trickling from his nose, Itadori shoved Higuruma back with a powerful kick. "Then I'll leave!"

Higuruma clutched his abdomen where the powerful impact hit, his scowl fading as he was confronted by the boy's words.

Higuruma wanted to claim he was angry because Itadori's words were wrong, that they were meaningless!

But he couldn't deny the truth—because, despite everything, he was a lawyer.

Would he ignore those weak words? Would he go against his own principles simply because of his selfishness…?

Could he let the weak people he once fought so hard to protect die because of the ridiculous rules of a ritual?

"..." Higuruma fell silent, sighing as he raised his head and ran a hand through his hair, the hammer in his hand vanishing.

It was obvious he couldn't… He was just too stubborn to admit it.

And a little irritated too.

"You're right." Higuruma, now facing a relieved Itadori, moved to grab two chairs for them. "I've been acting irrationally. Forgive me for that…"

Setting the chairs opposite each other, Higuruma sat down and gestured for Itadori to join him.

"So, tell me more about this ritual…"

Itadori smiled at this.

'Diplomacy wins again!' he thought triumphantly… Though he couldn't shake the feeling that he'd just mimicked the demeanor of a certain blonde-haired ninja…

It left him with an odd sense of dissatisfaction in his chest.
