Chapter 15: Chaos At The Mall.
"What's that?!" I screamed in panic.
Warren, on the other hand, remained calm, although his face seemed somewhat annoyed, and I thought I heard him murmur "that idiot," although due to the noise, I'm not sure if it was just my imagination.
Terror and chaos filled the city. Screams echoed in all directions, and dread settled in my chest. I had a feelling that the cause of the explosions was far from ordinary.
However, soon the signal of the televisions in the buildings began to fail until a hooded figure spoke. The hooded person wore a mask like those used in theater, but with one difference. The right side was white, with a happy expression, and the left side was black, with an annoyed expression.
"Ahem! This message is directed to Trio Encanto," said the figure. Judging by the voice, it was clear that the speaker was a girl. She spoke in an annoyed tone, "I'll be brief. Come and rescue these people before they are blown to pieces and prove that the people of Star City are truly protected under your watch... But which of the different locations will they be at? That should be an easy task for the Trio Encanto... I'll be waiting."
The girl then showed the hostages on the screen, all of them unconscious. As I watched the screen of the building carefully, I saw the silhouette of a familiar person. "Oh no... Gris!"
I quickly turned to Warren urgently. "We have to do something!"
Warren shook his head and, with a casual tone, replied, "There's nothing we can do. Do you see that?" He said, pointing to the smoke trails in the sky. "We don't know which of the different locations the hostages are. Besides, this doesn't concern us. It's better to leave this to Trio Encanto. "
That's what I thought too, but now that I know who Trio Encanto really is, I can't just trust them. Besides, Gris is in danger. I definitely have to do something.
"Fine, then I'll go alone," I said, clicking my tongue.
"Hey, didn't you hear me? We don't know where Lara— that terrorist is!"
"No!" I said, showing Warren the last message Gris sent me. "I know where they are!"
Immediately, I ran towards the direction of the new mall. If I hurried, I could get there in a few minutes.
"Mila, you Idiot… If you run now, the effects of the sorcery—!"
"Eh?"
At that moment, my body began to glow with a yellow hue. I felt really revitalized and extremely light.
Fwooom! "W-whoa!" I was running towards the mall, but at an incredibly high speed. I couldn't tell how fast I was going, but I definitely knew I was faster than a bullet train.
Within seconds, I could see the facade of the new mall, a gigantic building with multiple glass floors. In the center of the building, there was an arch-shaped space that divided the building in two. In that space, there was a gigantic star.
Because I couldn't control my body, I crashed into the sliding glass door at the entrance. I bumped into several people running in all directions and took the escalator. At high speed, I reached the top floor of the mall, the food court.
Quickly, I saw the hooded figure from the video along with the unconscious hostages. There were also several unconscious security agents scattered on the floor.
In those brief seconds, I also caught sight of Gris and felt a deep sense of relief knowing she was okay.
"W-what? Who are you—?" said the hooded person in a confused tone.
Because of the great speed I was running at, I crashed into her, causing her to fly and crash violently into a burger stand.
Fortunately for me, the crash with the stranger caused my body to return to normal. Stunned, I opened and closed my fist to see if everything was fine. "I'm back to normal!" I said, sighing with relief.
But the hooded girl brought me back to the dangerous situation I was in.
"A sorceress? No one told me there were more sorceresses in Star City! Well, never mind, I've already completed my mission anyway." The girl stood up from the rubble, rubbing her head. But this time, the right side of her mask was a bit broken, and I could see a brown eye.
"You, release the hostages!" I demanded.
"So noisy..." The girl, with an annoyed tone, continued. "I can't do that... Everyone here is my sacrificial lamb."
"Sacrificial lamb?" I asked incredulously.
"That's right. If Trío Encanto doesn't show up in the next hours, these people will explode into pieces. That was part of the deal. That way, the people in Star City will know that Trío Encanto is nothing but a fraud."
What?! Oh no, Gris! I looked in the direction where Gris was. God, she looked so beautiful while she was sleeping. I definitely can't let anyone hurt her. I have to protect her smile...
I looked once more at the masked girl. After gathering all my courage, I decided what to do! I... I'll defeat her and free the hostages. I won't allow anyone to hurt Gris! Anyone who dares to harm her will have to face me!
"I warn you, let them go or..."
"Or what?"
To my surprise, the girl wasn't intimidated by my threats, even after seeing that I could run at high speed. So, I decided to use a bit more of my sorcery.
Warren's words from training came to mind. To activate sorcery, you need control over the mind and body. Once both are in sync, you must feel the flow of energy and act.
"Or this!" At that moment, my body glowed yellow once again.
"!!!" This time, the girl took a few steps back, clearly scared of what she was witnessing. Without hesitation, I got into a sprinting pose. I crouched down and raised the back of my body. "Now!" I ran at high speed towards the girl. She couldn't dodge my attack.
"Gahhh!" I landed a punch to her stomach. I felt my fist sinking deeper into her. A satisfied smile appeared on my face. However...
The girl grabbed my wrist tightly. "You'll need a stronger attack to defeat me! An attack like this doesn't even tickle me!"
"!!!!" The girl's hand glowed intensely, bathing everything around her in a blinding light.
The thought from the other day, after Gris mentioned the robberies, came to mind 'what if it's something they can't catch? Like another sorcerer?'
It was at that moment that I realized how reckless I had been... . Amid the blinding light, I could barely make out the figure and realized that this girl was a sorceress.
Boom! A gigantic explosion destroyed half of the mall, exposing the interior to the outside. I fell to the ground, my clothes were damaged, and my red hat was blown off due to the explosion. Everything around me looked blurry, and I almost passed out.
