Infinite Evolution: My Idle Evolution System

Chapter 98: Baba Yaga's Prophecy

Similarly, Viola Voidweaver believed in space supremacy. However, unlike the silver-haired beauty, she had long, flowing dark hair that faded into a starry void at the tips. Her violet eyes seemed to contain galaxies, and her black robes rippled as though touched by unseen forces. Furthermore, her skin shimmered faintly with the reflection of distant stars.

Like Rika, she also didn't mind leaving planet Earth, but a larger part of her felt something was wrong with the stars…

As one deeply connected with the Space Element and the constellations, Viola had a keener sense than even the hot-headed Rika. She could instinctively sense something unusual about the sky and stars. Since awakening, she had always felt like everything above was… false.

Yet, she couldn't pinpoint what exactly made her feel this way. It was extraordinarily odd.

After a few moments of silence.

Arden sighed before nodding. "Very well, we will discuss now who will take up the task of participating in the World's End Raid."

The other S-Rank Hunters wanted to oppose but were smart enough to know it was futile.

Victor Rapido, on the other hand, remained silent from beginning to end. He was one of the few S-Rank Hunters who had survived the horrors of that Gate, and he, better than anyone else, knew exactly what lay in store for anyone who dared enter again. Especially if that "monster" became any more powerful than it already was…

The world might just come to an end…

While Victor was lost in thought, he and the other S-Rank Japanese Hunters turned around and huddled together. They began discussing who was most suited for the Raid.

After a lengthy, often argumentative discussion, the S-Rank Hunters turned back around, their decisions final. A few of them wore soured, almost begrudging expressions, but the Chairman paid them no mind. Reluctance was expected.

"So, who will be participating in the World's End Gate Raid approximately one and a half months from now?" asked the Chairman.

Arden stepped forward to announce:

"I will now call out who among us will be joining the Raid—

Myself, Arden Stormcall, Guild Leader of the Storm Guild.

Luna Astra, Leader of the Luminescent Guild.

Viola Voidweaver, Leader of the Voidling Guild.

Rika Starforge, Leader of the StarFaith Guild.

Kaida Drakenshield, Leader of the Dragonlins Guild.

And Thorfin Strongman, Leader of the FireLord Guild."

As Arden called off the names, the Chairman jotted them down on a separate piece of paper. After finishing up the details, he looked up. His dead, harsh eyes scanned the six S-Rank Hunters who stepped forward. For a very brief instant, his irises flashed with regret, yet none besides Luna and Viola noticed it.

"If this is who you have unanimously decided to join the Raid, then I will be expecting all relevant documents related to who will be taking over your duties in your Guilds," said the Chairman. "Furthermore, you will have to fill in, sign, and verify the death insurance papers that serve as the will of your Guilds. Static Baron felt no need to do this, and now with him resting six feet under, his Guild is left as a big political mess, with all the Psychic Guild's members pointlessly fighting for the Guild Leader position."

A deep sigh of annoyance escaped the Chairman's lips before he waved the S-Rank Hunters off. "You are dismissed. Those of you who were chosen have 46 days to prepare; that is all."

"Yes, Chairman."

The S-Rank Hunters hurriedly left the Executive Office. They had important things to do, especially the six chosen for the Raid. Forty-six days was not a long time to settle all matters before potentially dying, but they had to make do with what they had.

Enveloped in the deafening silence of the empty office room, the Chairman muttered to himself, "The end of the world edges ever closer… The other Hunter Association Chairmen and even the World Leaders know precisely what this evolving Gate entails. They always knew… Yet none of them took the threat seriously. None believed the words of Baba Yaga…"

Roughly six years ago, during a golden age for the Hunters, Gates were numerous yet not to the point where the safety of any country was threatened. It was a period when Hunter and Gate-related businesses were the most profitable.

However, as if all of that was akin to the last good meal for a death row prisoner, a famed prophet known as Baba Yaga stepped forward. Along with her reappearance in the material world came a message—or, rather, a prophecy.

Barging into the broadcasted meeting of the World Leaders and the most powerful Hunters, Baba Yaga shouted her prophecy through croaked breath and bloody eyes. It read:

"At the height of humanity, Gates connected to other, shattered worlds will appear! 100 years ago, they appeared—that was the 1st Calamity!"

"And now, at humanity's new peak, 100 years later, the 2nd Calamity has descended! Those from beyond the stars will arrive, bringing with them the negative karma accumulated by all of humanity!"

"At the world's center, a hole will open—an Abyss!"

"The Abyss will bring about the World's End…! T-The Abyss will… There are signs… beforehand… The quantity—the spawn of the universe—the mirrors of the Nine Dimensions—beware of the signs!!"

By this point in the prophecy, Baba Yaga's eyes turned crazed, with her spit and blood spraying the World Leaders' Meeting crimson. Yet not a single one of them stood up to stop her; it wasn't that they respected her, they were just too taken aback by the sudden development to speak.

"Th-The Illusion!!!" Baba Yaga hysterically shouted, her demeanor deranged. "A new Abyss will swallow up the previous Abyss! This Abyss will devour the signs!!"

"The second Abyss will be captured—a captured Abyss, a new owner… The Illusion will shatter!! The Illusion!!! A New Owner will emerge!! A purple-robed God will descend from the sky! The God, the owner, the captured Abyss!! The 3rd Calamity!!! The World as we know it… will END…"

"Watch out for the signs!! E-Escape the… inevitable… T-The Cage… Don't let the Cage—"

*Cough!* *Cough!*

*Thud!*

"Prophet Baba Yaga!"

Famed Prophet Baba Yaga died that day.
