In Honkai with Tom Cat

Chapter 31: Chapter 31: How Could I, the Dignified Herrscher of Thunder, Possibly Lose to a Cat?

On the rooftop, an incredibly bizarre scene was unfolding.

A large, gray-blue cat, holding a wooden sword, stood upright with a self-assumed fierce expression on its face as it walked forward.

In front of it, a haughty figure with wings of light on her back floated in the air, looking down at the approaching cat with eyes full of disdain.

The stark contrast between the two characters made the already strange atmosphere even more surreal.

Not far away, Kiana watched Tom walk toward the Herrscher of Thunder and asked Li Huan with some concern, "Shouldn't we be doing something?"

"What else is there to do? Just sit back and relax," Li Huan replied, having already put away his baseball bat and was now sitting leisurely on the ground. "There's nothing more for me to do. But you might want to prepare to use your ability on the Herrscher at the right moment."

"Of course, if you're really looking for something to do, you could head to the nearby supermarket and grab some popcorn. We might as well enjoy the show."

"Oh, and since there's no one working the cash registers now, you can just take it."

"You're so cold-blooded," Kiana scowled at Li Huan. "You're sending a little cat to fight the Herrscher of Thunder, and you're not worried at all?"

Hearing this, Li Huan nodded. "Oh, I am a bit worried."

"You're worried and still sending it into battle?"

"No, I'm not worried about Tom. I'm worried about whether the Herrscher will be left with a serious psychological scar..."

"Hey! You're worried about the other side?!"

Meanwhile, the Herrscher of Thunder looked at the approaching Tom with extreme disdain.

"What? This is your plan? You're sending a cat to fight me? Have you lost your mind?"

She hadn't expected that the human would actually send a cat that didn't look strong at all.

Although it was curious that the cat could walk on two legs, it seemed frail—how could it possibly defeat her, a Herrscher, the ruler of thunder?

How could I, the dignified Herrscher of Thunder, possibly lose to a cat?

As she continued to brim with confidence, Tom had already reached her.

Sizing up the strange human woman who was slightly taller than him and floating in the air, Tom roughly measured the distance with his paw, then leaped into the air, reaching a height equal to the Herrscher's face.

He remembered what Li Huan had told him: slap the woman in front of him twice.

So, with the paw not holding the wooden sword, Tom swiped hard at the Herrscher of Thunder's face.

As she saw the cat's paw coming towards her, the Herrscher of Thunder remained unconcerned.

An invisible barrier of Honkai energy appeared around her.

This was the same barrier that had stopped Kiana and Li Huan's attacks earlier. It was a basic use of Honkai energy—unless an attack was overwhelmingly powerful, the barrier would block it.

There was no way a simple cat's paw could get through—

*Smack!*

The sharp sound of a slap rang out.

Tom's paw passed through the Honkai energy barrier as if it wasn't there and landed squarely on the Herrscher of Thunder's face.

Her face was turned by the force of the slap, a clear imprint of a cat's paw appearing on her cheek.

!?

Her expression turned blank as she instinctively raised a hand to the spot where she'd been slapped.

What just happened? Did she get slapped?

A cat had just ignored her Honkai energy barrier and directly hit her face.

How was that possible?

Before she could process what had just happened, Tom, who had landed back on the ground, jumped up again, this time aiming to slap the other side of the Herrscher's face.

"Again?"

Seeing Tom's actions, the Herrscher of Thunder was both shocked and furious, reactivating her barrier.

She thought, 'I must have been too careless earlier, not properly using the barrier. This time, if I use it seriously, that cat won't get through!'

Yes, that must be it—

But just as she reassured herself, Tom's paw once again bypassed the barrier and delivered another hard slap to her other cheek.

*Smack!*

The result was the same. The Herrscher's face was now turned in the opposite direction, with matching paw prints on both cheeks, perfectly symmetrical.

The confidence and pride the Herrscher of Thunder had just moments ago were shattered by this slap. Her eyes became dull, and she touched her cheeks in disbelief.

Her mind was racing with questions—why? She couldn't understand, couldn't comprehend!

Why, how could a cat penetrate her barrier and slap her face?

And as Tom landed, seeing the Herrscher still in a daze, his little brain began to work furiously.

This human didn't seem strong at all—just standing there dumbly while being slapped without any resistance.

Does that mean it would be easy to knock this human down?

With that thought, Tom became even more motivated. If he could take her down, surely his master would reward him handsomely!

At the very least, the reward would surely be as good as dinner!

With this in mind, Tom was filled with energy, ready to face any challenge for the promise of a hearty meal!

Just as the Herrscher of Thunder was questioning her life choices, Tom leapt high into the air again, raised the wooden sword, and brought it down hard on her head.

"Ouch!"

The wooden sword strike snapped the Herrscher out of her daze. With tears in her eyes, she rubbed her head and put some distance between herself and Tom.

A bump had formed on her head, making her look quite ridiculous.

"Enough!"

The awakened Herrscher of Thunder felt a surge of indescribable shame and anger.

Not only had this cat slapped her twice, but it had also hit her with a wooden sword. Even if none of the attacks had caused serious harm, the humiliation was complete.

She was the Herrscher of Thunder, the Queen of Lightning! How could she endure such a disgrace?

"You damned cat! I'll fry you to a crisp."

With a flap of her wings, black-purple lightning began to crackle in the Herrscher's hands.

But Tom was undeterred. Wooden sword in hand, he charged at the Herrscher of Thunder like a hero.

In the sky, a bolt of lightning tore through the dark rooftop, illuminating the scene and the impending clash between the Herrscher and the cat.

Watching from a distance, Li Huan remarked:

"This really does look like a movie scene."
