Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Escape Plan
Inside the sports warehouse, a person and a cat are crouched on the ground, leaning against some cover.
Li Huan's expression is somewhat dazed; he finds it hard to accept reality.
Although it's a common situation, he had expected a life of farming and overcoming odds, only to be abruptly thrust into an American-style zombie apocalypse series, one that has dragged on for several installments.
Anyone would find this unacceptable.
There are banging sounds coming from outside the door, but the sturdy iron gate keeps them out. Li Huan feels a rare sense of comfort looking at the iron door.
Unless they are similarly comedic characters, these zombies can't break through, no matter how hard they try.
However, this only addresses the immediate crisis; being trapped here isn't a good thing.
Even though zombies can't get into the warehouse, how will he and Tom get out? There is no food, no water, and no place to use the bathroom; holding out here is definitely not an option.
"We can hide here for a while, but not forever…"
Li Huan sighs deeply, while Tom next to him is also pondering what to do.
[It looks like you've avoided the opening kill.]
The system, which hadn't spoken for a while, suddenly chimes in.
"System! You knew it would be like this, didn't you!"
Hearing the system's voice, Li Huan becomes agitated: "Damn it, you should have told me earlier!"
The system responds in a somewhat mocking tone: [Honestly, I thought you knew which world you were in. I didn't expect you to be so clueless. It's quite amusing, and I'm curious to see how long it will take for you to figure it out.]
Upon hearing these unpleasant words, Li Huan's expression turns grim: "If you want to kill me, just say it…"
[Why would I harm you? By the way, here's some good news: The zombies outside are not virus-infected, so you won't get infected if bitten.]
"Well, that's some good news…"
Li Huan displays a look of disdain. Not getting infected is one thing, but with so many zombies attacking, even a single bite would turn him into a skeleton, regardless of infection or not.
[Relax. After all, this is just the beginning. Are you really thinking of giving up here?]
"True…"
After this exchange, Li Huan calms down a bit.
[So, have you figured out which world you're in?]
"Zombie world, maybe Resident Evil?"
[Just a reminder, none of the main or spin-off Resident Evil games take place in Japan.]
"Alright, so it seems like the well-known zombie works are out of the question. Most of them happen in the US."
Li Huan racks his brain and then remembers a certain series.
"Could it be something like Highschool of the Dead?"
[No, that's normal Japan. This place is different.]
"Oh, Zombie Land Saga?"
[Not that either. Haven't you figured it out yet?]
Li Huan is getting frustrated: "Well, I really can't think of it. There's nothing I can do."
[Hmm, let's just keep you in the dark for now.]
"Damn, is it going to be life-threatening?"
A vein pops up on Li Huan's forehead: "If you had a physical form, I would have already beaten you up."
[It's not crucial. Rather than wasting time talking with me, you should think about how to handle the situation.]
The system's tone turns cold again: [Anyway, a new task has appeared.]
Hearing this, Li Huan opens the task panel, and a new task is indeed listed.
[Main Task: Survival]
[Task Objective: Escape from the sports warehouse.]
[Task Reward: Unlocking the mall and storage sections]
[Description: You have entered your first major crisis. The worst outcome is becoming someone's meal. Use your intelligence to avoid being a zombie shit!]
[PS: Pay attention to all your belongings; perhaps the door to escape has already opened for you.]
Seeing the task, Li Huan roars: "How can zombies even excrete!"
If Li Huan had a packet of salt, he would have thrown it on the ground.
[Is this your main concern?]
After this complaint, Li Huan takes a deep breath to calm himself.
He doesn't need to panic too much; Tom is here to back him up. Even if Tom has to lead him out through the main door, he can manage—wait.
Li Huan suddenly realizes something.
Didn't Tom make a door on the wall behind the sports warehouse?
Although he doesn't know how it was done, they could escape through that door!
Feeling a glimmer of hope for the future, Li Huan quickly pulls out a book from his pocket.
The book's cover reads "Essential Regulations for Thousand Feathers Academy Staff." This was given to him by the management department. Though he's not interested in the regulations, he needs what's inside.
He flips to the last page, which is different from the others—it's a folded ink paper. Unfolding it, a map appears.
This is what Li Huan truly needs: a detailed map of Thousand Feathers Academy!
Examining the map, Li Huan sees they are currently in the sports warehouse, located at the southeastern corner of the playground.
His finger traces to the southeastern part, where he remembers the door is directly behind the sports warehouse, leading to—
Pointing to the back, it leads directly to the second-year high school building.
Looking at the second-year building, Li Huan bites his finger in thought. The map is very detailed, showing the distribution of each floor.
The second-year building has chemistry, physics, and home economics classrooms.
These could have useful items, and the home economics classroom might have essential supplies like pots, spatulas, and knives. These logistics are crucial.
Moreover, the second-year building is closest to the cafeteria and the convenience store, which would allow for food and daily supplies replenishment, extending their survival.
But there's a problem.
He reopens the regulations book and flips to the index, then to a certain page.
The schedule.
Looking at the schedule, Li Huan's heart sinks. Thousand Feathers Academy is a closed-campus city, meaning students have to stay unless on vacation.
According to the schedule, evening study sessions last until ten o'clock and are mandatory.
Li Huan checks his phone. He had synchronized his phone's time with this world's time while eating. Checking the time…
It's ten twelve at night.
"Ugh, this is a bit troublesome."
At this hour, the zombie outbreak likely happened before ten, so there are definitely zombies in the teaching building now. It looks like careful planning is needed…
