Imperial Legacy

Chapter 10: Falling From Deep Space

On a nearby asteroid, a Void Hunter watched all of this unfold.

"…A Leviathan sent them hurling… it seems I didn't need to come here after all… but, I'm bored, and I have no other leads on where Dimensional Fractures may open."

"Perhaps… I'll just follow that destroyed spaceship, just in case it may bring me to where I need to go." The Black Ghost said before she began to follow it out of boredom.

…What is happening?

Why am I floating? Drifting? Swimming… in the air?

What is that bright light? Is that a star?

Why is everything so…

"Nathan…"

"Did you have a nice dream?"

"For the sake of […]…"

"…Come with me."

[…Nathan! Wake up from your confused state. You are severely disorientated. I shall activate your propulsion jets for you.]

Nathan's propulsion jets were activated, but still, he didn't make any attempt to steer himself upright, he only descended faster into the beautiful oceans below him, which culminated in a great big splash of ocean water, and him slowly sinking downwards.

[Descending fast into water levels… however, no viable solution is currently available. I shall activate a small electric shock. Understood?]

Zoom didn't wait for an answer before Nathan felt a great shock that surely jolted him back from the disorientation he experienced.

"…Gah!"

"What… what is this place?" Nathan questioned, staring at the massive expanse of ocean all around him.

[This planet is registered as a human world in my database. According to the information I can gather, this planet is called Siphauth-II, and it is a lower-bracket planet.]

"Lower bracket planet… what's that…?"

[One of the three categories that planets are divided by: lower-bracket, middle-bracket and, higher-bracket. These categories are based on mainly three factors, overall wealth, political power, and poverty rate.]

[However, apparently, it does come across like this world is about to enter the middle bracket.]

Nathan sighed, and pinched the artificial skin on his face, to see if he was dreaming.

"Damn it. The last thing I can remember was the ship being eaten, and seeing a Leviathan's face, before losing all my senses."

"But, the others should be alright, right?"

[Considering the amount of variables… unable to fully decipher probability of survival. Educated guess: not probable.]

"Gahhh…." Nathan groaned. His propulsion jets weren't working, but it was more that he didn't feel like using them, and he felt a bit defeated.

Since the spaceship was now probably destroyed, it would most likely take a long time to get a new one, and he'd be lucky if the employers didn't send people after him for failing to complete the commission, to collect Psychic Stones for them.

"What a terrible situation…"

"Huh?"

A loud horn bellowed from afar. The seas trembled, and thunder clapped. The clouds soon covered the captivating sun, and this heeded the arrival of the fleet under one of the 18 Admirals.

"What the…" Nathan muttered, as he noticed, in the distance, gigantic, black-coloured sea vessels, equipped with all kinds of advanced components and machinery.

There were at least twenty of them, and they seemed to have been led by a captain. A young man with white hair and defined cheekbones, who wore decorative clothing, making himself seem like just a boat captain of old age and not the leader of a fleet. He proclaimed himself right then.

"I am Admiral Viarak. The [[Admiral of Grace]]. I shall see your end, beast." These words echoed until they reached Nathan.

"Beast? Is he talking about me? Or…"

[Warning: a sea creature of over 50 feet has been detected. It is most advised for you to leave the ocean's waters immediately.]

Following the warning, the oceans roared with fury, and a large, squirming tentacle arose from the depths of the irate waters. More of these tentacles arose from these depths until the beast finally revealed itself.

A Kraken. But not just any Kraken, but one that had lived for one thousand years. On this planet, there was a certain rule they abided by. Sea beasts that had lived for that long had the word "Century" put in front of their name, and so this Kraken was called the [[Century Kraken]].

"Holy shit!" Nathan exclaimed, after learning of the presence of a great sea beast that lurked behind him.

He activated his propulsion jets, and watched from above, the chaos that was ensuing.

"GODS OF THE COSMOS, hear me! I, the graceful one among the 18 Admirals, call for the blessings of [[The Maelstrom Arbiter]], so that strength can be lent, and so that we shall decimate the enemies of the [[Kalkorra Empire]]!"

Nathan's eyes widened. He only now just remembered the fact that most planets believed in the Gods of the Cosmos, which was why planetary empires used their symbols as a sign of their strength and prosperity.

"…But, declaring their names out in the open like that, while they're technically killing their kin? Aren't they afraid that the Gods will hear them and destroy their entire planet or something? I don't want to experience their power ever again." Nathan uttered, glancing towards the skies.

"Also, Kalkorra Empire? That… sounds oddly familiar to me."

A tentacle narrowly missed him, before slamming down on one of the mechanical battleships led by the Admiral of Grace. But, these battleships, forged from [[Cullienstine Steel]], which was incredibly hard and durable, even more than Cipherrium, made it hard to sink easily.

"Battleships! Charge your weapons, and open fire at once! We shall destroy the Century Kraken!"

Upon his order, the battleships charged their land-shattering weapons and blasted them at the Century Kraken, causing intense steam to float upwards. And then, one of the condensed plasma shells tore through the Century Kraken's eye, causing the tide of the battle to shift completely.

Its tentacles began to wobble around in erratic, random motions, and soon enough, it delved back down into the ocean, a trail of blue blood following it.

"…So, this is how sea warfare works. I wasn't that quite interested in boats before, but now…"

Nathan halted, as he noticed that Admiral Viarak had locked eyes with him before grinning.

"Well, would you look at that?" The Admiral of Peace muttered, staring at the sky far above him, "We don't necessarily show off our mechanical components here around these parts, do we, Vice Admiral?"

Vice Admiral, Leon Jonkes, otherwise known as [[Sea Bird]], shook his head.

"Then that only means one thing." Admiral Viarak declared, "He's an unauthorised visitor from beyond the sky."
