Chapter 78
78. Those Chosen By Destiny──
Electra left the shop and advanced to the back alley.
The despicable men lay dead, horribly torn apart.
Each corpse looked as if it had been ripped by the claws and fangs of a giant beast.
Looking down at them, Electra sighed softly.
“A fitting end, indeed.”
“You really show no mercy, do you?”
Rue seemed to chuckle inwardly.
“The power of foresight──knowing destiny, manipulating and altering it, saved us. The thought of being humiliated by those guys is terrifying.”
Electra bit her lip.
“That vision was a few hours ahead… Can you see further into the future?”
“I govern the fate of past, present, and future.”
“In theory, I can see as far ahead as possible.”
“But unlike seeing the near future, it’s just a series of abstract images.”
Rue spoke through her three faces in turn.
“The future is uncertain, so events might not unfold as seen.”
“The further it is, the blurrier it becomes… is that correct?”
“Yes. But it can serve as a guideline.”
“Let’s try it.”
Electra focused her consciousness at Rue’s words.
“Manoeuvre: Nightmare Vision.”
Soon, her vision shifted as she got the hang of it.
As expected, vague images appeared.
“This is… definitely not the near future.”
She instinctively felt it.
She was witnessing events of a more distant future.
Days, weeks, or months later.
Or perhaps──.
──A monstrous being, neither dragon nor human, roars.
──A beautiful boy, surrounded by countless knights and wizards, reigns on a throne.
──A woman standing by a spring raises her right hand, opening a massive hole in space.
──A boy draped in a rainbow shimmer faces off against a dark shadow.
Eventually, the images distorted, faded, and disappeared.
The scene shifted again.
Now, numerous patterns floated in the void.
Similar to Electra’s, they clashed, shone, and obliterated each other.
It was like──a battle.
The stronger ones shone brighter, while the weaker ones vanished.
(A battle between skill holders…!?)
The vision shifted again, showing Electra herself.
Before her stood the rainbow-clad boy.
They seemed to be fighting.
Eventually, her body was engulfed in light.
Her limbs, body, and face──disappeared.
Her very existence──disappeared.
(Is this… a vision of defeat?)
She instinctively understood.
A battle that could happen a bit further into the future.
She would be defeated and erased.
Electra would.
(I don’t want this.)
Despair and fear welled up.
(I don’t want this.)
Anger and fighting spirit surged.
(I don’t want to disappear.)
Then, Electra’s form returned, surrounded by a dazzling light.
This seemed like a vision of victory.
“Which is the true future…?”
“Both.”
“The future is uncertain.”
“It depends on your actions.”
Rue’s three mouths declared.
“I see…”
Whether ruin or glory awaited her.
Both were uncertain.
The future──destiny, was not yet decided.
Her actions would determine it.
“Then, I will seize the future. I will survive──even if it means destroying others.”
Electra reaffirmed her resolve.
Even if her opponent possessed god-like powers.
She would fight and win──.
Some time passed.
That day, in a town’s open-air bath, Electra encountered two adventurers.
As foreseen.
They were the companions of the boy she would eventually face──a holder of divine skills.
(I’ve found them…!)
Electra, unabashedly exposing her bare white body, slowly approached.
She saw two silhouettes ahead.
One was a cool girl with short blue hair.
The other was a lively girl with long purple hair.
Though different in type, both were breathtakingly beautiful.
Using her skill, she glimpsed into their pasts.
A girl who awakened her potential and became the strongest knight after living as an ordinary village girl.
And a girl who inherited legendary assassination techniques in a distant eastern land.
“May I have a moment? I saw you and thought you’d be interesting.”
Approaching under the pretense of reading their fortunes, Electra proceeded with her planned actions.
“──[Maneuver: Fortune Bell].”
A three-faced, six-armed pattern appeared on her chest.
Her vision shifted simultaneously.
She saw the next few seconds of the future.
How Luca and Sarome would move.
How they would respond to Electra’s actions.
Everything was visible.
“Come forth, my servants──[Summon Elemental].”
With a spell, a faint glow appeared behind Electra.
From the glow, three silhouettes emerged.
A tiger with wings.
A woman wielding two swords.
A giant with a body of trees.
These were spirits, beings said to inhabit the ‘realm of fantasy’ close to the world of gods and demons.
Electra had summoned and enslaved them.
“A summoner──!?”
Luca furrowed her brows slightly.
“But do you think you can win against the two of us?”
Sarome remained cautiously poised.
Having seen their pasts, Electra knew they both had special abilities.
Luca mainly had speed-enhancing abilities, while Sarome excelled in stealth.
But neither──.
“Can defeat me.”
Indeed, no one could win against Electra.
“Because I can see the future. I know all your moves. You can’t catch me off guard; everything is in my grasp──thus, I am invincible.”
“Talking nonsense.”
Luca braced herself.
And──vanished.
Utilizing her super-speed ability.
“In one second, she’ll appear to my right rear.”
“What!?”
The spirit’s attack struck Luca directly.
“Too fast──how…?”
“You’re mistaken. It’s not about ‘speed’. Speed is meaningless. I simply struck the point where you were ‘going to appear’.”
“What was that…?”
“Interesting, you chose to retreat. A cool-headed decision.”
She placed a new spirit in Sarome’s path, who was attempting to withdraw.
“You temporarily abandon your comrade to regroup──that cold, rational judgment befits an assassin. Especially one taught by Elze. But it’s futile.”
Predicting Sarome’s movements perfectly, the spirits captured her.
Though both seemed highly skilled, it wasn’t even a contest.
Electra, who could foresee all their moves, was unbeatable.
Her only possible challenge would be against an irregular power──another divine skill holder.
After knocking the two out, Electra exhaled softly.
“Now, preparations are complete. Come quickly, Haruto Riva…”
Her vision displayed a scene.
Haruto arriving at the town’s fountain park.
And spirits attacking him from behind.
Before Haruto could deploy his skills, the spirits’ claws were upon him.
Even an invincible defense skill is meaningless if not activated.
“I am chosen by destiny──I will win.”
Electra smiled slightly.
