I, reincarnate as the leader of the villainous knight order

Chapter 98 - Chapter 98: The Civil Servant In Charge

Chapter 98: The Civil Servant In Charge

“Should the rooms be private, or should we arrange them like this dormitory with private rooms on the second floor and a large shared room on the third floor?”

“If it’s bothersome for the apprentices to be moving in and out of Basil and the others’ living area, we could partition the sides with walls and share only the facilities like the dining hall on the first floor. Jeanne’s room needs a bath, and it’s fine to give the dwarves individual baths too. If they prefer a larger bath, we can make one on the first floor. Also, please prepare a dining hall and a large communal bath for the apprentices. The location will be around the area visible from that window.”

It’s a bit harsh to expect the young apprentices to share the same bath with the bearded dwarves. They likely often enter the bath still reeking of alcohol.

“This is quite a spacious area. This will be a fulfilling project. The workshop will be the same as in the village, so there’s no excitement in the design, I’ll leave that to someone else. Well, now that we’ve decided on the general aspects, we’re all set. Shall we move to the temporary residence?”

“Understood. The mansion you’ll be staying in this time should be equipped to also serve as a guest house. It’s probably constructed with the latest technology of Rafios Kingdom. I hope the dwarves will enjoy it.”

“That sounds great! Let’s see how advanced human technology is!”

Jeanne and the dwarves climbed back into the carriage and finally headed for their lodging. There was a large garden that Jest would have liked, and a knight from the Second Knight Order stood at the gate. Even though they are treated as state guests, the First Knight Order wouldn’t be standing guard at the gate.

The gatekeeper knights quickly opened the gate upon seeing the First Knight Order who were acting as escorts. Jeanne and the ten dwarves would be the only ones staying in this rather large mansion, which also had a salon, hall, and even a separate area for the guards to stay.

Apparently, some people have said they will come if Basil and the others find it comfortable. However, the dwarves present here are top craftsmen who can handle Jeanne’s scales, making them some of the best artisans.

“Oh, this is quite an impressive mansion. With this garden, I can stretch my wings in my true form.”

“Ah, no, that would cause quite a commotion. It might be fine after it’s publicly known that Jeanne is a dragon.”

Jeanne made a suspicious comment while looking at the garden after getting off the carriage. Indeed, space wouldn’t be an issue here, but if a huge dragon suddenly appeared in the middle of the capital, it would cause a massive uproar. Even Jest’s size caused a stir, and Jeanne is much larger, which would lead to despair.

“Then, Master must publicly announce that I am your familiar. I wish to freely transform back and take walks in the sky with Jest someday. Will Master ride on my back?”

“Yes, if you promise not to drop me, I’d like to try flying with you.”

“Oh! Master seems to have little fear of the sky despite being human. It feels as if you have flown before, or is that just my imagination?”

“Well… even if you drop me, I feel reassured that Jest would rescue me. It would be even better if I had magic to fly on my own… but matching a dragon’s flight would be difficult even for a wind magic specialist.”

I’ve flown in airplanes several times, but I’ve never flown with just my body like in skydiving. I loved conquering all the thrill rides in amusement parks, so I think I’d enjoy riding on Jeanne.

“Wait, Master, does that mean you trust Jest more than me? While I’m happy you trust my child, I’d like you to trust me too!”

“Haha, of course, I don’t think Jeanne would intentionally drop me. But there’s always the chance of being caught in the wind or during a sharp turn, right?”

“Nuuu…”

“Hey, I want to see the inside already. Can we go in first?”

Basil, impatient, called out. Unlike Jeanne, he seemed more interested in the mansion built with the kingdom’s latest technology than the garden. At that moment, the front door opened.

“Welcome, we have been expecting you. I am Constans de Châteaubriand, the manager of this mansion. Please call me Constans.”

It seems he came out first because we didn’t announce our arrival. But his name does sound quite delicious.

(Note: In the culinary world, Châteaubriand is a term used for a particular cut of beef, typically the center cut of the tenderloin, and also refers to a specific method of preparation for this cut. It is often served with a rich sauce and is considered a high-quality and luxurious dish)

“Oh! Thank you for taking care of us!”

Basil greeted on behalf of everyone and entered the mansion. Alright, my job ends here. With that thought, I returned to the Third Knight Order’s dormitory, only to be told by a civil servant that I had orders to go to the mansion with the dwarves again tomorrow.

It seemed they wanted me to act as a liaison between the civil servants sent for the design and the dwarves. Wondering if I was the right choice for the job, I headed to the mansion the next day with Jest in tow. As I passed through the gate and approached the entrance, I saw a figure, probably the civil servant that’s in charge.

“Good morning, are you the civil servant in charge of the design?”

As I called out while dismounting from Eleanor, the man in the civil servant’s uniform turned around with a pale face. He was the same guy who had been paralyzed with fear after being glared at by Jeanne in the audience chamber yesterday.

…Yeah, it’s understandable why he wouldn’t have the courage to enter the mansion alone. That’s why they needed a liaison. After handing Eleanor over to the stable hand, I lightly patted the man’s shoulder and led the way into the mansion.
