Chapter 89 - Chapter 89: How to Spend a Holiday 1
Chapter 89: How to Spend a Holiday 1
“Well, we’ve got five days of rest. It seems like the First and Second Knights will take turns, but for us in the Third, everyone is free to rest,” I reported to my subordinates who had gathered for lunch back at our quarters.
They all seemed to be in high spirits, praising the arrangements made. After all, we had been engaged in daily battles with monsters immediately upon our return from the expedition.
“I know you all understand, but let’s not get too carried away. If I catch wind of any misconduct from any of you… you know?” I said with a smile, and although my tone was light, my intent seemed to have been conveyed as my subordinates nodded quietly but vigorously.
By the way, the vacation starts today, so it’s already underway. As soon as I finished conveying all the messages, they dispersed like scattered spiders.
“Those guys…”
“Hahaha, since the morning was filled with our usual training, it’s effectively only four and a half days of rest. What are you going to do next, Captain? Jest is probably in his room, but he might want to go out and have some fun unexpectedly,” Orel remarked with a wry smile, gazing towards the entrance through which everyone had left.
“In that case, I’ll ask Jest what he wants to do. First, I need to spend some time with him before Jest’s… his mother arrives in the capital. By the time the rest day ends, the Holy Knights and Saint will probably have arrived, and things will get busy,” I said, considering the situation.
“Right, until the new quarters are ready, we were going to let them stay in the royal family’s mansion, weren’t we?”
“Yeah, and even if we want to furnish it, it’ll take at least half a year no matter how fast we move. Since it needs to be within walking distance from the forge, it has to be in the noble district. Although taking care of Jeanne and the dwarves is a priority, once the quarters are ready, they’ll have dedicated servants, so we won’t need to worry about it,” I replied, weighing the options.
“In that case, we can rest assured that the apprentices won’t be neglected while we’re on expeditions,” Orel added, relieved.
“Yeah, well then, I’ll head back to my room,” I said, preparing to leave.
“Yes, Jest might be waiting impatiently. Good job today,” Orel said.
“Yeah.”
Returning to my room, Jest was fast asleep on the bed. It seemed like he was worn out.
“Jest… Jest? He’s out like a light,” I murmured, gently brushing Jest’s bangs, which looked just like my brother’s. Even the texture felt the same, I thought again.
After tidying up in formal wear with purification magic, I changed into roomwear and lay down next to Jest. As I listened to his regular breathing, indicating deep sleep, my consciousness gradually drifted away.
“…Tin, Justin, someone’s here!”
“Huh…? Who’s here?”
“I think it’s Simon and the others. Looks like all four members of Justin’s team are here.”
Rubbing my eyes and sitting up, it seemed to be around three in the afternoon judging by the position of the sun. Apparently, I had slept deeply without realizing it. A few seconds after getting out of bed, the door to my room was knocked on rather forcefully.
“Captain~! Are you there~?”
It was definitely Simon’s voice. Jest must have sensed their presence before they arrived and let me know. I thought Justin’s team members had left first, but it seems like they returned much earlier than expected.
“I’ll open it now.”
Although I wanted to sleep a bit more, now that Jest was awake, there was no choice but to get up. Opening the door, all four members of Justin’s team were gathered outside, just as Jest had said.
“What’s up? Weren’t you supposed to go out and have fun in the city? Don’t tell me… something happened that requires my attention?”
“Nope! Nothing like that! Look at this!” Simon exclaimed, pointing to a sack that Marius was holding.
Peering into it, I saw the ingredients for the sweets that I had planned to buy tomorrow or so.
“Didn’t you mention to me, Captain, that Jest was out of snacks on our way back to the capital? So, we went and bought them. Since we bought extra, you don’t mind making some for us too, right?” Arnault said with a smile.
They must have conspired to buy the sweets ingredient because they wanted to eat them, but it saved me the trouble of going shopping. Wait, could it be that they saw me making sweets before and checked the ingredients for this reason!?
“…Alright, I’ll cover the cost of the ingredients. How much was it?”
“No, no, no, Captain! Since we’ll be eating a lot too, let us handle it!” Simon hurriedly declined my offer.
Then he casually declared that they would eat a lot…
This should be something that can be made in large quantities easily, not something that requires a lot of effort.
“Alright then, I’ll take it. So… should you help out? Or should you keep Jest company? Oh, maybe you should train a bit more so you can eat a lot?”
“In that case, I’ll play with Jest!”
“Yay! Simon, what are we gonna play!?”
As expected, Simon was the first to jump into my room, probably eager to eat as soon as it’s ready.
“I’ll come back when it’s done because I want to tidy up my room and take care of my equipment a bit more.”
“Yeah, I need to tidy up my room too.”
Arnault and Gaspard quickly disappeared.
As I was about to take the ingredients, Marius, who remained, was still clutching the sack with shining eyes.
“I’ll help the Captain! I want to be able to make various things like the Captain!”
It seems that Marius knows he can taste the sweets before Simon if he helps out. I’d be happy if Marius could make them without me having to do it.
