Chapter 27 - The Gold Flow Team's Ancestor, Ravina(3)
Succubi are lustful and evil yokai.
They appear in men’s dreams to steal their vitality, and if they find a man they like, they turn him into an incubus or change his gender to female and make him into a succubus.
This was the perception humans had of Ravina’s race when she crossed over to this world, and there was nothing wrong with what they said.
Recently, she preferred doing it in reality rather than entering dreams, and she didn’t often turn humans into incubi or succubi because it was needlessly difficult, but in any case, it was true that her race did such things.
However, there was just one thing.
Among all the perceptions humans had about succubi, there was only one thing Ravina could not accept.
‘Succubi are weak?’
It was the prejudice that succubi as a race were significantly weaker compared to other yokai.
The biased perception that succubi only steal men’s vitality and are not strong in terms of force.
That one perception irritated Ravina, the Queen of Succubi, and she shattered everyone’s perception by establishing the Gold Flow Team as one of the Five Major Powers as proof of her demonstration.
Of course, ordinary humans didn’t know that Ravina was the ancestor of the Gold Flow Team, so she had only shattered it in her own mind, but even that was enough to satisfy Ravina.
‘We are monma (dream demons). Phantasmal yokai that freely traverse dreams.’
Succubi, which humans thought to be weak, were not weak at all in actual combat.
Rather, they were strong enough to win against most races in fights.
And there were two reasons why succubi were strong enough to easily defeat ordinary yokai like this.
One was the succubus’s body that could not be harmed either physically or magically.
The true form of succubi, phantasmal yokai, existed in dreams, and that place called dreams could only be entered by succubi and yokai who dealt with the mind.
Therefore, no matter what attack was made in reality, succubi did not feel pain nor take damage, and this could be proven by Shin-yeon’s attack that had just passed through Ravina’s body.
“Fire, wind.”
“Ahahahaha! You’ve been attacking continuously, right? But it’s all useless, isn’t it?”
Whoosh—!!
“Damn it…”
Shin-yeon’s flames, swollen by the wind, attacked Ravina, but they passed through her harmlessly without any effect.
Ravina’s body scattered like fireflies the moment the flames touched her, then gathered back to its original state.
And as Ravina burst into laughter nonchalantly, Shin-yeon spat out a curse, to which Ravina held out both hands and gathered the orbs of light she had been holding.
“Then it’s my turn now, right?!”
The second reason why succubi could defeat ordinary races:
“Try your best to block this!”
It was because of their powerful magic that surpassed the defense of most races.
Crackle—!!!
The gathered orbs of light emit a purple glow like Ravina’s eyes and friction as if about to burst at any moment.
As the orb was already like a small bomb just from that, Ravina fired the extended orb like a bullet without hesitation.
“Earth…!”
Immediately after, Ravina’s magic causes a massive explosion as it hits the rock wall Shin-yeon had raised.
Boooom—!!!
And when the smoke from the explosion cleared, what was revealed was Shin-yeon coughing amidst the horribly collapsed rock wall.
“Damn it… cough…!”
Shin-yeon, coughing up dust with her clothes torn here and there, as if she had blocked the direct hit with the rock wall but couldn’t block anything additional.
Meanwhile, seeing her holding her iron bat like a shield was so funny that Ravina slowly landed her body that had been flying low.
“Seeing how there’s not a speck of dirt on it even after that explosion, it seems to be a precious bat to you, but what can you do with such a thing?”
Anyway, it was confirmed that Shin-yeon’s attacks using the four elements could not harm Ravina herself.
Moreover, seeing that she didn’t enter the dream world, it seemed she didn’t have mental magic or abilities either.
Therefore, with nothing left to be wary of, Ravina landed in front of Shin-yeon, spitting out mockery, and grabbed the iron bat she was holding.
“Hng…!”
Creak—
She tried to pull the iron bat once, but it didn’t budge from Shin-yeon’s hand with a tremendous friction sound.
“Hmm… So you’re quite strong, huh?”
Ravina felt a bit embarrassed as she unexpectedly failed to snatch it despite being confident in her strength, but soon she mocked Shin-yeon’s appearance again, which could only be called brutish.
“But so what if you’re that strong? You can’t even lay a finger on me anyway, right?”
This punishment was too light a price for going against her orders head-on and acting so impudently.
After spitting out a few more contempts and mockeries like this, she would lay her at her feet, step on that face, and have her skin flayed.
And then she would clearly show who was superior to the General Management Team leader watching from afar over there.
A future that was thrilling just to imagine. Thinking it would feel even better than the vitality she had recently stolen, Ravina shivered.
“This bat… It can’t even harm me anyway!”
Therefore, Ravina brought down her hand engraved with magic onto the iron bat that Shin-yeon seemed to cherish, in order to hasten the confirmed future.
Clang—!
“Oh?”
Ravina’s face showed confusion at the sight of the iron bat, which was neither broken nor bent, but intact.
How could this mere iron bat withstand her magic?
Of course, she already knew that this bat was a strange object that could grow bigger or smaller.
It might have one or two simple spells on it.
However, she couldn’t help but be puzzled as she didn’t expect it to be without even a scratch even from her magic used at full power.
But unfortunately, there was no one to answer Ravina’s question.
Instead, what was heard was the voice of Shin-yeon, who was a mess covered in dust right in front of her.
“…You can consider it an honor. I thought it would never happen, but you’re the first to make me experience such a situation.”
What could she mean?
Was she saying this was the first person to attack her so one-sidedly like this? Or was she saying this was the first time she couldn’t land a proper attack?
However, Ravina could realize that the “situation” Shin-yeon mentioned was neither of those two she had thought of, by Shin-yeon’s action that occurred the next moment.
Clatter, clack—
Shin-yeon, putting her hand inside her half-torn jacket from the recent explosion, trying to take out something attached to her waist.
Ravina thought she should stop it, whatever it was, but for some reason, even though Shin-yeon was moving, she herself couldn’t budge.
A sensation as if a heavy hand was pressing down on her entire body, as if telling her to just watch.
And as she just stared at Shin-yeon, unable to breathe properly under that pressure, what Shin-yeon took out from around her waist was none other than a mask.
‘A stone mask…?’
Literally, a crudely made stone mask with no other way to describe it.
The stone mask, made to cover only the forehead and eye area, was emitting an unusual aura at a glance, and in Ravina’s gaze following Shin-yeon’s hand, Shin-yeon put on the mask she had taken out over her face.
Click—
The stone mask is put on Shin-yeon’s face with a sound like a puzzle piece fitting perfectly.
Without any straps, pins, or anything to fix the mask, it clung to Shin-yeon’s face, never falling off.
Flash—
“What is this…?”
And at the same time, Shin-yeon’s iron bat that Ravina’s hand had touched began to change its form, shining as if being scanned.
The silver bat that had undoubtedly been utterly ordinary gradually became painted in gold.
In addition, as if rejecting Ravina’s touch, black horns began to sprout, pushing back her transformed hand.
The fully transformed bat now appeared as a golden club with black horns protruding here and there.
Shin-yeon’s appearance wearing a crude stone mask and holding a strangely shaped club.
At that unfamiliar yet somehow memorable appearance, someone’s face flashed through Ravina’s mind.
“Putting on that mask reminds me of those bastards. Damn it… I thought I was finally starting to forget…”
But before Ravina could clearly picture the face that had come to mind, Shin-yeon’s voice, filled with anger, grabbed Ravina’s mind that was about to sink into contemplation.
“Hey.”
“Hik…?!”
Shin-yeon’s murderous gaze felt piercing through the mask.
At that ferocity, which could be said to be a completely different person from just moments ago, so utterly mad and raging, Ravina shrank back with her legs trembling, and just as she was about to move her body, freed from the pressure due to overwhelming fear.
“This won’t end nicely, so be prepared.”
Whack—!!!!!
Shin-yeon’s club, swung with one hand, struck Ravina’s abdomen with a magnificent sound.
“Guhk?!!”
Not a figurative expression, but literally struck.
It should have undoubtedly sliced through the air, yet it had struck the insubstantial illusion, hitting Ravina’s true form in the dream.
Something had gone wrong.
Ravina muttered so amidst the pain causing difficulty breathing, but this was, unfortunately, regret that came far too late.
The mercy that the great chief before her eyes had offered had long since disappeared far away.
Ravina only felt her vision blurring as she coughed up dark red blood.
