Chapter 255
Screecccch!
I swung my sword horizontally at the charging Shin Family Guards.
One Strike.
The skill imbued the sword with sharp energy, sending a wave of sword energy towards the guards.
Screecccch!
In perfect synchronization, they drew their swords and blocked the incoming sword energy.
“…”
The Shin Family Guards paused, seemingly taken aback by the exchange.
I let out a small laugh.
‘Why, are you going to run away because you think you can’t win?’
I knew their combat style.
They only engaged when they were certain they could take their target down.
If they thought they couldn’t, they would retreat.
They would only sacrifice themselves to protect Shin Do-hwa.
Obviously, they must have realized that I was stronger than they anticipated and were planning to retreat to protect Do-hwa.
But I wasn’t going to let them get away.
In fact, that was exactly what I intended when I used the one-slash-two-cuts skill.
“I’ll take care of the Shin Family Guards.”
“Huh?! What, what do you mean?”
Shin Se-hee responded with a surprised voice from behind.
“I know, they’re not ordinary opponents.”
“…”
“But if I take them on alone, they’ll follow. We can’t afford to let them escape.”
“But…!”
The party members seemed taken aback by my sudden announcement, but I had made up my mind the moment those guards appeared before me.
I would face them alone.
“You saw that, right? they know they can’t take on all of us at once. But if I face them alone, it’ll be a fair fight, won’t it?”
I said with a casual tone to the guards who were hesitating.
They glanced at each other and then nodded slightly.
Kick.
“Then, follow me.”
Thud!
“J, Jin Yuha!!! W, what are you—!”
As I took off, the Shin Family Guards followed close behind.
.
.
.
Suddenly, Jin Yuha disappeared with the Shin Family Guards in tow, leaving Shin Se-hee alone.
She stiffened, her face hardening.
‘What do I do now? What should I…’
Jin Yuha had told her to leave it to him, but she couldn’t shake off the worry that was building inside her.
Who were the Shin Family Guards?
Humans, but not quite human.
They were combat dolls created by the Shin Family, renowned for their 100% mission success rate.
They had undergone countless modifications that a normal human body couldn’t endure, and they would even sacrifice their lives to carry out Shin Do-hwa’s orders.
Even the strongest human would be helpless against assassins who disregarded their own lives.
Moreover, their decision-making abilities surpassed that of humans.
The fact that they followed Jin Yuha meant that they had calculated that they could win against him.
‘And… considering the Chimeras we encountered on the way here, they must be even stronger than I thought…’
Her clenched hands were damp with sweat.
Just then—
“Hey, Flower Girl.”
“Huh? Y, Yes, Kang Do-hee?”
“Your worries are pointless.”
“W, What do you mean…?”
Kang Do-hee’s sharp voice cut off Shin Se-hee’s rebuttal.
“No, you don’t understand. You weren’t part of the battle.”
Kang Do-hee bit her lip, a hint of frustration in her voice.
“That guy… He’s far stronger than all of us combined.”
“…”
“So, I’m really pissed off.”
Kang Do-hee strode forward, her steps heavy.
Fwoosh!
Red mana began to rise like a mirage around her body.
“The fact that that Little Fool still considers me a burden… That he left me behind again… It pisses me off to no end.”
Kang Do-hee seethed with anger.
“I feel incredibly annoyed.”
However, Liu Jin, standing alone on the opposite side, was equally furious.
‘Who are these guys? Oh right, they’re that group that’s been making noise in Korea lately. Utopia, that’s their name, right…?’
The boy who had been running his mouth earlier—she recognized his face, as he had been making headlines recently.
‘Yes, they must be here on Shasha Fong’s request.’
Twitch.
Liu Jin’s thick eyelids twitched.
But the real reason for her anger wasn’t because of Shasha Fong or Utopia’s intrusion.
‘I could snap the necks of these brats like a chicken…’
It was a matter of pride.
The Shin Family Guards, assigned to her by Shin Do-hwa, were supposed to protect her and obey her commands.
Yet, they had blatantly ignored her orders and slipped away.
She felt an indescribable sense of humiliation.
‘This is why I shouldn’t get involved with bread-eating bitches!!!’
She regretted accepting that proposal long ago, and never had that regret been as intense as it was now.
“I’m in a really bad mood right now. So, you guys will have to be my punching bags. After all, you’re Koreans just like that bitch.”
She spoke through gritted teeth, her voice laced with suppressed anger.
“Oh, that’s good.”
“Huh?”
“I feel the same way.”
Kang Do-hee twisted her neck with a loud crack and looked at Liu Jin.
“Hmm, you’re not enough to take out my anger on. You’ll do as a punching bag, though.”
Liu Jin grit her teeth.
“All talk.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she swung the sword in her hand at Do-hee.
Screecccch!
The sword sliced through the air.
Yoo-ri tried to intervene and block the attack with her shield, but Do-hee shouted.
“Stay out of this!!!!”
Do-hee stretched out her right hand to catch the incoming sword.
Crack!
The blade was gripped tightly in her hand.
Thud!
Thud!
The blade sank into her hand, and droplets of blood fell to the floor.
“Wha, what…?”
Liu Jin was taken aback by Do-hee’s reckless move, and before she could react, Do-hee punched her squarely in the stomach.
“Ugh!”
Liu Jin’s massive body folded like a capital ‘G’.
Do-hee spat out, loud enough for everyone to hear.
“This bitch is mine.”
“You crazy bitch…”
Liu Jin’s veins popped out as she glared at Do-hee, still clutching her stomach.
“Get up. I don’t believe this is all you’ve got.”
Do-hee said coldly.
.
.
.
Thud!
With each step, the surroundings flashed by.
‘Hmm, so this is how it’s going to play out, huh?’
I lowered my gaze as I headed towards an empty lot, away from prying eyes.
‘Originally, it’s not these guys but Shasha Fong’s father who shows up here with Liu Jin in the game…’
However, it was the Shin Family Guards who appeared instead.
It wasn’t a bad sign.
It meant that Ga-eul had charged Shasha’s father’s stone, messing up Shin Do-hwa’s experiment.
‘As expected, this way, the damage can be minimized.’
The reason I lured the Shin Family Guards here separately was so that not a single one of them could escape.
In the original game, Velvets, these guys were a problem.
In this scenario, the final boss, Shin Do-hwa, faces off against the player alongside the Shin Family Guards.
While Do-hwa is quite strong, and the guards are annoying, they are no match for veteran players who have strengthened their characters through gacha draws.
So, when the characters controlled by the players are about to defeat Do-hwa, she gives a desperate order to her fallen guards.
“- …Do you think I will stand by and watch as the Shin Family’s ambitions crumble so pathetically? Rise, my guards, rise and release all the Chimeras!!!”
The defeated Shin Family Guards get back up and release the Chimeras that were being held underground.
Not the half-baked Chimeras we’ve dealt with so far, but the real deal.
‘And from then on, Shin Family Chimeras start appearing among the enemies we face…’
From the game company’s perspective, it made sense.
It was an attempt to alleviate the boredom of players who were tired of fighting only demons and monsters, by introducing new enemies.
A sort of consideration, if you will.
When I was a gamer, I actually welcomed the change as it added variety to the enemies I faced.
‘The problem is, this is no longer a game.’
If those Chimeras were released into the world, it would bring yet another horrifying disaster upon the people living here.
That’s why these guys had to be finished off here and now.
Tap.
I stopped in the empty lot, away from prying eyes, and turned around.
Ten expressionless dolls, cloaked in black, stood before me.
“I’m sorry, but not a single one of you will make it out of here alive.”
I pointed my sword at them.
“This is your end.”
