I Am Honkai

Chapter 42: The King's Avatar: Selene

Under the tremendous pressure, the brown-haired man let out a pitiful scream, on the verge of being crushed to death.

"Selene-senpai, please stop, don't kill him!" Shirai Kuroko finally realized the situation and quickly addressed Selene, who was sitting on the bench.

Because of Kuroko's plea, Selene ordered her guardian knight to stop. As the enormous figure disappeared, the robber fell heavily to the ground.

He rolled his eyes and passed out.

To be honest, Selene was disgusted by the brown-haired robber's actions. Unlike the other two, this man was truly despicable—using innocent bystanders as a means to escape and now attempting to kidnap a child as a hostage.

Each act was heinous, especially the latter. Regardless of whether it's domestic or international, harming, abusing, or trafficking children is always severely punished.

Selene hadn't planned on intervening, wanting to see if she could witness Railgun in action.

But seeing the robber trying to snatch the child from Saten Ruiko, Selene was suddenly enraged.

Noticing the murderous look in Selene's eyes, the man pinned at Shirai Kuroko's feet screamed in terror, a flicker of fear in his eyes, "I remember now!"

There was deep fear in the man's voice, "She... she's Tokiwadai's first-ranked. Rumor has it that the first-ranked is extremely violent, and those who provoke her end up dead or crippled..."

"So, give up," Shirai Kuroko said meaningfully, "If we hadn't happened to be here today, you might all be dead... You know, Selene-senpai isn't as lenient as we in Judgement are..."

Later, the actual guards finally arrived.

After explaining the situation to the guards, Shirai Kuroko immediately began lecturing Selene.

"While we appreciate Senpai's help, almost crushing him to death is too much, right? It causes problems for our work in Judgement."

"Okay, okay, I'll be careful next time." But judging from Selene's demeanor, Kuroko knew she hadn't really taken it in, sighing helplessly, "Really, Onee-sama is like this, and Selene-senpai is like this too. It's so..."

With the crepe shop's street incident concluded, the group finally headed to their ultimate destination—the arcade.

Selene certainly wouldn't back down from Misaka Mikoto's provocative invitation.

"Let's go." Although she didn't get to witness Railgun in action, Selene wasn't about to miss the chance to tease Misaka.

"I'm pretty good at games too, so don't cry when you lose."

"Hmph, we'll see who cries. I'm quite good at various games," Misaka Mikoto replied, rolling up her sleeves to appear formidable.

...

"Looks like you're struggling, Misaka~!"

"That was just the first round, testing my hand. Now comes the real skill."

...

"Yay! I won again, just by a little~ Misaka~"

"Darn it! Again!"

...

"Want to keep going, Misaka~?"

"Ugh! One more time! I don't believe it!"

...

"I can't accept it. I lost with just a sliver of health!" At the end, Misaka knelt beside the machine in defeat, exuding a despondent aura.

Seeing this scene, the crafty Shirai Kuroko had an idea. If she could win a match, then Onee-sama would see how good Kuroko is and then... hehe~ hehe~, ha... ah~ ah~!

With such thoughts, Shirai Kuroko's smile turned sinister, letting out a creepy laugh.

"Leave it to Kuroko now. I will bring victory to Onee-sama!" Shirai Kuroko declared confidently to Misaka Mikoto.

She volunteered to replace the dejected Misaka Mikoto in a "battle" against Selene.

But the result...

"Ahhhhh!!!"

A sound akin to a pig being slaughtered echoed, so loud and miserable it brought tears to listeners' eyes.

A reddish-brown twin-tailed girl sat on her knees like a duck, eyes vacant and tears streaming, mumbling frantically, "Kuroko's... Kuroko's dream is shattered..."

"Uh, isn't that an exaggeration? It's just a game."

On Selene's arcade screen, "Victory" was prominently displayed, but a glance at both players' health and mana bars revealed the complexity of the situation.

"Was I too harsh?" Concerned, Selene approached to comfort her. "I'm full health, you're full mana, let's call it a tie."

But the consolation seemed ineffective...

With a helpless expression, Selene, looking "invincible," slowly stood up, stretching a little. Though each match ended quickly, the relentless challenges were exhausting, and Selene felt a hint of fatigue.

"Wow! Ten straight losses. I didn't expect Selene-senpai to be so good at this," Uiharu Kazari remarked, having watched the impressive string of battles without playing herself. "Though it might have been a bit much."

Misaka-senpai had some ability to cope, but once Shirai joined in... wow... it was too harsh.

"Onee-sama, Kuroko needs the warmth of love..."

Having snapped out of it, Shirai Kuroko leapt up, clinging to Misaka Mikoto like a koala and groping around.

"Ah, Kuroko, get off me! We're in public; what do you think you're doing?"

"Ahhh~! Kuroko's love for Onee-sama will never change, ah~ ah~!"

Sensing the situation turning awkward, Selene quickly activated a barrier, enclosing the two in their antics. We can't let Misaka Mikoto break anything.

Sure enough, with a burst of blue light and the sound of crackling electricity, accompanied by Kuroko's increasingly excited moans, they drew the attention of nearby gamers.

"Onee-sama~! Ah~ ah~!"

The stares from those around them left Selene feeling awkward; she didn't want to be labeled a pervert. "Hey, Saten, Uiharu, let's get out of here."

"...Oh... okay."

After dispersing the barrier, the three pretended not to know the other two, hurriedly slipping out of the arcade.

At this point, Misaka Mikoto, who had zapped Kuroko to the ground, noticed the strange looks from others. Her cheeks visibly reddened.

Just as she was about to question them, she realized Selene and the others had vanished. With a cry of embarrassment, she grabbed her bag and, ignoring Kuroko writhing on the floor, hurriedly ran out.

"Wuh, Onee-sama, wait for me..."
