Horror revival: I Own a Ghost Bus

Chapter 25: Chapter 25: The Ghost Advances

With the shrine's wall proving impossible to scale through physical means, Jiang Yan had no choice but to try breaking through with his ghost domain.

He stepped up to the wall and, with a thought, activated the ghost domain of the Ghost Bus.

A hazy yellow glow spread out, enveloping the three of them, then expanded into a band of light several meters wide, stretching toward the wall.

But as soon as it made contact, the ghost domain came to an abrupt halt. Jiang Yan's brow furrowed.

"This wall can actually block my first-tier ghost domain."

With no other options, he intensified his ghost domain to the second tier.

Instantly, the domain's light doubled in brightness, though the strain on Jiang Yan grew proportionally. His heartbeat thundered like an engine, and his limbs felt on the verge of tearing apart.

Fortunately, after having absorbed the Ghost TV earlier, the Ghost Bus's resurrection had been partially suppressed, allowing Jiang Yan to sustain his ghost domain for a longer period. Even so, the time was limited—three minutes at most.

"If only I could solve this resurrection issue, then I could use the ghost domain indefinitely," Jiang Yan thought, a touch frustrated.

Initially, he'd hoped that mastering the Ghost TV would create a balance, but the process had proven more complicated than expected.

"Getting a second ghost under control is still a long way off. I need to focus on what's in front of me."

Returning to the present, Jiang Yan focused on pushing his ghost domain forward. Despite the increased intensity, it still couldn't breach the shrine's wall but was slowly corroding it.

At this rate, the ghost domain would break through in about a minute.

Under the domain's erosion, the gray cement wall visibly thinned.

"It's working!" The man in the black hat exclaimed in excitement as he noticed the wall beginning to wear away.

But at that moment, the sound of shuffling footsteps echoed from around the corner, startling them.

Turning, they saw a frail old man hobbling toward them with a cane.

"Oh no, the Disguised Ghost is here!" Feng An cried out, panicked. But as the words left his mouth, he froze, realizing his mistake.

Jiang Yan and the man in the black hat stared at him in horror, fear filling their eyes.

Finally, Feng An realized the gravity of his slip-up. His outburst had exposed the Disguised Ghost's identity—triggering its killing rule.

In his shock, Feng An hadn't thought as cautiously as Jiang Yan and the man in the black hat. His lack of familiarity with the Disguised Ghost led to his careless slip.

"Damn it… but we're pretty far away. It probably didn't hear me, right?" Feng An said, his voice trembling, clinging to a faint hope.

"I don't know," Jiang Yan replied warily, his eyes fixed on the advancing village chief.

The ghost domain was close to breaching the wall, and leaving now would waste all their efforts.

On the wide, withered grass, the village chief shuffled along the wall, step by step. With each step, a piece of his skin peeled away, revealing raw, blood-red muscle beneath.

"How much longer? That thing's getting close!" The man in the black hat's voice trembled as he watched the advancing figure.

"Hurry up! I can feel his killing intent!" Feng An's fear was palpable. All his lingering hopes vanished as he took in the village chief's grotesque transformation. His words had clearly triggered the ghost's killing rule.

"About thirty seconds," Jiang Yan gritted out, sweat streaming down his face. He had pushed the ghost domain to its limit, but strangely, the deeper it eroded the wall, the slower it went.

Meanwhile, the village chief closed to within five meters of them. At this distance, they could make out his horrifying appearance in stark detail.

This was no longer the old village chief but a rotting, blood-soaked corpse.

"So, this is the true form of the Disguised Ghost?" Jiang Yan was horrified as he stared at the bloodied corpse, unable to believe he'd once spent a night sleeping beside this creature.

In a blink, the Disguised Ghost had reached the edge of the ghost domain. Blood dripped from its crimson face as it stared at them silently.

Without a moment's hesitation, it stepped into Jiang Yan's second-tier ghost domain.

"No… it's entering the domain!" Jiang Yan was stunned. His second-tier ghost domain had previously driven the Disguised Ghost back. But that was before they had triggered its killing rule.

Apparently, once the killing rule was activated, the Disguised Ghost's power increased dramatically.

Upon entering the ghost domain, the Disguised Ghost paused briefly, then took another step. Although its pace slowed by half, it continued forward.

In a matter of breaths, the Disguised Ghost was upon them, bringing with it a suffocating stench of blood.

Their hairs stood on end, and they realized they would have to face this ghost head-on.

As they hesitated, the Disguised Ghost suddenly stopped, turning its hollow, empty gaze directly on Feng An.

"So, it's after me…" Feng An's heart pounded. Although he was new to his position as head officer in Dachuan City, he knew he couldn't go down without a fight.

Summoning his courage, he activated his ghost ability, preparing to confront the Disguised Ghost head-on.

"You're not taking me that easily!"

With a roar, Feng An activated his Ghost Skin to its limit, his body hardened with corpse spots and bursting with power.

"Take this!"

He lunged forward, landing a heavy punch to the Disguised Ghost's abdomen, tearing a bloody hole straight through its body.

In Feng An's experience, physical damage could usually weaken most ghosts, and he had defeated several strong ghosts using brute force alone.

But this time, his tactic seemed to have no effect.

As he stared at the Disguised Ghost's grisly, twisted face, Feng An realized it hadn't weakened in the slightest.

"Damn it!"

He struck again, this time aiming for its head. His punch sent the Disguised Ghost's head flying, rolling across the ground before it finally stopped. But as he watched, the head slowly righted itself, and its lifeless eyes turned back to fix on him.

"What… how is this possible?" Feng An's shock turned to horror. Despite the damage, the ghost showed no signs of suppression.

Then he felt a chilling sensation in his feet. Glancing down, he was horrified to see his legs turning a bloody, pulpy red.

At the same time, he noticed his original feet now attached to the Disguised Ghost's body.

"No! Help me! This ghost is replacing me!" Feng An screamed in terror.

Seeing Feng An in such dire straits, the man in the black hat quickly moved to assist. He activated his ghost windbreaker, attempting to bind the bloodied corpse and suppress it.

The ghost windbreaker's power did indeed slow down the process of Feng An's transformation, though only slightly.

But as soon as the coat touched the Disguised Ghost, the man in the black hat felt a strange sensation. It was as if part of his control over the windbreaker was slipping away.

"This is bad! It's consuming my ghost windbreaker!" he yelled in alarm.

Jiang Yan, watching, was equally shocked. The Disguised Ghost's power was far more fearsome than he'd anticipated—it could replace Feng An without even making physical contact.

And any attempt to touch it would only lead to assimilation.

They all realized that their combined strength wasn't enough to counter this ghost. The only option left was to run.

Meanwhile, the ghost domain was almost through the wall—just ten seconds more, and they'd be able to break through…
