Chapter 400: Chapter 400: Kneeling for the Goddess
This world has never been short of ambitious individuals, and women are no exception. Lois Lane is a prime example; she came extremely close to uncovering Clark Kent's true identity as Superman, spending vast amounts of time and effort to learn about Superman's Earthly identity. After Superman's fierce battle with Fiona was exposed, it was undoubtedly the best opportunity for an ambitious journalist seeking to make a name for herself.
Lois Lane revealed the true identities of Superman and his adoptive parents, which caused a huge stir. The individuals she exposed fell into endless troubles.
Countless people stormed the Kent family farm. Anger and insults were inevitable, and attacks were unavoidable. At a critical moment, the military arrived just in time to prevent the situation from escalating irreversibly.
The military, not entirely incompetent, included discerning individuals. A black general persuaded Martha to convince Superman to cooperate with the U.S. government...
The government, the public, Superman, the victims... the attitudes of all parties appeared one after another on the big screen.
Superman and Fiona's battle saved many but also led to many deaths. The media and TV stations' stance on Superman was very clear—murderer!
However, Superman was currently too busy to care about these opinions. After some investigation, he found Lex Luthor, who was using Kryptonian technology and Fiona's corpse, obtained from the military, for various experiments.
Lex Luthor was aware of many forces on Earth unknown to mankind. He believed that humanity must evolve, and thus, he sought to use Kryptonian technology for a revolutionary breakthrough.
Nevertheless, he was ultimately a human and not a Kryptonian capable of fully controlling the spaceship. The experiment went seriously wrong. While Lex Luthor and Superman were discussing societal and evolutionary issues, a powerful monster combining human, Kryptonian, and other mysterious elements was born.
"Today is the day you and all monsters will be destroyed!"
Lex Luthor's experiment was not without reason; he had long known of beings on Earth that exceeded human understanding.
The battle between Superman and Doomsday erupted, and the battlefield was the commercial district where Lex Luthor's research center was located.
This was a growing battle scene for Superman.
"No action scene in any film has ever reached this level!" Daisy watched, completely astonished. "This is like the destructive power of a nuclear bomb."
On the screen, the ugly and terrifying Doomsday knocked down Superman, grabbed his foot, and threw him away. The camera followed the flying Superman to a stretch where Superman crashed into a distant building, shattering all its windows, which then showed a spiderweb of cracks.
Superman smashed directly through the wall, pierced the entire building, and hit another building behind it. The top half of the front building collapsed thunderously, and the rear building also shattered, with numerous building fragments falling down.
Superman fell, creating a huge hole in the ground and temporarily became unresponsive.
On the other side, Doomsday wreaked havoc, drawing attacks from the U.S. military. Over a dozen armed helicopters surrounded Doomsday, firing machine guns and rockets as if they cost nothing. Doomsday was not injured at all but instead became even stronger, releasing a massive shockwave...
The camera followed the shockwave to a live broadcast on TV. Diana Prince stood in front of her TV in her Metropolis apartment. Seeing the live broadcast disappear, she decisively entered a room, picked up a large bag, and walked out of the apartment.
Doomsday evolved, easily wiping out the surrounding U.S. military. As he stood roaring atop the Lex Luthor building, Superman charged from below, carrying Doomsday into space.
Then, the most satisfying nuclear missile launch in movie history occurred.
Unlike any previous Hollywood movie, the U.S. military and federal government cleanly launched a nuclear missile at Superman and Doomsday in space.
Doomsday crashed back to Earth, landing in Metropolis, while Superman was unresponsive...
The U.S. military discovered a horrifying fact: with every hit from a heat weapon, Doomsday would evolve, as if living off the energy.
The nuclear missile did not kill Doomsday but instead made it enter a completely berserk state. Doomsday charged through Metropolis, firing shockwaves repeatedly. The high-rise buildings of Metropolis were no better than paper in its presence, one after another destroyed.
Doomsday approached the "Daily Planet" building and fired another heat ray, which was blocked by a figure descending from the sky.
Then, Wonder Woman reappeared, but this time, unlike before, she shed her robe to reveal an ancient Hoplite armor.
Accompanied by Wonder Woman's appearance was a segment of intense electronic background music. The rhythm was tight, and combined with the on-screen image of Wonder Woman in battle attire, it easily stirred the audience's emotions.
The camera shifted to space, where under the continuous rays of the yellow sun, Superman
suddenly opened his eyes, his shriveled body returning to normal...
On the ground, Wonder Woman had already begun a battle with Doomsday not inferior to the one she had with Superman.
The buildings of Metropolis were simply no match for them.
Despite having seen the preview before, Doug's emotions surged again at the sight of Wonder Woman. Her appearance was simply too thrilling—clad in minimal armor, wielding a shield and sword, descending from the sky, appearing right in front of them...
Indeed, this Wonder Woman was slightly less busty, but those long legs were strikingly noticeable.
This feeling wasn't unique to male spectators; young girls like Daisy also felt a sudden envy of Murphy, feeling a potential shift in their orientation.
At that moment, across North America, countless audiences in theaters showing "Man of Steel" cheered for this Wonder Woman.
"The goddess's battle mode with its own BGM makes me want to kneel... Ah! Ah! Ah! Screaming for the Justice League!"
"This Israeli lady holding a shield is simply stunning!"
Those who had previously fiercely criticized Gal Gadot for portraying Wonder Woman instantly changed their stance.
"This is definitely the best Wonder Woman ever!"
"Fighting and smiling, endlessly charming, perfectly reflecting Wonder Woman's warrior spirit!"
"Murphy chose Gal Gadot not because she's his girlfriend, but because Gal Gadot is so suitable for this role!"
Although Wonder Woman's methods of attracting the audience on the screen seemed somewhat rudimentary, Roger Ebert, watching the character, continually nodded in approval. The movie's special effects were a bit over the top, but it was still restrained, and this Wonder Woman was like the icing on the cake. If he had previously given this film an eight out of ten, now he could definitely give it a nine!
Yes, that extra point was solely for Wonder Woman!
With Wonder Woman's help, Superman returned to Metropolis and joined the battle against Doomsday.
The film's dark style and sharp action scenes were undoubtedly the most attractive factors for the audience now.
A summer blockbuster, regardless of its theme, must push the visual and auditory effects of its action scenes to the extreme. With the audience's appetite whetted by early promotions, their main focus was certainly on the action scenes.
This action scene with Superman and Wonder Woman vs. Doomsday could only be described as earth-shattering.
It is no exaggeration to say that, whether in the history of Hollywood superhero movies or in sci-fi action films, no one has ever used such destructive camera work to display the action scenes of a few characters.
"Action scenes, no matter what, will give it full marks." Roger Ebert picked up his pen and quickly scribbled in his notebook, "This time Murphy Stanton and 'Deadpool' are different, not playing with slow motion, the fighting is about speed and destruction."
His partner, Richard Lope, knew Roger Ebert's thoughts well and whispered, "Although the action scenes are a new attempt, Murphy did very well, taking the sci-fi fight visual effects to another level. Besides needing lots of special effects and explosions, the use of the camera and narration is also important. Murphy did well in this area. Superman's fighting speed is so fast that it might be hard to see clearly or feel the impact of the punches, but the director skillfully uses the camera and sideline destruction to let people see and feel the fierceness and impact of the fighting. Superman also looks even cooler."
The movie's action scenes were nearing their end, and in a beam struggle between Superman and Doomsday, a building labeled Wayne Tower was accidentally damaged and collapsed thunderously.
"Is this setting the stage for Batman's appearance?"
Even for those not very familiar with DC Comics, seeing the name Wayne would likely lead them to think of Batman.
A novice Superman and a seasoned Wonder Woman, though they suffered greatly at the hands of Doomsday, were not without the ability to strike back. After turning half of Metropolis into rubble, Wonder Woman finally used her Lasso of Truth to bind Doomsday, while Superman dealt the fatal blow.
With Wonder Woman's assistance, he flew above Doomsday's head, twisted off the head of this failed Lex Luthor experiment, and was also injured by Doomsday's dying counterattack. However, with Wonder Woman's help, he successfully left Metropolis.
Metropolis returned to its peaceful state, leaving behind only ruins and the uneasy ordinary citizens.
As the battle ended, the movie also came to a close. Lex Luthor was arrested by the federal government and thrown into prison, while Metropolis began to heal its wounds.
A segment played in the style of a documentary appeared on the big screen, with a TV station revealing a federal government report on the Battle of Metropolis.
"Approximately 130,000 people will become cannon fodder in this battle, with an additional 250,000 missing and over one million injured. The casualties are equivalent to a 20-kiloton nuclear bomb airburst, with
direct physical losses exceeding 750 billion dollars..."
