CHAPTER 71: Alone
The Goddess of Death was in front of me, only her head was not bound but I could still see from time to time her powers that were glowing with the color of green trying to destroy the golden chains that were binding her but to no avail.
I didn't know how to answer her question. Seriously how do I answer the question 'how I got here if even I didn't know how I got here in the first place'. I blame the stupid Tesseract for this, anyway better be honest at least.
"I don't know", I said to her.
"hmmmm....secretive I see", Hela said.
I wanted to talk back to her when I suddenly felt something.
As a sage, I was able to learn a new ability, similar to Naruto's negative emotion-sensing, I was also able to sense emotions. One upside to this ability is that I could use this skill even if I didn't have a speck of nature chakra in my body, yet weaker if not in sage mode. Only now did I realize that I could also use this ability in my astral form, which is neat.
I accidentally sense the raw emotions that were coming from Hela. I could feel her anger, sadness, pain, loss, loneliness, rage, misery, indignance, and many more negative emotions.
Sure, if it was me being bound for centuries I would certainly feel the same emotions as her. Her father imprisoned her due to her 'war freak' nature to conquer everything in her path.
"You're sad", I said without thinking. Only when the words were out of my mouth did I realize what I said.
Hela became wide-eyed when she heard this. It was soon replaced with anger as she tried to flare her powers. I believe she wanted to kill, I really did not want to find out if she could kill me even if I was in my astral form.
"AH!!", Hela screams as her bindings became incredibly tighter resulting in her not being able to unleash her power at me. After one minute perhaps, her binding began to loosen up, enough for her not to scream in pain.
"I'm sorry, I did not intend for that to happen", I said to her.
When you look at her perspective, you can definitely say that what Odin is doing is unfair. True, she killed multiple people, some of them were even Asgardians when she tried to usurped her father's rule. But all these things can be indirectly be stated as Odin's fault.
Why? Odin Borson was the one who trained her since she was young. As a child, you would idolize your parents, in Hela's case, she would definitely idolize her father. She did what her father wanted her to become, a blade to kill all of her father's enemies. She would have spent years becoming powerful just so she could stand on her father's side, just so her father would be please with..... Just so her father would love her.
Then after conquering the nine realms, her father had a change of heart and decided that he did not want to conquer any more worlds. This probably broke her, I really believe that she felt betrayed by her father's decision. Her father trained her to become a weapon, a Goddess of Death, yet there he was declaring peace because he wanted no more territories.
What would you then? All your life you trained for one purpose, a purpose you did dutifully but then in an instant, you became obsolete. You were told to no longer be a weapon, to no longer be who you are. What would you do then?
I'm sure she questioned her purpose in the past after King Odin became a peace-loving king. But she could not handle it and tried to take her father's place, which led to this predicament she is in now.
"Did you come here to mock me, mortal", Hela said with spite in her voice.
"It was never my intention. I'm sorry", I replied.
"If only I was not bound then I will have killed you where you stand for your disrespect", Hela said.
"Yeah...you probably would", I said in reply.
There was a hush silence between us, and then slowly Hela's anger vanish and it was replaced by confusion, and she said, "You are touch by death".
I became surprised when I heard this. Did she somehow know that I am currently living my second life or did she refer to my Phantoms, my reanimated corpses that I can control? I don't really know how to respond to that actually.
"You are becoming more interesting the more time you spend here", Hela said with a smile on her face.
"...Your...welcome, I guess?", I said to her. Then suddenly I heard something, a female voice was speaking to me. I look in my surroundings but I could not see where that voice was coming from.
"hmmm... I see someone is looking for you, maybe we can see each other again mortal", Hela said.
I didn't know what Hela meant by that when I suddenly felt a powerful force engulfing me and dragging me away.
Not long after Ethan left, a beam appeared in front of Hela. When the beam disappeared the figured of a man riding a horse could be seen. The man was one of the most powerful individuals in the cosmos, it was the All-Father himself, King Odin.
With Gungnir in one hand, the All-Father asked Hela, "Who was here?".
Hela with a smile on her face replied, "Hello father, it's nice to see you again. I would have really like to offer you something to eat but as you can see I am currently bound".
With a fierce look in Odin's eyes, he examined his daughter's chains and found out that no tampering was done on it. He opened his mouth to say something to his daughter but eventually decided not to. He tapped Gungnir in the ground and he was soon enveloped by a glowing beam of light.
As the beam vanishes, Hela was once again alone in her prison.
