Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Assassin Organization, Moon Worship Cult
The word "nickname" might not sound threatening or mysterious, but hunters knew what it represented.
It was the codename of extraordinary members within the same organization, and any wise hunter would make an effort to remember those nicknames.
Jack recognized the nickname "Beast King."
Jack sneered and said: "So, this is your disciple? Did you send him to investigate the guild? You're breaking the rules."
The old beggar quickly responded:
"I would never dare violate the guild's rules.
It's just that a kind-hearted girl caught my foolish disciple's eye, and in his ignorance, he's been infatuated, waiting outside the café for her without understanding the situation.
My disciple never intended to offend the guild, I beg you to spare him!"
A kind-hearted girl?
Jack began to piece together the story.
It seemed Jang Hyun had been infatuated with a girl at the café and had angered Alex in the process.
Jack found himself in a dilemma.
During his time working for Alex, he had grown accustomed to bloodshed and had long since lost his initial resistance to killing.
If it were anyone else, he would have killed them without a second thought.
But this was different, as another hunter was involved, and things had become complicated.
Killing the old beggar too? That wasn't an option.
Jack knew that every hunter was treasured by Alex, and mishandling the situation could offend him.
Besides, he wasn't certain if the old beggar had a super fruit ability or what talent he possessed, and he wasn't confident he could kill him.
Jack finally said: "Wait here."
With that, he began texting Alex.
The old beggar, grateful, said: "Thank you for your trouble!"
Jack received Alex's response, feeling reassured. He turned and said:
"Come with me. Someone wants to see you."
The old beggar nodded repeatedly, helping the pale-faced Jang Hyun to his feet. He grabbed Jang Hyun's broken arm and used his spiritual energy to reset it.
Jack watched this scene with interest.
"What a remarkable use of spiritual energy. The old man healed Jang Hyun's arm without using any supernatural abilities?"
At the same time, Jack thought to himself: "This old man is quite clever. He waited until he saw my attitude before healing Jang Hyun."
Though Jack's face was hidden behind a ghostly mask, the old beggar could sense that Jack's attitude had softened.
As they walked, the old beggar wondered who in the Mercenary Guild wanted to see him.
Could it be a high-ranking hunter? Or perhaps a demon-level hunter?
With a mix of apprehension and anxiety, he followed Jack with Jang Hyun in tow, making their way toward the old district.
The old beggar grew suspicious. This wasn't the path to Old Oak Café.
The old district was dark, the streetlights long since broken, and the authorities showed no interest in repairing them—perhaps they were too lazy to bother.
After about twenty minutes of walking, they reached a place where the lights brightened, with workers busy at a construction site.
Alex's Chinese-style garden was taking shape, and in about half a month, it would be complete.
They continued following Jack to the edge of the garden, stopping before a small courtyard with no signs of construction.
Jack said: "Go in. Whether you two survive depends on your luck.
Remember, don't lie. Answer whatever you're asked, and don't argue with him."
The old beggar could tell from Jack's tone that he had immense respect for the person inside, and he wondered who this important figure could be.
Grabbing Jang Hyun's hand tightly, the old beggar thanked Jack repeatedly, promising that if they survived, they would repay him well.
He knocked on the courtyard door and respectfully said: "I, Beast King, have brought my foolish disciple to confess our wrongdoings."
"Enter."
With permission granted, the old beggar nervously led Jang Hyun into the courtyard.
The two of them didn't dare to look around, but they could see a person reclining on a lounge chair, seemingly waiting for them.
The person wore a black tracksuit, a hood pulled over their head, and a crying ghost king mask covered their face.
The old beggar was in utter shock—it was the president himself!
He quickly pulled Jang Hyun down, kneeling with his old head pressed low to the ground: "My foolish disciple collided with the guild unintentionally, but his offense is unforgivable. I beg the president for punishment!"
Alex raised an eyebrow. What was this behavior?
This whole scene had the vibe of an old martial arts movie.
What Alex didn't realize was that some extraordinary organizations had a long history, and their rituals and customs often resembled those of ancient times.
Curious, Alex glanced at Jang Hyun's arm, which Jack had broken earlier, and asked the old beggar: "His arm is healed? That's not part of the talent I gave you. What's your original ability?"
The old beggar didn't dare lie and replied truthfully: "Reinforcement, B-rank."
Alex murmured to himself: "Reinforcement..."
The old beggar quickly added:
"The reinforcement talent cannot heal my disciple's arm. This is related to a spiritual technique I developed myself!"
"Spiritual technique"—this was a new term.
Could it be that without relying on innate abilities, one could use spiritual energy to perform extraordinary feats?
Alex stood up, stopping just ten centimeters in front of the old beggar, and asked with a lowered gaze:
"Who exactly are you, and why is there no information about you in my database?"
Alex's database had been copied from the Security Bureau, where most awakened individuals had records.
Even his own Farmer talent could be found in their database.
Yet, despite Rosie thoroughly searching the database, there was no trace of the old beggar.
In other words, the old beggar's information was never recorded by the Security Bureau.
The old beggar sighed:
"The guild may have records of many people, but the Security Bureau doesn't have mine."
Alex grew intrigued:
"Why?"
The old beggar knew that what he was about to say might not sit well with Alex, but he recalled "Ghost Wings'" kind reminder.
He must not lie—he had to answer whatever was asked, truthfully.
Gathering his courage, the old beggar explained: "Because I grew up in the Moon Worship Cult and rarely traveled through cities..."
He cast a cautious glance at Alex, worried that his past association with another extraordinary force would make the president wary.
But Alex didn't seem too concerned. After all, anyone who consumed a super fruit was firmly under his control.
Instead, Alex became more interested in the other extraordinary organizations. Moon Worship Cult—this was clearly the name of one such group.
The old beggar had no reason to hide it anymore.
The Moon Worship Cult had existed for a long time as an assassin organization.
As long as the price was right, they could assassinate anyone, even government leaders.
The old beggar had once been a top assassin within the Moon Worship Cult, but internal conflicts within the cult had forced him to flee, becoming a beggar to avoid their pursuit.
"If the president minds, I can leave Bluewater City immediately. I won't bring any trouble to the guild.
But please, spare my foolish disciple. He truly had no intention of offending the guild!"
With that, the old beggar kowtowed heavily before Alex.
Only now did Alex realize that the old beggar was a ticking time bomb.
If the Moon Worship Cult found him, it could bring enemies to the Mercenary Guild.
However, Alex wasn't worried about the cult causing trouble.
The Security Captain of Bluewater City was his man, as was the underworld's gang leader. Add to that the hundreds of hunters in the Mercenary Guild, and Alex felt more than confident.
In Bluewater City, Alex was the hidden overlord.
He calmly sat back in his chair, lowering his eyes as he said: "The Moon Worship Cult isn't worth my concern. I can protect you.
However, your dear disciple violated guild rules by investigating our hunters.
I personally set those rules, which puts me in a difficult position."
