Ghost Slayer: My Wife Kanao

Chapter 13: ch13

Leaving the inn far behind, Sam Miller glanced back. He could vaguely see a large number of police officers heading toward the inn where the incident occurred. After all, there had been quite a commotion there the previous night.

Wearing a bamboo hat, he walked down the street holding Kanao Tsuyuri's hand. The girl's expression remained dull and indifferent, as if she would never have any emotional fluctuations. She did not express any opinions or her own ideas, seemingly only knowing to follow him numbly.

If it weren't for the faint sound of her breathing, Sam might have thought he was leading a ghost. But then again, he was a ghost!

It was a bit strange for a ghost to walk among the crowd. However, with the cover of the bamboo hat, it was not easy to be discovered.

Suddenly, he felt something and turned his head sharply.

In the crowd, two girls from the Demon Slayer Corps followed him silently. The two girls looked somewhat similar, but their temperaments were quite different. One appeared very gentle with a smile on her face, while the other looked serious and stern. One was taller, and the other was shorter.

The taller girl had pink-purple eyes, long black hair reaching her waist, and wore emerald-green butterfly barrettes with pink edges on both sides of her hair. She wore the standard Demon Slayer Corps uniform, covered with a colorful butterfly-patterned haori.

The shorter girl had short hair, the same purple eyes, purple hair tips, and a curly hairstyle, and she also wore the uniform of the Demon Slayer Corps.

With just one glance, Sam knew who they were.

The present-day Kanae Kochou and the future Insect Hashira, Shinobu Kochou.

They were both members of the Demon Slayer Corps. Seeing the two staring at him, it was clear they were there for him. But when he thought about it, it wasn't surprising that the Kochou sisters were there.

According to the plot, the Kochou sisters were supposed to be in the area performing tasks. They would rescue Kanao, who was being dragged by the human trafficker Ichiro Tamoya, and eventually adopt Kanao into their family.

Kanae and Shinobu Kochou had obviously found him, but they hesitated to engage because of some reservations.

The golden eyes under Sam's bamboo hat looked around at the ordinary people who kept walking. It was apparent that Kanae and Shinobu Kochou were worried that fighting here would affect these ordinary people.

"Sister, that ghost seems to have spotted us," Shinobu Kochou squinted her purple eyes, her serious and delicate face full of murderous intent.

Kanae Kochou turned her head and looked at her sister. She could clearly see the burning anger and hatred in her sister's eyes, knowing that her sister probably wanted to use her Nichirin Blade to chop off the neck of the ghost in front of her.

She couldn't help but gently rub her sister's head. What happened back then had left a deep shadow in their hearts. Not only for her sister but even for herself, the memory was unforgettable. After all, they were supposed to be like other normal children, surrounded by their parents' love, living a carefree and happy life.

Yet, all those good things were destroyed by a ghost.

Kanae's eyes unconsciously fell on the ghost in front, who was holding a human girl by the hand. Why would a ghost lead a human girl?

There was a hint of curiosity in her pink-purple eyes.

"Looking at it again, I always feel that this ghost is a little different," Kanae spoke softly, her voice as gentle as the warm spring sun.

"Sister..." Shinobu was a bit offended, but seeing her sister's eyes, she could only turn her head and sulk. "Sister, you're always so gentle."

"Even if you are gentle with ghosts."

Kanae was silent for a while, just stroking her sister's head, and said softly, "Ghosts were once people just like us!"

"But, he has turned into a ghost," Shinobu liked her sister's gentleness but also hated it. She even maintained sympathy for ghosts.

"In case, this ghost is different," Kanae shook her head. "I think, as a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, ghost hunting should not only save the people the ghosts want to kill but also free the ghosts from the cause and effect of sorrow."

Shinobu was even more annoyed. Just looking up at her sister, she asked, "Sister, have we encountered any different ghosts so far?"

Hearing this, Kanae fell silent. The ghosts they had encountered so far were all the same. Ghosts who, when hungry, whether they were parents or siblings, would kill and eat.

They could not suppress their nature as ghosts. The ghosts they had encountered so far had all been like this.

Unconsciously, Kanae looked at the ghost in front wearing a bamboo hat and holding a human girl by the hand, hidden in the crowd.

"Will this ghost do the same?"
