Geomancy couple

Chapter 92

Chapter 92: Chapter 92

Her smile was bright. Was it because she was with someone she loved? She looked more composed and beautiful than before.

Arum’s mother suddenly held Hojoon’s hands and said, “You are a geomancy consultant, right?”

“Huh? How did you know that?”

“I think last year I went to a TV studio as one of the audience for its program featuring his geomancy. At that time, I thought the world of him. I wish he were my son-in-law.” Arum’s eyes opened wide with surprise. “I sized him up when I saw him from the veranda. I don’t know how close you are, but I hope you can get along well without quarreling. Okay?”

“Just go now, mom.”

“Thanks, daughter.”

She went down to the porch of her villa, holding her mother’s hand. A taxi was waiting for them and the driver carried their baggage.

Arum whispered into her mother’s ear, “Wow, your daughter has never gotten married. How many times are you getting married? You told me you would never get married again, right?”

“You may be right, but I don’t regret that I gave birth to you, Arum. It’s the best thing I have done since being born.”

“Really?”

“Sure. How dull would my life have been without you? Do you know how much I was hurt when you revolted against me?”

Arum hugged her mother tightly and said, “I am sorry, mom. Get better, okay?”

“Don’t worry about me. Don’t lose such a great guy.”

Arum’s mother then said goodbye to Hojoon before leaving.

Watching at the taxi disappearing, Arum realized that the first house she lived in was her mother’s womb.

“Sorry. I didn’t tell you about my sickness. I didn’t want you to worry, and he really treated me well.”

“Good for you, mom. If I had known about your sickness, I wouldn’t have worked and moved around comfortably. I’m glad you met a good man, mom.”

“As I’m in the very early stages, the doctor says I don’t have to worry about it at all.”

“I’ve made the decision to take her to Japan because it will be hard for you to take care of her here in Korea. I’m sorry I made the decision without consulting with you first.”

“Thank you.”

Arum couldn’t say any other words than that.

“I have a checkup schedule tomorrow morning, so I have to take the morning flight. That’s why I had to tell you today.”

“Mom…”

“I won’t tell you to use this money sparingly because I can’t take care of you. Just use it when you need it. Let me give you the money in advance, just in case.”

But Arum gave the bankbook back to her and said, “You need the money for your living expenses.”

She pushed it back to Arum and said, “Gosh, just accept it. Do you think my house was the only property I own? Don’t worry about it. I’m running late now, so we’ll head to the airport now.”

“Sure,” Mankuk said.

“Arum, let me call you when I arrive in Japan.”

Her mother and Mankuk stood up.

Arum could not let her mother leave like that. Though she wanted to give her something, she couldn’t think of a proper gift.

She was always used to receiving something from her.

Ah!

She suddenly thought of the Eye of Horus she was wearing. She took it off and put it around her mother’s neck.

“Mom, this is the Eye of Horus. Hojoon’s father gave it to me. It’s a patron necklace. It’s my gift to you to celebrate your wedding.”

Standing beside her, Hojoon explained, “If you keep it, you will recover quickly.”

Looking at the necklace, she smiled softly, “Thanks. This eye is beautiful and looks just like your eyes.”

Her smile was bright. Was it because she was with someone she loved? She looked more composed and beautiful than before.

Arum’s mother suddenly held Hojoon’s hands and said, “You are a geomancy consultant, right?”

“Don’t worry about me. Don’t lose such a great guy.”

Arum’s mother then said goodbye to Hojoon before leaving.

Watching at the taxi disappearing, Arum realized that the first house she lived in was her mother’s womb.

Everybody is born in myongdang, where the mother loves and takes care of me alone. My first myongdang was my mother’s womb.

Looking at her back, she felt tears welled up in her eyes.

“Well, you proposed to me, but my mom is getting married. What the heck is this?”

“I think this house of yours is myongdang.”

“This place? It can’t be!”

“Yes, it is,” Hojoon said firmly.

“No way. I’m the owner of this house, but my mom is getting married. By the way, it’s too late…”

Arum was about to say goodbye unconsciously to him. She quickly tried to read his expression.

“Don’t worry. I can catch a taxi.”

Fortunately, he didn’t seem to catch her genuine feelings. On the one hand, she felt good about it, but on the other hand she had regrets about it.

Can’t you be with me now? I don’t want to be left alone today.

She wanted to say that, but couldn’t bring herself to do so. She felt she was too selfish because she used to reach out only when she badly needed his help.

“Sure. Let me wait with you until the taxi arrives here, ” she said, smiling awkwardly.

Loneliness after being left behind was something everyone had to endure alone. Whenever she wrote a column on love, she used to stress that point to the readers.

“Arum, I contacted a shop that buys and sells used items. They told me the shop was open during the weekend. If you contact them in the morning, you’ll get contacted in the afternoon. I sent them a text message just a moment ago.”

“Thank you. I’ll contact them. I think I’m going to be busy tomorrow.”

“Do you need my help?”

Arum shook her head.

“You told me they’re going to come here, right? I don’t want to show the items here to anybody else.”

Hojoon understood what she was trying to say.

“Got it. If you need my help, let me know. Don’t feel any burden. This is my relief effort.”

Relief effort?

Arum burst into laughter, “Oh, I see a taxi coming to my place.”

Arum waved her hands at the taxi driver.

The orange taxi drove to her villa quickly.

“Thanks a lot for your help today. I’ll see you at Sola House on Monday.” She said goodbye to him with a bright smile.

Though Hojoon didn’t want to leave, he got into the taxi and left.

She felt today of all days was unusually long.

***

The next Monday morning Arum headed for Sola House after finishing her morning assignment. By now she was confused whether she was a reporter for Single Woman or an employee of Sola Electronics.

Though it didn’t take a lot of time, the empty Sola House had been turned into a sweet home.

It was the product of the know-how of the Famed House of Geomancy, Hojoon’s company, and the technology of Sola Electronics.

Jina, who was in charge of this project, looked emaciated after hard work.

Patting her on the back, Arum comforted her, “Finally it will open tomorrow. Don’t worry.”

“Yeah, finally tomorrow! Deadlines are scary, aren’t they?” said Jina grudgingly. She continued, “Isn’t it wonderful that I carried out this project?”

Arum praised her by saying, “Wonderful! How can your company do business without you?”

Jina shrugged her shoulders at her praise and said, “My job is done when they come and review the work.”

“Is anybody from your headquarters coming to check it out?”

“I guess an executive officer.”

“After I write the article on your open house tomorrow, I’m done, too!” said Arum.
