Chapter 61: Smooth Combo Moves
In the depths of the sea, Osial was urging Felina to quickly take Beisht away.
If Morax discovered her, Beisht's strength wouldn't be enough to withstand even a single strike from Morax's stone spear.
However, Felina only smiled in response.
"Don't worry. I've imbued Lady Beisht with my 'Water' aura, a power unique to me," she said.
"This power has altered Lady Beisht's aura, making her indistinguishable from the surrounding seawater to others' senses."
"With this protection, as long as she moves carefully and avoids causing unusual currents, she doesn't need to worry about being discovered.
From now on, you and your wife can meet regularly and no longer endure the pain of separation."
These words left Osial deeply moved.
The Archon War had been unbearably cruel, a time filled with deception and betrayal where only the strong thrived while the defeated were cast into oblivion.
In that era, kindness was a rarity. After the war, Osial had been sealed away and had almost no contact with others.
Aside from Beisht, Felina was one of the very few willing to show him genuine goodwill.
"Thank you very much, Hydro Archon Focalors!" he said earnestly.
Felina responded with a gentle smile. "You saved Aurelie; helping you in return is only natural."
"No!" Osial interjected. "Saving your follower was a mere trifle. What you've done, reuniting me with my wife, is a debt far greater than I can repay."
Sighing, Osial continued. "I've always been one to repay kindness and settle grudges. But now, in my current state, I'm unable to do anything for you. It's truly regrettable."
Hearing this, Felina felt a surge of delight internally, though her expression remained composed.
She smiled lightly and said, "Brother Osial, you're too polite. Since you feel this way, there is indeed something I would like to trouble you with."
Some might assume Felina was about to ask Osial to become her follower at this moment.
But that would be underestimating both Felina and Osial.
"I've heard that as the Overlord of the Vortex, Brother Osial demonstrated incredible powers during the Archon War, commanding storms and controlling the seas."
"Truthfully," she admitted, "while I have some skill in manipulating water elements, I'm not particularly adept at controlling oceans, rivers, or summoning storms."
"So, if possible, I'd like to seek your guidance in this area."
"Oh, is that all?" Osial said, caught off guard.
When Felina mentioned having a request, he had braced himself, thinking she would ask for something excessive or unreasonable.
Unexpectedly, Felina's request was simply to seek guidance on combat techniques.
As mentioned before, Osial had a somewhat irritable temperament but valued loyalty and repaid debts of gratitude.
Why did Osial, a god, ultimately lose while the much weaker Beisht managed to escape?
It was because Osial valued relationships deeply. In protecting his beloved wife's escape, he became burdened and eventually fell to Morax.
Felina's act of reuniting him with Beisht was already a great favor to Osial.
Moreover, the desire to teach is a common trait in many beings.
After being suppressed for so many years, Osial's existence had been filled with frustration and solitude. Now, here was Felina, the Hydro Archon herself, humbly asking for his advice.
Adding to this, Felina's constant respectful address of "Brother Osial" perfectly struck the right chord, giving Osial a sense of importance and respect.
"Of course! No problem at all!" Osial responded, immensely pleased and readily agreeing.
Felina was delighted and immediately approached Osial to begin their discussions.
Time passed quickly, and before they realized it, three days had gone by.
During those three days, Felina and Osial explored the nuances of water manipulation together.
Both being gods of Hydro, they naturally had countless topics to discuss regarding the application and development of their respective powers.
Throughout their discussions, Felina sought Osial's insights into summoning storms and controlling the tides.
A noteworthy clarification here: the five serpent heads seen in the game's main storyline are not Osial's true form.
Osial's true body remains suppressed and resembles something closer to a whale.
In the story, Childe used the Delusion unleashed by the Foul Legacy Transformation to partially loosen the suppression of the stone spear. While this wasn't enough to free Osial, it allowed him to manifest his power.
The five-headed serpent form was merely an embodiment of Osial's power, a manifestation of water elemental energy shaped for combat.
Thus, Osial had extensive expertise in using water elements (Hydro) to create combat forms, a skill that coincidentally aligned with Felina's penchant for summoning Hydro Phantasms to fight.
During their exchanges, Felina went so far as to let Furina take control of her body to converse directly with Osial. This revealed to Osial and Beisht the secret of her dual personalities.
Nothing builds trust faster than sharing a deeply guarded secret—provided, of course, the person is trustworthy.
By openly revealing her dual personalities and warning Osial and Beisht that this was a significant secret not to be shared with anyone, Felina created a bond of trust.
Hearing such an important secret shared with them so freely, Osial and Beisht were deeply moved. Their trust in Felina and Furina grew immensely.
The discussions were incredibly enjoyable.
During this time, both Felina and Furina continuously sought Osial's guidance, occasionally sharing their own insights as well.
Likewise, Osial and Beisht would also ask Felina and Furina about their experiences in utilizing water elements.
Felina and Furina, of course, answered all their questions without reservation.
Through this back-and-forth exchange, the relationship between Felina, Furina, Beisht, and Osial quickly deepened.
By the time the discussions concluded, they were already addressing each other as brothers and sisters.
"These past few days have been immensely fruitful," Felina remarked. "Though I'm reluctant to part, my official duties call, and we must leave."
Clearly, Felina felt a sense of reluctance. "I'm sorry, Brother Osial, Sister Beisht, but we must return to Fontaine."
Beisht smiled. "It's fine, truly. We also once had people we deeply loved and served, so we understand how busy you must be."
Osial nodded in agreement. "Yes, go on. These few days together have already brought us great joy."
"Then, Sister Beisht, Brother Osial, we're off now!" Furina waved cheerfully. "We'll visit you again when we have the chance."
As they prepared to leave, Felina suddenly paused, as if something had come to mind. She turned back to address Osial and Beisht.
"Sister Beisht, Brother Osial, I must remind you of something."
"I deeply understand your pain and sincerely wish for your freedom."
"Though Sister Beisht is now untraceable, I must caution you not to attempt to disrupt the stone spear to free Brother Osial."
"The Lone Cloud Pavilion is a highly sensitive area for Liyue. Any disturbance will be immediately noticed. Should that happen, not only will freeing Brother Osial fail, but Sister Beisht would likely be suppressed or killed on the spot."
"And moreover—"
Felina hesitated, her expression troubled, but ultimately chose not to finish her sentence.
"Don't worry, Sister Felina, we understand," Osial reassured her.
"Yes, we understand," Beisht echoed with a nod.
"Good," Felina said, nodding. "Then we won't disturb you any longer. When we have the chance, Furina and I will come back to visit you."
With that, Felina controlled the currents and quickly departed.
"What a remarkable god," Beisht remarked as they watched her leave.
"Indeed," Osial agreed. "Who would have thought beings like us could one day receive such kindness?"
The two looked at Felina's retreating figure, their hearts heavy with gratitude.
Of course, they understood what Felina had hesitated to say after "And moreover."
She wanted to warn them that, even if Beisht managed to avoid being discovered, any significant attempt to free Osial would provoke retaliation from the Geo Archon or other powerful forces in Liyue. Their lives would become even more precarious, and the fragile connection they now cherished might be shattered forever.
Yet Felina, ever tactful, had chosen not to spell out this painful truth. Her restraint, and her genuine concern, only deepened their appreciation for her.
What Felina had originally intended to say was this:
"Moreover, if you are discovered, the Geo Archon will inevitably realize that I helped Sister Beisht avoid detection. If that happens, Liyue and Fontaine will undoubtedly come into conflict, and I will have offended the Geo Archon."
However, out of consideration for the feelings of Osial and Beisht, and to preserve their budding friendship, Felina refrained from voicing the rest of her thoughts.
But it was precisely this omission that made Osial and Beisht even more touched. It showed them that Felina truly valued their friendship.
At this moment, however, Osial and Beisht, basking in their gratitude, were entirely unaware that they had already fallen into Felina's carefully laid trap.
While it was true that Felina sought to learn techniques for summoning storms and manipulating water, her true goal was to use this pretext to build emotional closeness with Osial and Beisht and lay the foundation for a deeper friendship.
As for her warning to Beisht not to attempt to rescue Osial, it seemed on the surface to be for their benefit.
But in reality? It was like telling a child not to eat the snacks in a drawer—while simultaneously reminding them that there are snacks in the drawer.
This was a subtle psychological game, a form of suggestion and implication.
On the surface, Felina was cautioning Beisht against attempting to free Osial, but in truth, Beisht might not have even considered the idea before.
With Felina's reminder, however, the thought suddenly surfaced in Beisht's mind: Wait a minute, I can't be detected anymore. Isn't now the perfect opportunity to save my husband?
That's right—Felina had planted a seed in Beisht's heart.
Would Beisht ultimately try to free Osial?
Felina believed that, at first, Beisht would restrain herself out of concern for the risks and a sense of guilt toward Felina.
But Osial was Beisht's husband. Nearly two thousand years of imprisonment!
Every day, her husband was pinned beneath the ocean by the stone spear, enduring constant pain. What wife could endure watching such suffering?
With freedom so close at hand, would Beisht truly be content to stand by and do nothing?
Eventually, Felina believed, Beisht would lose control and decide to take the gamble.
Why, then, did Felina deliberately leave that unfinished "Moreover"?
Because it was her way of telling Osial and Beisht that if they attempted to break the seal, Fontaine and Liyue would inevitably turn against each other, and she herself would become an enemy of the Geo Archon.
Out of love for her husband, Beisht would eventually make her move against the stone spear. But at the same time, they would believe that their actions had harmed Felina and Fontaine.
When they were inevitably discovered and hunted by the Geo Archon, and when, in their moment of life-and-death crisis, Felina arrived to protect them—even going so far as to face the Geo Archon in battle to shield them—
How could this couple possibly face Felina, weighed down by their guilt and debt?
Thus, from the moment Felina's plan was set in motion, Osial and Beisht were trapped in her web, their actions meticulously orchestrated.
With such an intricate series of events unfolding, how could anyone—not just Osial and Beisht—hope to escape such a carefully laid scheme?
