Game Of Thrones : Merchant of Two Worlds

Chapter 112: 112. People from the Reach

Looking at Maester Angelo, who was watching him intently, Jason continued, "As you've probably noticed, Westeros is incredibly far from my homeland. Transporting goods here is extremely challenging, and the supply of pens and paper I've managed to bring is very limited.

"It's not enough—far from it. Even if I wanted to make these items widely available, it's simply not possible right now. The lack of stock makes it difficult to even sell at a reasonable price, let alone distribute them freely."

Maester Angelo's expression froze for a moment, a hint of awkwardness flickering across his face. "That does seem like a difficult issue…"

Jason nodded and pressed on. "Exactly. It's not that I don't want to make gel pens and white paper accessible to more people in Westeros. It's just that the supply is far too small, and demand far exceeds what I can provide. But I promise that as soon as I can increase production and transportation, I'll ensure that more people can enjoy these items."

Jason took a sip of water before shifting the conversation. "So, Maester Angelo, aside from this matter, what other concerns have the scholars of Oldtown sent you here to discuss?"

Maester Angelo perked up at the question. "The Citadel wishes to purchase gel pens and white paper in bulk!" His enthusiasm was clear as he leaned forward. "These items have proven invaluable. As you know, the pens write smoothly, the paper is durable, and the writing is clear and easy to preserve. Such tools would greatly assist us in our studies and record-keeping."

Jason smiled. "That's no problem at all. Since the Citadel is so interested, I'll gladly arrange a deal. In fact, to show my respect for your institution, I'll offer a 10% discount on all the items you purchase."

Maester Angelo's face lit up with delight. "This is… incredibly generous, Lord Jason! On behalf of the Citadel, I thank you deeply."

Jason waved off the thanks. "It's too early for gratitude just yet." He leaned forward, his tone turning serious. "I have a favor to ask in return. I hope the Citadel can recommend some assistant maesters or apprentices—those who, for one reason or another, have not been able to achieve full maester status. I'd like them to come work for me and assist with managing the affairs of my household."

Angelo's expression turned thoughtful. "You wish to recruit scholars from the Citadel to serve your household?"

Jason quickly clarified. "Not full maesters—I know how important they are to Westeros. I'm specifically looking for assistant maesters and apprentices who might not have a future within the Citadel. As you can imagine, finding literate workers in the North is no easy task. That's why I hope the Citadel can help me in this small way."

Realizing Jason was only asking for those the Citadel deemed unfit for further advancement, Maester Angelo relaxed. "That shouldn't be an issue. When I return, I'll discuss this with the Seneschals and see which apprentices might be willing to join you."

Jason nodded, satisfied. "That's all I could ask for. Thank you."

The two men finalized the details of the agreement, both pleased with the results. Meanwhile, Lina and the others were busy finalizing deals with merchants from the Reach. The Citadel placed an order for 10,000 gel pens, 200,000 refills, and all remaining stocks of A4 and larger paper. They also purchased 5,000 bars of soap.

Merchants from the Reach, however, were even more eager buyers. They snapped up 30,000 gel pens, 300,000 refills, and 15,000 bars of soap. Both groups loaded their goods onto carriages, the bustling activity taking nearly two hours.

By the end of the day, Jason had secured a substantial profit. The Citadel paid 1,845 gold dragons after their 10% discount, while the Reach merchants spent 3,450 gold dragons. Altogether, Jason added over 5,000 gold dragons to his wealth, bringing his total to more than 10,000 gold dragons.

Realizing how valuable his growing fortune was, Jason had already taken precautions. He had imported a large, reinforced steel safe from his homeland and kept it securely in Winterfell. The safe was nearly impossible to break into or move without significant effort, giving him peace of mind.

In Winterfell, Jason's position was secure under the protection of House Stark. As long as the current stability in Westeros continued, no one would dare challenge him. Of course, Jason was acutely aware that chaos would likely follow King Robert's eventual death. When that day came, he'd need to plan carefully to protect his interests.

For now, Jason turned his attention back to his inventory. He had 15,000 gel pens, 80,000 refills, and 300,000 bars of soap left in stock. Both paper and soap had sold out entirely, meaning he needed to replenish his supplies quickly.

To handle this growing business, Jason's company, Fusion Trading, had just completed a larger storefront and warehouse. This would allow him to store and sell more goods, including introducing new products to the market.

In the distance, the merchants' carriages trundled toward White Harbor, where ships from the Reach awaited. Watching them go, Jason couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. His ventures were thriving, and his influence in Westeros was steadily growing. But he knew this was only the beginning.

The next steps would require even more careful planning, particularly as tensions in the Seven Kingdoms began to simmer beneath the surface.
