Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Clorinde: Fininna is so weak?

In the afterglow of dusk, pedestrians on the street cast curious and whispering glances. Ignoring the strange looks from passersby, Clorinde hurriedly carried Lin Anyi back to her home.

After entering her residence, she didn't immediately let go of him. Instead, she took him to the bedroom and gently placed him on the bed. Then, almost instinctively, she turned around and locked the door, like a thief about to commit some misdeed.

Lin Anyi, still under the influence of hypnosis, saw only the woman in front of him—the woman he mistakenly believed to be Funina.

"Fufu, you're so rude today. Don't you usually wait for me quietly?"

His words were accompanied by a puzzled but gentle smile. This stark contrast stirred an inexplicable emotion in Clorinde's heart.

She realized this situation couldn't continue. She needed to break the illusion, to tell Lin Anyi the truth. He had to understand that his current state was a falsehood, and that she wasn't his wife, Funina.

As Clorinde opened her mouth to speak and shatter the fragile illusion, Lin Anyi's voice interrupted her, filled with comfort and conviction:

"Fufu, there's no need to explain. No matter how you are, I like you very much. In my heart, you'll always be the most special one—a hundred times better than other women!"

These words, as gentle as the warm spring sun, made Clorinde's heart tighten painfully.

At that moment, her heart seemed suffocated under a heavy weight. With Lin Anyi's innocent and curious eyes fixed on her, Clorinde couldn't help but voice the doubts that had festered within her for so long:

"What about Clorinde? What do you think of her?"

Lin Anyi was stunned for a moment before smiling.

"Who is Clorinde?"

He tilted his head slightly, as though trying to recall a concept buried in the distant past. Then, blinking in confusion, he added:

"Fufu, didn't you always say you'd be jealous if I talked about other women? Why are you so generous today?"

These words were like salt on an already raw wound in Clorinde's heart. She felt a wave of powerlessness wash over her. Slowly, she lowered her head, allowing the heavy brim of her hat to shadow her eyes.

Her gaze, hidden beneath the hat, was a storm of bitterness, loss, and helplessness—a tangle of emotions she couldn't untangle.

Clorinde understood that Lin Anyi's amnesia wasn't his fault. Yet, seeing his utter unfamiliarity with her left her heart aching.

What's more, Funina, whom Clorinde had regarded as her best friend, had been so heartless when it came to Lin Anyi. Not only did she never mention Clorinde's existence, but she also forbade him from speaking her name.

Such behavior seemed like an intentional effort to erase Clorinde from Lin Anyi's life.

"How could this happen..."

Clorinde's heart filled with a mix of bitterness and betrayal. She felt let down by the person she thought was closest to her. She had always believed herself to be different from those bad women, certain she would never have improper thoughts about Funina's husband.

But now, she found herself in an awkward and complicated position—misunderstood and, ironically, the biggest victim of this misunderstanding.

The scorching sun cast Clorinde's shadow on the ground, making her figure appear especially lonely. Her heart surged with turmoil, her emotions threatening to overwhelm her.

Faced with Lin Anyi's clear, innocent eyes, Clorinde's thoughts became clouded with confusion and frustration.

"Is it really so ruthless..."

Her voice was barely audible, but her words hit her like a heavy hammer.

A crazy idea suddenly popped into her mind—an extreme solution, one that had crossed her thoughts in the restless hours of the night:

"What if I just possessed him?"

Yes, only by violating Lin Anyi could she make him recognize reality amid this chaotic illusion.

The impulsive thought seemed to promise a fleeting sense of relief. It was also a form of revenge on Funina, letting her taste the bitterness of betrayal.

But as quickly as the thought arose, Clorinde's rationality swept in like a cold breeze, dispelling the heat of her impulsion.

She began to worry: What would happen when Lin Anyi woke from hypnosis? Would he be filled with disgust? Hatred?

Clorinde knew that no one emerged unscathed from such a violation, especially when layered with the complex emotional entanglements they shared.

"Unless..." she thought, "I cooperate with Alechino to keep him unconscious..."

Her eyes widened as she realized the depth of her thoughts.

"Wait, what am I thinking?!"

Clorinde snapped out of it, shaking her head violently as if to physically rid herself of such dangerous ideas.

She was painfully aware of her boundaries. Lin Anyi was her best friend's husband, and no matter how desperate the situation, she could never cross that line. Similarly, she refused to align herself with the schemes of Alechino.

As Clorinde wrestled with her inner turmoil, Lin Anyi, still under hypnosis, mumbled incoherently from the bed:

"Fufu, you're so slow today. It's okay. Just like that earlier... You can do whatever you want next time."

"As long as you don't make me beg for mercy at the start like usual, it doesn't matter."

His words made Clorinde's eyes widen in shock, an indescribable emotion surging within her.

"What did Anyi just say?"

Her heartbeat quickened, and her thoughts spiraled in complexity.

"Funina… couldn't even handle the beginning?"

Clorinde's initial reaction of concern quickly gave way to a strange sense of joy.

"Funina..." she whispered to herself, her voice carrying an imperceptible shift in tone.

Despite the many women eyeing Lin Anyi, Funina—the one who managed to succeed in marrying him—seemed incapable of satisfying him.

"At least she should hold on for three minutes, right?"

"But she's such a loser? After all these years... Lin Anyi must have been completely pent up!"

Clorinde's internal drama became increasingly complex. Yet, amid her turmoil, she suddenly felt a sense of justification.

"Yes," she told herself, "Lin Anyi must have developed physical issues after being pent up for so long. As Funina's good friend, it's my obligation to help her check his health!"
