"So what do you say, Makarov? Instead of two old fogies fighting how about we let our newest recruits test their strength against each other, huh? Satan Soul against Devil Slayer?"
The more knowledgeable of the guild masters all gasped at the announcement. Not because of the challenge, mind you, but because of the two magics that were said.
Satan Soul is a type of Take Over magic. Take Over allows the user to, essentially, take over the power or body of an entity and use it to fight. It can increase the power, strength, and speed of the Caster, sometimes adding a new skill, such as flying or breathing underwater. One can only take over the power of beings they truly "know". In addition to embodying an entity, Take Over can also be used to control another entity or another entity's abilities.
Satan Soul in particular is among not only the more rare types of Take Over but also a very dangerous and powerful one. First, a human has to not only have demon ancestry but also have the magic power needed to transform into a demonic form in the first place. Then they have to have the strength of will to not lose control to the transformation lest it take them over instead. Whenever Satan Soul wizards assume their demonic visage they are in a silent battle of wills with the selfish creatures they become.
While this battle of domination is common among almost all forms of Take Over, demons and beasts in particular are unforgivingly strong in the mind when enraged. If a Take Over wizard loses to them in this battle, they will be consumed and turned into hosts for whatever they tried to take over in the first place.
And then there's the Devil Slayer magic.
If Satan Soul was known but rare and dangerous, Devil Slayer magic was almost completely unheard of causing most of them to immediately recognise it as a Lost Magic. The concept of Slayer magic wasn't unheard of, though, as there are books that can still be found today about God Slaying magic, and the process of using the corpses of dragons to make Dragon Slayer lacrima is fairly known albeit expensive to perform, as the lacrima needs to be surgically implanted into the mage.
Makarov's grandson for instance, Laxus Dreyar, was shown to have been too weak as a boy to use magic effectively, so his father implanted a lacrima made from the heart of a lightning dragon which ended up strengthening the boy's frail body and making him a Lightning Dragon Slayer. The dragon in question was known as Elexion, the Lightning Dragon King.
Then there's God Serena, one of the more recent members to join the Ten Wizard Saints, whose main source of magic is the several dragon lacrima he has implanted into his body.
Two of the guild masters present, Makarov himself and Jiemma Orland, the master of Sabertooth, have encountered children who claim to have learned their Dragon Slaying magic directly from dragons themselves. Natsu, Fairy Tail's Fire Dragon Slayer and Sting and Rogue, Sabertooth's White and Shadow Dragon Slayers.
Jiemma also has a guild member who has learned God Slaying magic. Orga Nanagear, Sabertooth's Lightning God Slayer.
So the concept of Slayer magic isn't lost on anyone present, not in the slightest, but almost none of them have heard of Devil Slayer magic in particular, and that alone is what is shocking to them. But Makarov, in his drunken state, took it as a challenge. Still, he wasn't foolish. His Satan Soul mage was still young and inexperienced despite her hard-headedness, so despite her being strong and talented, he didn't want to throw her into a fight if she was guaranteed to lose.
So, intoxicated and angry, he encouraged Jose.
"How old is this Devil Slayer?"
"Thirteen? I think... Yeah. She's thirteen."
"Alright, fine then. My Satan Soul wizard is thirteen as well."
"So are you agreeing, teeny tiny?" Jose said with a mirthful smile.
"To see you're smug mug when you taste defeat? Oh, most certainly!"
"Alright then, message your wizard and I'll message mine! Tomorrow night, they'll fight and we'll see whose rooky is superior!"
"Fine!"
"Fine!"
—
If someone was going to say that the Fairy Tail guild hall was peaceful at night, they would be understating the truth of that statement.
While simultaneously telling you a blatant lie.
Most of the guild was being thrown against the walls while tables were being used as weapons and shields. Almost every adult within the guild was dropping their jaws or running in fear as the pair of two girls fighting each other threw the building into disarray.
"Die, Erza!"
"I'll make you cry, Mirajane!"
A familiar girl with braided red hair and steel armour was trading blows with a white-haired girl with a punk aesthetic. They were gritting their teeth in both anger and frustration as their fists collided. The source of their anger? Completely unknown.
The white-haired girl kicked the redhead away, sending her flying into the wall of the guild and over a pair of screaming adults. "Is that armour your training bra!?"
Erza quickly recovered, delivering a punch that had a similar result to the kick. "Like showing off your love handles!?"
They locked themselves in a grapple, butting their heads together to overpower the other. But the lulled moment in their seemingly spontaneous brawl didn't prevent them from slinging insults at each other.
"You ugly prude!"
"You stupid wench!"
"Thunder thighs!"
"Four-eyes!"
"What did you say!?"
Off to their side, a group of kids watched in exasperation as the two young teens butted heads in the most literal way.
"Way to lower the bar guys..." said a small girl with brown hair tied up in a ponytail wearing a yellow dress. Cana Alberona.
"And Erza tells us not to fight..." said a young boy with black hair, the only thing he was wearing being a black pair of boxers. Gray Fullbuster.
"This is pissing me off!" said a boy with pink hair, a red shirt, and a white scarf wrapped around his neck. Natsu Dragneel was cracking his knuckles as he looked at the two fighting with determination, "Erza, Mira...I'll beat up the both of ya one day!"
That statement drew the attention of the two girls who were fighting, making the group of kids shiver and glare at Natsu.
"Gray! Put on some pants!"
"Y-Yes, Erza!"
"Pfft! Los- huh?" Natsu started to laugh before he felt Mira grab his head.
"Get away from my sister, pinky!"
"AAAAAH!"
This time it was Gray's turn to laugh, as he got to see the pinkette get thrown through a window and into the bay beside the cliff the Fairy Tail guildhall rested on.
"Miraaaa! Was that necessary?" said a younger girl with short white hair and a pink dress. This was Mirajane's younger sister, Lisanna Strauss.
"Of course it was! No baby sister of mine is going to contract whatever intelligence-reducing sickness Erza's friends have!"
"Are you calling my friends stupid!?" said the redhead standing beside the white-haired sisters.
"About as stupid as that tacky tin can you wear!"
"You contumacious punk!"
Before they could continue their brawl, a bolt of yellow lightning crashed in between the two girls causing both of them to relent forcibly.
"Both of you quiet down!" said a seventeen-year-old boy with blonde hair, a yellow t-shirt, headphones, and a scar across his right eye. He was standing by the guild hall's bar with a small communication lacrima in his hand that showed an angry, screaming and drunk Makarov, although the sound seemed to be turned off.
"Tsk, what are you doing getting in our businesses, Laxus?"
"Every day with you two..." Laxus Dreyar, Fairy Tail's newest S-Class mage and the grandson of the guild master, sighed as he rubbed his nose between thumb and forefinger, "Because the old man called us from the guild meeting."
"What does the master want?" Erza chimed in, with her and Mira noticeably calming down at the mention of the guild master and even turning respectful with her tone.
"Hard to say. Something something fight, something something Phantom Lord. It was difficult to make any sense of but it seemed like he wanted Mirajane to make her way over to Clover Town by tomorrow night to fight someone from the guild."
"Phantom Lord? Why does Master Makarov want sis to fight someone from another guild?" spoke a gentle voice. Sitting at a table was yet another child with white hair. This was Elfman Strauss, the younger brother of Mirajane and the older brother of Lisanna. He was wearing a suit and attempted to carry himself with an air of respectfulness his older sister refused to.
"Don't know, but probably has something to do with the old rivalry our guilds had."
"Rivalry?"
"Yeah. Apparently, the founders of our guilds had a hatred towards one another, back when Phantom Lord's founder Geoffrey had control over Magnolia before us and led a guild called Blue Skull. First Master Mavis set up Fairy Tail here and the two had a feud ever since. The feud died down but it wouldn't be surprising if guild master Jose ended up angering Gramps somehow."
"Alright, but what does that have to do with me fighting someone?" Mira asked as she crossed her arms.
"Two guilds fighting each other is illegal, so a war between us probably isn't the smartest thing, nor is two Wizard Saints fighting each other while drunk. The old man could probably defeat Jose easily, but a building or two might break in the process. So having you and someone else from Phantom battle instead will be you acting as a representative of Fairy Tail."
"Any idea who my opponent is?"
"If you can get any more info out of the geezer than I can, then go ahead," Laxus spoke before he threw the crystal ball to the girl.
When she caught it, she turned the audio back on but turned it back off almost immediately when the old man's screaming voice nearly blew out their eardrums. "TINY!? I'LL SHOW YOU WHO'S TI-!!!"
The kids, who had only ever seen their guild master act with kindness and wisdom, couldn't stop their jaws from dropping at the sudden personality change. Mirajane, who had felt a sudden weight she couldn't explain fall on her shoulders, tossed the communication lacrima back to him before turning around and making her way back to her apartment, her brother and sister following shortly behind her.
"I'll...prepare and catch a train tomorrow morning."
"Wait."
Her hand on the door of the guild's entrance, she turned to look back at the blonde teen who had called out to her. As Laxus spoke, his usually relaxed demeanour changed to a serious expression making the thirteen-year-old involuntarily tense up.
"If you do actually end up fighting someone after the geezer sobers up tomorrow, then remember one thing. You represent all of Fairy Tail."
The rookie wizard clenched her hands as the source of the burden she felt became apparent with those words.
"I know. I won't let the guild down."

A/N: This was what Mira used to look and act like if you don't remember. Makes her personality switch jarring. (really hope the images work this time)
She even bullied Macao and Wakaba and I find it so funny that those two never caught a break.
