Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Missing kids
"Don't listen to her," the old man said with a heavy sigh, "She recently lost her daughter and hasn't recovered from it yet…"
"I'm not crazy!" the woman screamed, looking at the old man with fury, "I saw this creature! Only for a second, but I saw it... It was a demon, a real demon!"
"Can you describe this creature?" In his life, Eros learned to understand whether a person was lying to him or not, and such simple people were the easiest to read, and looking at the face of this woman, he saw only real horror.
It was simply impossible to fake something like this and Eros decided to believe her, perhaps she really did see a demon, or maybe it was just a figment of the imagination of an ordinary woman who had lost a child.
She shuddered and looked at Gildarts, who nodded as well. "He was…" the woman began to tremble, her gaze filled with fear, "He was at least two meters in size, completely black… He had four fingers with razor-sharp claws on his hands and feet," she sat down on a chair, "He had six pairs of red eyes and a mouth full of sharp teeth."
"A demon, huh?" Gildarts said thoughtfully. "Master, I believe her." "If so, then we still need to walk around the city," a grin appeared on the senior mage's face, "That same demon should attack us today, let's look at him up close."
"Thank you for the information, you've helped us a lot." The woman looked at the boy in surprise. "Let's go Eros, we'll have a sleepless night today."
"Wait, gentlemen," the surprised Elder exclaimed, "Don't believe that crazy woman."
"We will decide for ourselves who to believe, so step aside." The old man had no choice but to step out of the way and look sadly at the departing mages.
"I hope you can help our city…" the elder whispered quietly.
**************
Having left the tavern, both mages split up and began to wander around the city, asking people about the disappearance.
Basically, everyone actively cooperated and told everything they knew, but the mages did not find out anything new. Only that there were three groups of mages before them who came to the city, but all three disappeared the next day right from the inn. And no one saw anything.
When it was already dark, both mages went into the nearest park. So that if they were attacked, no civilians would come to harm and no property would be destroyed.
"What do you think?" asked Gildarts, looking at the beauty of the stars.
"The elder is being dishonest," Eros said thoughtfully, "The woman did not lie, the elder did not lie when he asked for help, as well as about the Duke who threatened, this is also true."
"You voiced my thoughts, I also think that he is not telling everything."
"So, all that remains is to wait for the attack, only then will we be able to understand more."
"Yes," a moment later Gildarts grabbed his stomach sharply, "Apparently, I ate something wrong," his face twisted in pain, "It was a mistake that we went to that restaurant…"
"I told you," Eros said with boredom, "You yourself wanted to save money, and went to the cheapest one."
"I'll go away for about fifteen minutes, don't go anywhere!" And without waiting for an answer, Gildarts abruptly jumped under the nearest bushes.
"And I assumed that we were here for a serious investigation…" Eros said with a tired sigh, looking around, "I really want to see this demon in person…" at that moment, he heard the rustling of leaves behind him and before he could turn around, his mouth was clamped by a large hairy paw and what surprised the titan the most was that he simply could not break free and when he was about to use magic, everything suddenly went dark before his eyes.

"Woo," Gildarts said with relief, "I thought I was going to die," he looked in surprise at the place where Eros was sitting, "Eros, where are you? Now is not the time for games, come on out! Eros!" The next moment his gaze filled with steel, "Come out, you think I won't notice you."
There was silence for a couple of seconds, until a two-meter creature jumped out of the tree, exactly like the one that the woman described.
"Well you are certainly very handsome." Gildarts's gaze moved to the opposite side, where another similar creature crawled out, "And you even brought your brother," with each second more and more creatures appeared in front of the magician.
"There are a lot of you," the magician drawled with slight annoyance, throwing off his cloak with his right hand.
The monsters began to growl at Gildarts, slowly approaching him.
"Hey, why are you hiding?" Gildarts exclaimed reproachfully, looking at the tree in the center of the park, on which stood the same kind of creature, but with a slight difference, its fur was red, "I guess you are the leader," a powerful pressure emanated from the creature, much greater than that of the black ones.
One of the monsters suddenly ran at Gildarts, but before he reached even a meter, he was torn to pieces. The others, who were about to rush in the same way, suddenly froze, and their fur stood on end.
"A bit weak," the wizard said with a grin, "Get down, I can destroy these with my eyes closed," the next moment, pressure fell on the clearing, so strong that it simply pinned all the dark monsters to the ground, "Or should I come myself?"
***********************
"Agghh my head," Eros said with a groan, opening his eyes, "Someone turn on the light and give me a drink," they handed him a mug, which he quickly emptied without thinking and returned, "Thank you…"
He suddenly froze, looking in front of him. His eyes quickly got used to the darkness and Eros saw a girl of about fifteen years old, with long brown hair, brown eyes and a calm smile.
She was wearing a white blouse and a long gray skirt. "You're welcome," she put the cup away and gave him a tray with some white liquid and a piece of bread, "This is your portion, eat."
"How long have I been here?" Eros felt his stomach growl and regretted not eating at that restaurant... Although remembering how Gildarts left... "A couple of hours, but I don't know the exact time, I'm sorry."
"No problem, thank you..." Eros peered thoughtfully into the girl's face, causing her to blush, "Have we met anywhere? Why does your face look familiar?" She shook her head.
"Yes…" the next moment, it suddenly dawned on him and he took out a thick stack of leaflets and quickly began to leaf through them until he got to a certain one, "Are you Julia?"
"Yes, how did you know?"
"Well, actually, I'm a magician and I came to this city with my mentor to investigate the disappearance of children," after his words, the girl looked at him in surprise and sighed sadly.
"You found us, but…" she pointed to the right, and looking there, he saw another cage in which there were five boys and one girl, a little further from this cage, there was another and there were also children in it, next to it was another, then another and another, "Not all of them are here, because every week, these creatures take away one of us and he never comes back."
"Ju, stop talking to him already, because he will be next anyway, there is no need to help him," a guy of about sixteen years old with short red hair, a big nose and blue eyes came out from behind Julia. He was wearing black pants made of cheap material, a shirt of the same material, and a sleeveless, buttonless leather jacket over it.
"Gary! Don't say that!" the girl exclaimed angrily, jumping up.
"Why am I next?" Eros asked in confusion.
"If you really are a mage, which I doubt, then you will be taken next," the guy chuckled. "After all, you are not the first mage here, there were already ten people before you, and as soon as they were brought here, they took them one by one until they ran out," he sighed, sitting down in the corner, "And you are a very unlucky guy."
"Why?"
"Today is exactly that day," the guy shuddered when a head with six eyes and a mouth filled with sharp teeth looked into the room. Eros also saw this creature, and raising his hand to face level, he showed it his middle finger. Of course, it is unlikely that it will understand the entire sacred meaning of this gesture.
"Are there many of these things?" Eros asked, studying this monster.
"Several dozen," he scratched his cheek in embarrassment, "That's what the magicians before you came told us,, they said that they were surrounded by several dozen such monsters."
"I see, thanks for the information," Eros said, going in deep thoughts, 'Now we just have to wait for Gildarts to come and I hope he will be here soon. I can easily escape from here myself, but I'm unlikely to be able to take the children and protect them from all these creatures.'
*****************************
Examining the carcasses of the defeated creatures, Gildarts only sighed and shook his head.
"You are not demons, but ordinary monsters, but I have never seen anyone like you….. Where did you bastards come from?" throwing the last red one into the common pile, his hand glowed white and the carcasses of the monsters disappeared the next moment.
"I hope that fool is okay," Gildarts's gaze was directed at a beautiful mansion three kilometers from the park, "I think it's worth visiting the Duke."

For all those who are wondering what happened to the harry potter fic, "good or bad, does it matter?"
It got blocked citing the reason that I had previously uploaded the same fic with the same name and because of it, the new one got blocked.
So I asked them, what to do now? And they said that you'll have to delete the old one to restore the new one. And I did so but it was still blocked and now they(WN) are saying that I will have to make a new book and upload it again. There is nothing they can do.
Well, that's all, to be honest, I am tired and am not going to make a new book and upload it all again.
One more thing for you all, head on to my p@treon, it is free, I want to talk about something else there.
Thank you.
