Chapter 250: Cunning Schemes

"This is Muria's aura!" Feeling the dragon might emanating from the undead fleet, Caslana looked towards it with surprise and confusion. "How is this possible? How can Muria be a legend? He was only at the second level of the soul intention realm."

But, recalling Muria's recent actions, Caslana began to think that perhaps Muria really could be a legend. This would more reasonably explain why Muria, even in human form, could overwhelmingly dominate a group of undead dragons.

Unlike the uncertain Caslana, Alvis, as an ancient gold dragon who had interacted with Muria, could certainly confirm what Muria's true strength and realm were.

Therefore, Alvis's massive and majestic dragon body plunged into the ghost fog without hesitation, flying towards the source of the dragon might. He needed to understand what was going on!

"What are you doing coming in here? Why not continue attacking and finish off Brent?" Barbossa looked up at the approaching ancient gold dragon, pointing at Muria with his sword. "Worried about this kid?"

"Muria, what's with the dragon might emanating from you?" Alvis landed on the ironclad ship, ignoring Barbossa.

"Captain Barbossa gave me a magical artifact that lets me disguise as a legend and pretend to fight," Muria answered, then added, "He gave me a piece of Eternal Spirit Gold as a reward!"

"Barbossa, care to explain?" Alvis turned to the great witch-ghost. It seemed a hefty price for mere pretense, even if it was the life-poisoning Eternal Spirit Gold, which was toxic to the undead. It was a legendary metal, after all – if unusable by one, it could be traded with others, far more valuable than any currency.

"I just want you to seal Brent successfully. I don't want the number of ancient dragons besieging him to decrease."

Barbossa no longer hid his malice towards the Death Dragon Rider. "If not for being a council member and bound by a pact, I'd have dealt with him myself."

"Why? Just because he didn't pay you for helping in the last dragon hunt, you want to kill him?"

"Of course not, that's a trivial reason. It's because I've found the location of Brent's demi-plane," Barbossa laughed loudly, opening his jaw wide. "Whether you seal or kill Brent, that demi-plane will be mine!"

"You're using us?" Alvis, in his human form, flared up in dragon flames, linking recent events since learning about Brent's revival. It all made sense now; these old creatures were all cunning in their ways.

"How can you call it using? It's mutually beneficial!" Barbossa looked jolly. "You successfully seal Brent, and I get an unclaimed demi-plane. Everyone's happy!"

Muria looked at the ancient witch-ghost, supposedly a thousand years old, with unease. Reflecting on Gold Dragon Lud's plea for help at Caslana's Mage Tower, it all seemed to be under the captain's control.

The Necromantic Council's century-old tradition of destroying nations was a rule, a tradition, immutable. But the choice of the nation to be destroyed was selectable. For a legendary peak witch-ghost, influencing the Council's choice wasn't a difficult task.

Choosing the Kingdom of Bavaria probably had to do with a privileged marquis there being a gold dragon. A certain captain needed a gold dragon to spread the news of Brent's revival among the dragons.

So, Gold Dragon Lud survived the pursuit of the legendary undead, not by luck or strength, but because he was deliberately let go to convey the message.

The dragons, upon receiving the news, would inevitably send ancient dragons to continue hunting Brent... The more Muria thought, the more shocked he became, wary of the deep-plotted witch-ghost captain.

Everything could be connected to this old captain - the ancient dragons getting the location of Brent... the undead and witches watching Brent being besieged... all under the machinations of a witch-ghost desiring a demi-plane.

Now, Barbossa had boldly stated his intentions, not caring if the dragons knew and thus might abandon the pursuit.

At this point, the ancient dragons wouldn't give up hunting Brent. It was an open scheme, leveraging the grudge Brent had drawn upon himself.

"..." Alvis glared darkly at Captain Barbossa, feeling used and manipulated as a pawn, which would sour anyone's mood.

"Why waste time staring at me like that? You want to fight me?" Barbossa chuckled. At this point, the outcome was almost certain, his goal nearly achieved. "Hurry back and fight, quickly deal with Brent. Then you can return to your Dragon God and Dragon King for your rewards. Isn't that great?"

"Hmph!" Alvis glanced at Muria, who was releasing legendary dragon might, looking somewhat uneasy.

"Don't worry, your Dragon King is up there. I wouldn't dare touch this descendant of the Dragon King," Barbossa waved his hand. "Once you deal with Brent, I'll send him back unharmed."

...After Ancient Gold Dragon Alvis flew into the ghost fog covering the undead fleet, intense explosions and legendary-level battle fluctuations emerged. Many thought it was Alvis and Barbossa clashing, but were stunned to see Alvis emerge from the fog, rejoining the battle in the sky, continuing to pummel the already crumbling bone dragon.

...

In what was once a bustling city housing millions, now reduced to a blank slate by the magical attacks of the ancient dragons, an intriguing scene unfolded.

In the sky, ten thousand meters high, fourteen ancient dragons were jointly suppressing Brent and his legendary undead dragons, nearing the end. It was evident to all that Brent was faltering...

Below them, the largest battlefield in the area, hundreds of dragons fought Brent's undead army. Thanks to Muria's rampage, the young dragons managed to hold their ground against the undead.

Around this largest battlefield were eight ancient dragons fighting small groups of legendary undead from the Necromantic Council. To the uninitiated, it would seem the ancient dragons were single-handedly battling two or three legendary undead each.

Of course, there was one battlefield with the most noise, where one of the fighting parties might not even be a legend...
