Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Slap My Face
The level-one blacksmith test is very simple; it just requires purifying a rare metal through a hundred-forge process. For level-two, the test requires the forging of corresponding components using the purified metals.
Once someone becomes a level-two blacksmith, they gain the qualification to take on tasks at the Blacksmith Guild, such as forging simple components.
Of course, components forged by level-two blacksmiths can only be used for low-level mechas or ordinary soul-guided devices. They are far from being capable of forging battle armors.
"You said you've never studied blacksmithing, right?" The receptionist girl was taken aback. Being stationed at the front desk at the Blacksmith Guild, she was well-trained in handling various customers, so she didn't react angrily, even though many others would've thought Summer Yi was just joking.
However, she didn't get angry. Instead, she smiled sweetly and said, "Besides, taking the blacksmith level test is a big deal. Even if you want to take the test, your instructor should accompany you so they can guide you."
In the initial stages of the blacksmithing test, it's allowed to have a mentor offer oral guidance.
Therefore, unless one is absolutely confident, most blacksmiths usually bring their instructors when taking the early-stage blacksmithing test.
"I don't need one. I can do it alone," Summer Yi shook his head, then raised both hands to grab the front desk at the Blacksmith Guild, which was made of granite.
With a surge of strength, the heavy granite desk, despite its numerous hollowed-out spots, was lifted up by Summer Yi by about three centimeters, much to the receptionist's shock.
"Ah!" The receptionist gasped in astonishment, almost unable to speak.
Though the granite desk was hollowed out in many places, its weight was still considerable. Not even ten strong men could move it, yet Summer Yi managed to lift it.
Summer Yi gently lowered the desk and looked at the still-shocked receptionist with a smile, asking, "Do you believe I'm a blacksmith now?"
The receptionist, looking at his frail and sickly appearance, couldn't believe her eyes. If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she would never have believed that such strength could come from such a small body.
"Respectful blacksmith, please forgive my previous rudeness. Please follow me," she said, bowing deeply to Summer Yi. Given his terrifying strength, she now firmly believed in his identity as a "blacksmith."
The blacksmithing test was on the third floor. As soon as they stepped out of the soul-guided elevator, the sounds of blacksmithing filled the air—metal clanging and forging sounds echoed all around.
The receptionist led Summer Yi to the front desk and spoke to the staff. "Please open a test room and bring a tester."
"Are you serious? Do you see his age? Is he even twelve? Are you sure he's really a blacksmith?" The staff member asked curiously as he looked at Summer Yi.
"It's not up to us to decide whether this young man is a blacksmith. It's up to the tester," the receptionist calmly replied.
The staff member nodded. He remembered how a year ago, Tang Wulin had arrived, so he didn't think much of it. He handed a form to Summer Yi and said, "Please fill this out with your basic information."
"Sure." Summer Yi took the form and filled it out seriously.
The receptionist read aloud, "Summer Yi, from Tiandou City, ten years old, a freshman from East Sea Academy."
Tiandou City was the background information Summer Yi had been given by Gu Yue, as that was her own origin as well.
Both the receptionist and the staff member were stunned.
To take the blacksmith level test at only ten years old was unprecedented in recent years, and if he passed the test, it would be something extraordinary!
Summer Yi didn't explain further, but quickly completed the form. He then casually remarked, "There was a girl who came up earlier. I want to be tested in the same room as her."
"This..." The staff member was momentarily unsure. The Blacksmith Guild was very wealthy and had many testing rooms.
To avoid interference from the sounds of blacksmithing, it was generally prohibited to have two blacksmiths in the same testing room.
The receptionist reminded Summer Yi that sharing a room could disrupt others, and the results could also be affected.
"I'll take the same room. I can wait until they finish, but they mocked me earlier and insulted me. I want to slap their faces!" Summer Yi said arrogantly, making it clear that he was a "blacksmith" in the most direct way. He simply wanted to observe the girl's test.
Perhaps, her teacher would provide guidance throughout the entire process, which could help him learn too.
"Why is this happening?" The staff member looked up, surprised, and asked the receptionist.
The receptionist sighed helplessly and explained what had happened earlier.
"Since you're willing to wait, follow me," the staff member said reluctantly. "But if they don't agree to you watching, you'll have to wait outside."
Not thinking much of it, he led Summer Yi to Room No. 5.
The so-called testing rooms were actually just blacksmithing rooms. Since the blacksmith tests had to be conducted here, the students were being evaluated on their forging skills.
The previous master and apprentice were already waiting inside, though the tester hadn't yet arrived.
When they saw Summer Yi enter, both of them immediately focused their attention on him.
"What's going on?" The elderly man, a level-four blacksmith, asked coldly. He was a level-four blacksmith and a member of the Blacksmith Guild, so he knew the rules well.
"Why is this country bumpkin here? This is my testing room!" The young apprentice, Wu Qian, sneered. She was filled with arrogance and disdain.
Summer Yi ignored them, finding a spot to sit and "meditate," though it was just an act. From now on, he would remember every word spoken by this level-four blacksmith.
"Master Aochuang, this young man named Summer Yi insisted on this room. He said he wanted to slap your apprentice's face," the staff member explained, helplessly recounting everything Summer Yi had said.
"Slap my face? Fine. Let him watch, but I'll show him how to do it," Wu Qian snapped, furious. Even though her talent was far inferior to other blacksmith prodigies, she had already surpassed her master and was predicted by him to become a level-five blacksmith.
Level-five blacksmiths could forge the rare metals needed for battle armor.
For Summer Yi to think he could slap her face was laughable. And the fact that he was meditating—was that supposed to be disrespectful?
"Wow, you agreed that easily?" The staff member was taken aback, then smiled. "Looks like kids just love to compete."
Little did he know, everything was in Summer Yi's control from the start.
