Chapter 52: Chapter 52: An Wen
A pair of stunning, almost dreamlike, blue-violet butterfly wings spread out beneath the azure sky.
The slightly ethereal wings shimmered with a metallic luster, their sharp edges glinting in the sunlight. Though primarily blue, the wings' hue shifted depending on the angle, sometimes flashing shades of violet or emerald green.
At the center of the butterfly wings was a V-shaped band of scattered white spots, resembling a brilliant river of stars flowing across the wing surface, radiating a pure, luminous aura.
A chorus of awe rose from the crowd.
What drew even more attention, however, were the two soul rings circling around the wings—yellow and purple.
The second ring alone had reached the millennial level, far exceeding the typical limits recognized by soul masters!
Once the students managed to tear their eyes away from the dazzling wings and the unprecedented thousand-year soul ring, they finally noticed the owner of these magnificent wings—a handsome young boy.
He had short, neatly trimmed light blue hair that gradually faded into pale pink at the tips. His features were delicate and striking, with a faint air of arrogance, and his irises mirrored the gradient of his hair, transitioning from pink to blue.
It was none other than Wang Dong.
However, an expression of irritation marred his face.
Hovering mid-air with his magnificent butterfly wings, the blue-pink-haired boy glared furiously at the shattered window below and shouted, "There's no room to fight in there! Come out if you dare—whoever loses will be responsible for cleaning duty this whole term!"
"Bright Goddess Butterfly? Interesting... Why would someone from the Clear Sky Clan have a Bright Goddess Butterfly martial soul? That's rare… And he's a boy too." Mu En, who had been reclining on a lounge chair pretending to be asleep, opened his eyes and murmured to himself as he observed Wang Dong floating in the air.
Wang Rui wasn't looking at Wang Dong.
His face was dark as he stared at the window's broken pane. Inside that room, he sensed a familiar, yet entirely out-of-place, energy—something that absolutely shouldn't have appeared at Shrek Academy.
"You... You think I'm scared of you?" A cold voice rang out from within the shattered window.
A boy, also around eleven or twelve years old, leapt out of the broken window.
He was tall and slender, a head taller than Wang Dong, wearing Shrek's white school uniform, though it seemed customized, with purple fur trimming the collar.
The boy had medium-length black hair, tied loosely in a messy bun, with a few strands of dark purple hair hanging haphazardly over his forehead and temples.
His facial features were sharp, from his mouth to his nose and eyebrows, giving off an air of cold intensity. Yet, strangely, he had a pair of round, cat-like eyes that contrasted starkly with his overall vibe. His irises, like Wang Rui's, were a striking gold, exuding a peculiar, icy inhumanity.
Huo Yuqing instinctively glanced at Wang Rui, only to be startled by the gloom on his face.
"What's wrong? Do you know him?" she asked, puzzled.
"Yeah, I know him. He's my... relative," Wang Rui replied grimly.
He couldn't comprehend why he was seeing An Wen—the only daughter of the Tiger Emperor An Yun and the biological child of Di Tian—standing here at Shrek Academy. She was his sister, someone he had grown up with, raised in the same lair.
An Wen was originally a Dark Nether Tiger, but her dragon bloodline had awakened, turning her into a Golden-Eyed Shadow Tiger. With spatial and extreme darkness attributes, she was a recognized half-sacred beast by fate and acknowledged by Wang Rui as his sister.
She was also Wang Rui's final contingency plan—a safeguard he had told no one about. If he were to die unexpectedly, the fate power within him would transfer to An Wen through their recognized sibling bond. If she were to die as well, the power would then return to Di Tian through their shared bloodline.
The fate of the Star Dou Forest could never fall into anyone else's hands.
How could An Wen possibly be at Shrek Academy? Even more baffling, why was she disguised as a boy and sharing a dorm room with Wang Dong, boldly exposing herself in front of the Tang-named God King's descendants?
An uncontrollable sense of unease welled up inside Wang Rui.
Though he had partial control over fate power—capable of observing fate, predicting causality, and influencing destiny—he was not a god. Unpredictable incidents could still occur.
An Wen's parents were both exceptionally powerful. Born with high intelligence, she had also signed a fate contract with Long Xiaoyao, the greatest human genius of his generation, two centuries ago, significantly accelerating her cultivation speed. Additionally, before his death, the Tiger Emperor An Yun had bequeathed a portion of his power to An Wen, helping her break through the hundred-thousand-year level.
With her talent and bloodline, surpassing the two-hundred-thousand-year tribulation should have been an easy feat. It was impossible that she would choose to reincarnate as a human. She should have remained in the Star Dou Forest, waiting to reach the level of a fierce beast before assuming human form.
In other words, under normal circumstances, she should not have appeared at Shrek Academy during this time.
Wang Rui carefully sensed An Wen's aura. Aside from a faint trace of familiar power, she seemed entirely human, without the slightest hint of soul beast presence.
Given that she couldn't transform between human and beast form as Wang Rui could, her human appearance had to mean one thing—she had reincarnated and concealed her aura through special means.
But human lifespans were only around two hundred years.
Wang Rui clenched his fists. Although he could preserve An Wen's soul or help her become Huo Yuqing's spirit and await resurrection once one of them ascended to godhood, the real question was: why had An Wen chosen reincarnation and re-cultivation?
It couldn't have been Di Tian's idea.
Even if An Wen wasn't Di Tian's biological daughter, as the daughter of Tiger Emperor An Yun, Di Tian wouldn't have allowed her to throw away her future like this, if only for the sake of his old friend.
Wang Rui briefly considered the possibility that Long Xiaoyao had deceived her.
No, Long Xiaoyao's family had merged with the Beast Sect a millennium ago, and he was Di Tian's personally trained disciple. His character had been tested and could be trusted.
Could it be that An Wen had run away on her own?
A rebellious one-thousand-year-old girl running away from home? Wang Rui's eyes grew sharp.
An Wen seemed completely oblivious to the fact that her brother was hidden among a group of first-year human students, staring at her with a sinister expression.
Her attention was entirely focused on Wang Dong, who hovered in the air, her eyes burning with fierce battle intent.
"Bright Goddess Butterfly? And your second ring is a thousand years old? I've never seen anything like that before. Let's see how powerful your thousand-year soul ring really is!"
"I don't need my thousand-year soul skill to deal with you," Wang Dong sneered, his expression filled with pride.
"We'll see about that," An Wen replied coldly, a smirk forming on her lips.
A layer of dark purple energy spread from her body, and a pitch-black spear appeared in her hand.
