Deva Wizard: The Great Xian in King Arthur's Realm

Chapter 40: The Kingdom’s Alphabet User

Before Lord Exel, there was a palm-sized metal plate.

*Aragon Family’s coat of arms*

That was the seal only given to people close to the family and the seal that Merlin had been carrying with him for years since he was a servant of Duke Cowe’s son, Arthur.

With a mask and white cloak hiding his identity, Merlin showed that seal.

He wanted to conceal his identity.

Even if making up a lot of identities was hard.

Whether being a young servant of the Aragon family or Elen, the Blue Cloak Shop’s great alphabet user, or even if he had to create a lot more characters, Merlin did not mind if, at the end of the day, it would benefit the hiding of his Xian vital essence. He was willing to do it.

Lord Exel was considered a weak wizard in Merlin’s perspective; he did not care about a figure of this level.

But if one day he had to encounter more powerful figures, true wizard warriors, Merlin was not so sure if he could defeat these people even though he had the incomplete power of the green alphabet; this power still had a lot of limitations.

From what he had experienced, it drained a large amount of power each time he used the magical alphabet. His present cultivation level was not enough to utilize its full potential.

Merlin would probably be at an advantage in a quick, short fight. But for a prolonged one, even if he had tons of power restoring potions, there was still a chance he would lose.

If he relied solely on Xian vital essence, it could be said that the stem-building-staged cultivation was not enough for fighting beasts. There were still limitations that should not be looked over.

The wizards in this realm had hidden claws; he was lucky to have a chance to meet Lord Exel, a high sorcerer. But if he had been a bearer of bloodline limit or some sort of bizarre wizard with high magical power, Merlin would have been in a difficult situation where he might never make it out alive.

One could say that the magical power was as marvelous as his Xian vital essence.

Merlin needed to have stronger cultivation. He used to be able to use this opportunity to close the practice gate and practice his Xian vital essence. But this part required a longer time. And if one day he achieved the blooming stage, surely that practitioner would be able to sense his cultivation.

It was too dangerous to face the blooming-stage practitioner he had previously sensed.

Therefore, to come out as a wizard was a way out for his survival. And studying and cultivating magical power could also strengthen him.

Besides, Merlin could also find fortune that helped him quickly boost his cultivation from, for example, the mysterious place where he found Lemegeton Eye or the Great Magic Tower with a magical power so dense that it could make him progress fast.

These things were great fortunes.

Merlin also had a thought to go back to the Great Magic Tower because other than the dense magical power suitable to be the cultivation resource, there was still one more thing that attracted him.

It was another piece of Solomon's possessions on the thirty-eighth floor, the highest floor of the tower.

However, going back to that place now was too risky; if Merlin went there without the Key of Solomon, he would probably be destroyed by Jǫrmungandr’s anger.

Besides bringing the key to Jǫrmungandr, Merlin still needed to prepare a backup plan if Jǫrmungandr broke his promise because there was no guarantee that when that old man was freed from his imprisonment, he would not hurt Merlin.

Even worse, since Merlin had a lot of Solomon’s possessions, it declared that he was the successor of Solomon.

And because Jǫrmungandr and Solomon were enemies, that made him more anxious about Jǫrmungandr‘s actions.

In the future, he had to study more about Solomon’s possessions; there was a possibility that all the five great magic books that Solomon left behind would be able to suppress Jǫrmungandr one more time.

Creating a lot of identities was a plan Merlin had set up; he might be able to use the benefits from these characters in the future.

In people’s eyes at the moment, the boy in the white cloak, who was a blue-level alphabet user, was as lofty as the sky.

In a short time, he could sweep through all the kingdom’s soldiers and effortlessly defeat a baron. The villagers were looking at him with respect.

Their eyes fixed on Merlin as if he was a hero—their savior.

What the boy did subdue them all.

After Lord Exel saw the coat of arms of the Aragon family, the boldness he had immediately disappeared; the spell he was casting was instantly undone.

A rain of rocks fell down from Lord Exel’s body. The rock giant turned back into a human.

Lord Exel undid his high spell and his eyes became meek.

There was no reason to oppose someone from the Aragon family, the protector of this kingdom.

Lord Exel looked up at Merlin’s body; what he saw was a boy in a white robe with, on the back, a cloak indicating the status of a magic practitioner floating in the air. Those eyes looked like sharp weapons demonstrating his power. Even the mask and the robe that the boy wore to conceal his identity could not hide how majestic he was.

As a known fact that alphabet users were rarer than anything. In this realm, the number of them could even be counted by fingers. But now, an alphabet user appeared in front of them. Most of them were ordinary soldiers and villagers; it could be said that they had no chance to meet an alphabet user even if it took them their whole lives.

Moreover, this kid also had the Aragon family’s coat of arms, which meant that he was the kingdom’s alphabet user. This was an unavoidable fact.

When Lord Exel was released from the capturing formation, he quickly bowed down to pay the child in front of him respect. This scene truly stunned people.

“Soldiers, please bow to the alphabet user of Aragon Kingdom.” Shouted Lord Exel’s strong, firm voice.

All the soldiers and alchemists followed his order right away; they did not dare to disrespect the kingdom’s alphabet user.

Now they all knew the answer that the seal was the symbol of the kingdom’s alphabet user.

“I, Lord Exel, Baron of Cesena, apologize for I have offended the kingdom’s alphabet user,” said Lord Exel in a sincere tone. Although he was somewhat arrogant, he was still a loyal servant to the kingdom. And the boy’s power and position were enough to make him bow down and act humbly.

All the soldiers and followers repeated after Lord Exel in unison. They could not even look up at Merlin because they were ashamed of their foolish actions earlier, and the boy’s status was also a part of the reason.

Hearing the instruction, the villagers almost performed prostrations; never once had they thought that Merlin’s identity would be this high.

Merlin did not deny anything about him being the kingdom’s alphabet user; on the contrary, he embraced it.

Merlin put the coat of arms back into the magical ring then said,

“I will forgive you all this time but there will be no second chance.” Merlin looked at them with cold eyes and continued, “Go now. Your job is done. I will take care of this mission myself.”

After the soldiers heard Merlin’s words, they trembled; they were aware that his power could easily kill them. However, Merlin chose to respond gently. Both the soldiers and Lord Exel were not severely injured or killed because of his kindness.

“Thank you, alphabet user.” With relief, the soldiers thanked Merlin for not making them pay for their actions.

They did not dare to disobey Merlin. Shortly, Lord Exel led his soldiers and alchemists out of the village.

So now, there were only Merlin and the villagers left. He looked around at the villagers separated into two groups: the sick ones and the uninfected ones.

Nobody was brave enough to directly look at Merlin’s eyes because of the power he performed earlier.

Merlin walked straight to both the severely and not-so-severely infected people. He used his disease-detecting ability from the past: looking at the veins in their eyes, checking their saliva and pus. He checked them without feeling disgusted.

It could be said that he had the doctor's spirit.

The villagers were admirably staring at the small alphabet user’s action. Merlin was not afraid to check them closely; he was not slightly scared of getting infected. Although he had such a lofty status, he was willing to get involved with the disease.

Merlin was much interested in the crystal disease; the affliction that could distill the human body into the magical power resource, the powerful Living Spirit Crystal. He spent three days studying this disease.

Then Merlin asked the village’s leader and the infected villagers about the source of this infection and the initial cause that made people catch this crystal disease.

Finally, he found something odd; not all the members of the infected people’s families became sick. Although they lived together, some of them were perfectly fine.

Merlin came up with a hypothesis that this crystal disease was not contagious as the villagers believed. Because if it had been so, nobody in this village would have escaped it.

After talking to the village’s leader, he learned that the first person who got the disease lived at the rim of the forest outside the village.

Realizing that, Merlin immediately went out to check the disease’s source. He went to the house of the first person who got infected.

This house was located close to a stream that came from the mountain. Most of the villagers drank water from it and some even excavated the ground for their personal uses.

And from the investigation, he found that most people who had the crystal disease used the water from this stream before the disease started spreading.

Merlin could guarantee that this was not a contagious disease, but worse; it might be a human’s doing, and possibly, a poison.

The source of the crystal disease could be someone with bad intentions poisoning this stream.
