Chapter 90
“Is it done?” I asked Ibrante, who was perched on the windowsill. Ibrante nodded, still amazed that she hadn’t been caught on her second visit.
“Yes, I’ve informed everyone. They all promised to respond within an hour. I’ll gather their replies and bring them to you.”
“Thank you for your hard work. As for the commission fee for this job…”
“Just one copper coin is enough. I took a lot last time, so I don’t need much this time.” Ibrante stuck out her tongue playfully and smiled adorably.
“I went all out because of what you said, you know. I even brought a few magic tool pouches. It was worth making a fuss over. I earned enough to support my younger siblings and myself for life, even if I quit being a mercenary now. I made more money that time than I have in my entire life. So, consider this job a bonus.”
“Your entire life… which is, at most, about ten years, right? You’re only eighteen, acting like you’ve lived forever.”
“…”
Her mouth snapped shut, and her eyes spun incessantly. She realized her mistake. She had accidentally revealed her true age, not the one she pretended to have based on ancient artifacts. Perhaps she had become too relaxed lately, with her pockets so full that they felt like they might tear.
“Well, I’ll be on my way now!” Ibrante said, and with that, she jumped out the window and disappeared in an instant. None of Igor’s knights in the Imperial Palace garden noticed her movement. It was thanks to the magic I had cast on her.
“Mira Crate.” William, lounging on the sofa with her legs crossed and enjoying a leisurely read, called out to me. I closed the window and turned around.
“Yes, Your Highness?”
“I want to know how much time is left until your plan is put into motion. We’ve been cooped up in here for a whole day already. Thinking about that arrogant man’s face makes my temper rise.”
After arriving at the Imperial Palace, we had remained confined in this room—a room that William had used in the past.
For reasons unknown to me, William himself had chosen this place for our confinement. As a result, I found myself in the strange situation of being in the former Crown Prince’s room with him.
“I’ve received responses from all the members of the Magician’s Association, and they have agreed to respond within an hour. So, we should be able to begin soon.”
“The Magician’s Association, you say?” Laura frowned. It was impressive that even she, the former Crown Princess, reacted to the mention of this group.
“I won’t ask about your methods since you seem confident, but dealing with them requires caution. They are the type of people who value magic above their own lives.”
“That’s precisely why they can be excellent hunting dogs if you hold their leashes tight. To use your words, Your Highness.”
I started to sit across from William, but he silently tapped the spot next to him, so I obediently sat down beside him instead. Laura closed his book and turned towards me.
“All we need to do is present the target, and then we can sit back and wait for the results. We will receive word that not only the Crown Prince but also the Church has been dealt with.”
With my response to his question about how we would deal with the Starlight Church left hanging, anticipation hung in the air.
“It’s quite fascinating, isn’t it?” Laura extended his hand and touched my cheek with his delicate fingers, stroking my earlobe, cheek, neck, and collarbone in turn. In the past, I would have been appalled, thinking that he was repaying my kindness with ingratitude, but now that he knew his true gender, it didn’t bother me at all. There was a world of difference between a man doing this and a woman.
“I’ve lived my entire life reigning above others, yet no matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to picture myself reigning above you.”
“…”
“I don’t even know why. So, I ask you, Mira Crate. Do you know why I’m doing this?”
“I don’t know either, Your Highness. I apologize.”
How would I know when even she didn’t seem to understand her own actions? Especially when her question was so abstract and vague.
‘…It’s becoming more and more explicit, though.’
Her fingers, which had been caressing my cheek, were now approaching my lips. Our thighs were pressed together, and the distance between our upper bodies had narrowed significantly from before.
Did she forget that she hadn’t revealed my true gender yet? If she had thought I was still a man, she would have flipped the situation on its head, regardless of her status.
“Not knowing is truly disappointing. I shall punish youuu…”
As Laura spoke with a seductive smile, her body suddenly trembled. Her crimson eyes became hazy, and her breath, exhaled between her lips, now carried a hint of ecstasy.
“Hmm… Huh?!”
Laura gasped, suddenly realizing the unusual state she was in, and clapped her hand over her mouth.
‘As I thought.’
The physical contact had become increasingly explicit, and now it seemed the time had come.
Ever since yesterday, she had been in this state roughly every three to four hours. I suspected it was the influence of the Succubus’s pheromones, albeit in extremely small amounts. After all, a Succubus was still a Succubus.
“Hwuu…! Uu…!”
Initially, it had only been a slight feverish feeling, but now it had progressed to the point where Laura was openly moaning and writhing.
Of course, Laura tried to endure and hide her symptoms in her own way. But what could have been possible initially was now beyond her control.
“Your Highness.”
“Ugh, hmm… What is it…?”
There was a reason I had let Laura’s condition deteriorate like this.
First, she stubbornly insisted that she could endure it and refused treatment. Second, I wanted to ask her something when her instincts began to override her reason.
“Do you remember? you said you would tell me Your Highness’ biggest weakness and secret in return for my loyalty.”
It seemed the time was right, as her instincts were now clearly taking precedence over her reason.
“Of course, I remember… Hmm, hah… Just… tell you… later…!”
“There’s no need. I have a hunch. Could it be that Your Highness is actually a woman?”
“……!!!!!!”
Laura’s pupils shook violently. She tried to get up, flustered, but her legs became entangled with mine due to her feverish state, and she fell towards me.
I caught her in my arms. Laura trembled as if she had been struck by lightning, and she looked up at me as she leaned against my chest. Her throat pulsed visibly.
“How… How did you… know…?”
“Did you really think I wouldn’t find out eventually? With how explicit you’ve been, anyone would have suspected something.”
“Then why did you hide it? I can understand the first time we met, but there were plenty of opportunities to tell me afterward. Did you want people to think you enjoyed homosexual relationships?”
“No, absolutely not!”
“Then why?”
I leaned in slightly. Laura flinched and shrunk back. However, her gaze remained fixed on my lips. Her breath, heavy with anticipation, quickened.
“Do I… hmm… really need to tell you?”
Laura’s eyes spun. Her hands, which had been tentatively touching my abdomen, now boldly explored.
“I’m just returning the favor. After all, Your Highness did the same to me.”
Laura’s hands fell away from my abdomen. With her face flushed, she averted her gaze, clasped her hands together, and whispered:
“I was embarrassed…”
“Embarrassed?”
“Being around you made me feel strange, and I couldn’t stop thinking about you. I wanted to be close to you… to make you mine… and I wanted to act spoiled around you… But how could I reveal the truth when I felt this way?”
“…”
If anyone but Laura had said they were too embarrassed to speak, I would have dismissed it as a lie.
But here she was, tears welling up in her eyes as she looked up at me, her cheeks flushed, her hands clasped together, her body curled up in embarrassment, and her thighs rubbing against each other due to her agitated state. Her words were incredibly convincing.
“I still feel the same way… I still want to be in your arms…”
Laura blinked rapidly.
The feverish state she had been in suddenly cooled, and her breath returned to normal. The Succubus’s pheromones seemed to have worn off.
I released her shoulders, and Laura, who had been twitching like she was having a fit, scuttled to the other side of the sofa, clenching her fists and avoiding eye contact.
After a long silence, she finally spoke:
“I have a request. Could you please go to the bed for a while? I’d like to be alone for a bit.”
“That’s fine, but first, you need to be treated. Your symptoms are getting worse. If we leave it any longer, who knows what you might do.”
Laura nodded weakly. She had stubbornly refused my offers to help since the symptoms first appeared, insisting on her pride, but now that she had openly displayed her desires, she seemed to have changed her mind.
Well, it’s her embarrassment to bear. I got the answer I needed, so it’s fine.
“I don’t know what method you plan to use, but I’ll follow your lead…”
I stopped Laura, who was approaching me with a whispered response, and cast the highest-grade barrier around the entire room.
It might seem a bit excessive, but considering the value of the magic I was about to use, it was more than justified.
Laura, unsure of what I was doing, snapped out of her daze when the distinctive mint-colored light of the status ailment removal magic enveloped her.
“What… did you just do?”
“It’s a magic that treats negative symptoms in the body, similar to removing status ailments.”
“With magic?”
“Yes.”
Astonishment filled her crimson eyes. I brought my index finger to my lips vertically.
“Please keep this a secret until I say otherwise. We don’t want this information getting out prematurely. At least, not yet.”
“…”
Laura was so shocked that she couldn’t even respond, her mouth hanging open.
As I started to dispel the barrier, I paused, sensing a minute magical reaction within it.
“Your Highness, is there another magic in the room that you’re aware of?”
“Aside from defensive magic, there’s nothing else. Why do you ask?”
Instead of answering, I stood up and walked towards the source of the magical reaction, with Laura following me, a puzzled look on her face.
The magic was coming from an old drawer in the corner of the room.
“The magic is coming from this drawer. It’s been thoroughly concealed. Most detection magic wouldn’t have found it.”
Laura’s expression sharpened.
“Open it.”
“Yes.”
I carefully opened the first drawer.
It was empty.
The second and third drawers were the same. The old drawer was completely empty.
“It’s empty.”
“I still detect magic.”
The barrier wouldn’t have made a mistake. So, it must be an invisible type of magic. I focused more intently on reading the flow of mana, and slowly, the outline of a magic circle began to emerge.
“It’s a sealing magic, and a very complex one at that. Did you ever hide anything in this room in the past?”
“I don’t recall… But can you undo the seal? Even if you have to break it, I won’t hold it against you.”
“I’ll try.”
I began to unravel the magic circle, a process that required a significant amount of effort due to its intricate nature. I wondered who had used such a high-level sealing magic and what they were trying to hide.
After about 30 minutes of struggling, I finally managed to undo the seal. The magic circle melted away, revealing what had been hidden within: a thin, old notebook with a blue cover.
I opened it, only to find it empty. Not a single word or drawing adorned its pages. Every page was blank.
“It’s a blank notebook. Do you have any idea what this could be…?”
I turned to Laura, only to find her frozen in place, like a statue.
