Chapter 40-One of those who ‘Lost’
“I already did. It’s the ‘key’ we’re after.”
“You sure?”
“110%.”
Olivia replied before pushing John out of the way and looking in Jamie’s direction, but she wasn’t looking at Jamie himself but one of the young Vampires near him.
“Isn’t that Fulgora?”
“Hmm? It is! Seren actually gave that to someone?!”
John couldn’t help but exclaim in shock when he saw the sword that a certain Vampire Queen had suffered for years to gather the materials to forge, in the hands of a young grandmaster who could not even use 1% of its power.
“That’s Davina. Vampire Queen Seren Evangelista’s Great-granddaughter who’s rumoured to possess the ‘Queen’s Blood’.”
The elf behind Olivia spoke up again, his words making the eyes of the two siblings widen in slight surprise.
“Queen’s Blood, huh? Guess we have a potential Vampire Emperor on our hands. The Progenitor Vampire’s blood is thick in her.”
“Very much so.
You should have seen the faces of those Tepes Clan bastards when they found out.”
One of John’s subordinates who was a Vampire spoke up with a grin on his face, his joy at the Tepes Clan’s misfortune very evident for all to see.
Folding his arms, he continued with a snort.
“They are apparently the real direct descendants of the Progenitor, yet they have never had anyone with the ‘Queen’s Blood’ in their bloodline ever.”
“There’s no ‘apparently’ about it. They ARE Progenitor Vlad’s real descendants.”
John tacked on that little bit of information before collecting the cube from his sister and tossing it into his pocket dimensional realm.
“I really wonder what was going on through ‘her’ head when she released information about Jamie’s location.
Why did ‘she’ want them to wake him up?”
“Probably so he can aid ‘her’ in stopping us or something.”
Olivia replied to her brother’s question with a hint of disdain in her voice, getting up from her seat and taking one last look at Jamie.
“She would have never expected Jamie to be weakened so much that he fell below transcendence.”
“Even if she did, it would not matter.”
The woman flicked her fingers and the ball made of the blood she had drained from the Sovereign fell onto the man’s body and drenched him in it before continuing.
“Now that we have one of the keys. We’re one step closer to fulfilling the goals of the ‘Witch of Chaos’…to fulfilling mother’s goals.”
Leaving behind those words, Olivia turned around and clapped her hands, wrapping companions in a spatial light and teleporting them out of the room.
◇ ◇ ◇
Staring in the direction of the 120-floor skyscraper in the city’s centre, Jamie heaved a deep sigh of relief as he sensed the gaze coming from somewhere in there had disappeared.
“Is there a problem, Lord Jamie?”
Davina asked as she flicked the blood off her blade and sheathed it, but Jamie only shook his head and replied.
“Nahh. I’m just relieved.”
“Relieved?”
“Yeah. Someone I know was nearby. Thankfully, she didn’t come over.”
David who was nearby tilted his head in confusion, joining in the conversation with a question asked between sips of blood from a blood pack.
“You’re relieved…your acquaintance…didn’t come over?”
“Don’t talk with food in your mouth.”
His twin sister admonished him lightly and forced him to finish his blood pack before saying anything else while Jamie chuckled a reply.
“I don’t wanna meet her right now. Especially considering I don’t have my full power.”
Wanete who was done dealing with the strange poison Jorin got infected with by one of the Arachnes they fought also joined in with a question.
“Do they hate you or something? Perhaps an enemy of yours?”
“No. The person likes me. And that’s precisely why I can’t meet her.”
Seeing the looks of confusion that appeared on the teenager’s faces, Jamie smiled wryly before explaining to them.
“There’s a possibility she might jump me the moment she sees me.”
“That’s why?!”
“I said, don’t talk with food in your mouth! You spit blood on me now!”
Leaving the two siblings who were about to begin bantering with each other again, Wanete kept asking more questions about this person Jamie supposedly wanted to avoid.
“Are you guys lovers or something?”
Considering Jamie was far older than she could even dare to imagine, she believed that he most definitely had a few lovers along the line, and some may be powerful beings who had ridiculously long lifespans and were still alive.
But Jamie’s next reply showed this particular person was not one of said potential lovers.
“No. We’re friends. Very old close friends. Like, the one step below best friend kind.
But she happens to have feelings for me, and said feelings are unfortunately unrequited.”
“Considering how you just friend zoned her, it is indeed unfortunate.”
David spoke while silently offering his condolences to this poor woman he did not know, wishing her better luck in her next romance.
“Oh…I thought you’d be lovers or something.”
“We’re not. And we cannot be, that’s why it’s unfortunate.”
The Hybrid answered Wanete with a hint of melancholy in his voice, before pointing at David and speaking.
“Let’s liken my situation to that of the protagonists of those animated shows you gave me to watch; the ones where they are in some romance drama and have multiple girls gunning for them.
But in the end, they get with only one out of the many girls and the others are left heartbroken or otherwise.
In this case, ‘she’ is one of those ‘other girls’ who ‘lost’.”
“Ohh…”
The analogy the man gave was frankly quite easy to understand, even for Nelo who didn’t really watch media in that genre.
And since there could not be any ‘losers’ without a ‘winner’, the five quickly figured that there was someone who Jamie was in a relationship with out there.
David made his curiosity about that person’s identity known and Jamie only chuckled and replied with a single line.
“She’s someone who’s just like me.”
After saying that, he seemed to remember something and teleported all the way back to where Hecragar’s corpse was, to meet and talk with the other Legendries before collecting the corpse while the Five Vampires, three of whom were actually curious about Jamie’s love life, pondered his words.
“Someone who’s just like him?
Perhaps…another Hybrid?”
The twins remained silent upon hearing Wanete’s words as they were not even sure if other Hybrids besides Jamie even existed.
