Chapter 30-Lonely at the top?
{Rupture!}
In response, the ground within a five-kilometre radius of him trembled heavily, before imploding into countless chunks, forming a maelstrom of earthen projectiles.
“Shit!”
“The guys on the ground!!”
The Legendries streaked through the air and towards the imploding ground, their own energies spreading out in waves as they interfered with the giant’s technique and prevented thousands of weaker adventurers on the ground from dying miserably.
But not all of them succeeded as the rocky missiles homed in on the assembled Legendries, like a force of nature that seemed almost impossible to escape.
The split second the Legendries needed to destroy these obstructions was enough for the ground to give away and plunge hundreds to their deaths.
Even so, they were still able to mitigate the damage and reduce the casualties by a great margin.
Jamie glanced at the Legendries of Clurg, turning his attention towards the foreigners who were only watching the situation like it didn’t concern them, only countering the earthen projectiles that came towards them.
**RUMBLE!
The foundation of the building Jamie was standing on trembled heavily, a mere second before it collapsed as the earth imploded and formed a rock chunk that shot towards him.
Dragged down by gravity, Jamie was on a direct collision course with the incoming projectile, but he flipped his body at the last second and punched downwards.
His fist collided with the misshapen earth chunk, with the force permeating through the entire construct in waves, neutralizing all its momentum and bringing it to a stop.
Immediately after, cracks spread out across the entire rock, all its law energy was forcefully dispersed and the construct was unable to maintain its form, disintegrating as if it never existed in the first place.
Spatial energy then escaped from Jamie’s body, affecting the space he occupied in the air and preventing his location from altering, releasing gravity’s hold on him.
“Now that I think about it, I haven’t flown since I woke up.”
He muttered to himself as he stabilized his spatial flight so he could maintain it for an almost indefinite amount of time without consuming any of his own energies whatsoever.
After doing this, he looked at the sky and sighed, his eyes glowing a bit as he spoke directly into the heads of the Legendries present.
[How have none of you noticed that this was a two-stage attack?]
“Wha?”
“?!”
“How?!”
A certain few were shocked that someone was capable of penetrating their mental defences and using forced telepathy on them, but most of them instantly looked upwards, just in time to see the appearance of the massive earthen chunks that had risen up into the sky.
“This…the Law of Concealment!”
Just as one Legendary shouted out, the giant swung two of his arms down and commanded, crashing down all the earth chunks raised with the previous technique down towards the ground with the force of a meteor shower.
{FALL!}
Even so, this was nothing before the might of a Legendary Realm existence, and could easily be blocked by one, much less more than two dozen of them.
They launched a barrage of high-speed projectiles that met the descending earthen chunks, obliterating the masses and shattering them into a cascade of harmless pebbles that fell gently to the ground.
{BAHAHAHA!! As expected of people on my level, you blocked that with ease!!
How did you like my greeting?!}
The giant questioned loudly after a short boisterous laugh; his lower two arms folded as he gazed at the Legendries with an amused glint in his eyes.
“A mere monster dares to test me?!”
One of them, feeling annoyed by the current situation and the gaze from the giant spoke out as he streaked across the sky, pulling back his fist and about to punch forward with his arm coated in dense law magic power.
But before he could throw his fist forward, a hand suddenly materialised beside him and grabbed onto his wrist, shocking both him and the giant as they could not sense the other party until the last second.
“Leave this one to me. Go after the other ones who are trying to burrow under the ground while this guy buys time, okay?”
“Huh?! Who the hell ar-”
“Okay?”
Jamie turned towards the man with his clear blue eyes shining, and the man instantly lost his mettle, shrinking back a bit in instinctive fear.
But the knowledge that the gazes of his peers were on him snapped him back to normal and he reabsorbed his magic power into his arm, before forcefully pulling his hand from Jamie’s grip.
He glared at the Hybrid for a moment, turning away right after and flying in the direction of the city’s second dungeon.
{You have quite the perception. That mole’s concealment abilities are top-notch as far as I’m concerned, and yet you saw through it.}
The giant spoke, not too bothered that he and the other Legendary Realm monster’s plans to break the other two dungeons had been discovered.
His duty was only to buy time while they burrowed underground in the direction of the dungeons, but his desire to fight someone strong took higher priority.
{I reached the top of the Dungeon’s food chain and felt lonely as there weren’t any beings who could give me much of a challenge anymore.
It was really lonely at the top, so when this little break happened, I came out to have a fight that would give me a thrill and avert that loneliness.}
The giant unfurled his arms and gazed straight towards the suit-clad Hybrid before concluding.
{And looking at you…it seems I made the right decision.}
He roused his energies in preparation for battle, but contrary to his expectations of Jamie doing the same, the Hybrid only covered his mouth with his palm, an attempt to stifle the peal of laughter that threatened to escape his lips.
“Pfft..hahaha!!”
Both the giant and the other Legendries who were still nearby all stared at the man dumbfoundedly as he suddenly started laughing.
“Lonely at the top?
That’s simply because you’re not actually there!
The real ‘Top’, is much more fun than you’d expect.”
Jamie’s words came from personal experience, as a being who had once reached the true top and had seen all there was to it.
Hence, the reason why he found the giant’s words about being lonely there to be laughable.
“Anyway, you said you wanted a fight, right?
I also want to recover a bit of my lost power, and you’d do for a nice exp bag.”
‘Though this would inevitably put me into the spotlight.’
That thought flashed through his mind as he roused his energy, releasing magic power from his body and into the surroundings in waves.
The giant snapped out of his confused daze after hearing Jamie’s words and let out a loud battle cry, punching forward just in time for Jamie’s released energy to coalesce into an array of crystal blue jagged ice spears.
Each one held a preposterous amount of magic power and shot forward so fast that the speed of them whooshing through the air only rang out after they had already reached their targets.
But their target wasn’t one to be taken down by simple ice magic, he raised his arms and struck forward, each fist destroying about 20 of the projectiles in one go.
{You think you can take me down with such a paltry attack?!}
