Chapter 19: Chapter Nineteen
The great hall was packed full with people. It was decorated beautifully with more than a hundred candles and ribbons of different colors. It was filled with aroma of food and wine and wonderful slow music flowed in the air, creating a serene and cheerful atmosphere.
Ron has never seen anything so magical. The candle lights made the ice blue walls glow, increasing the beauty of the hall. The thick curtains seemed to have been spun from gold. It made him really excited.
He was sitting at the high table together with Ludiciel, Mariel, Tariel and Sariel who were all looking radiant. The Queen mother, Princess Rose and the King weren't present yet. They were the only ones left. As soon as they arrive, the feast would begin.
The Prince couldn't wait. He was practically vibrating on his seat as his eyes swept over the large long table piled with different kinds of food.
"Prince Ron, calm down. The food won't run away" Leo, who was standing behind him said, placing a hand on his shoulder.
Ron gasped and slapped his hand off. "Don't touch my robes! You'll stain it before the King's arrival" he scolded.
He had gone through so much to look his best tonight. If anyone should ruin his appearance before the King arrives, there would be he to pay.
Princess Mariel chuckled. "You look very handsome Ron. Our Northern style seems as if it's made just for you"
His cheeks went pink. "Ah, thank you princess. You look stunning tonight"
Now, he had more confidence that the King would like him more.
Prince Ludiciel eyed them both but remained quiet.
And Prince Ron did look extraordinarily dashing. His features stood out the most on the high table which had all the present citizens of Netheridge staring at him from time to time.
Queen mother was absolutely right. Red was definitely Ron's colour. He was wearing a light red robe, decorated with golden patterns at the edges and a black belt resting around his thin waist. It complemented his auburn curls and made his emerald colored eyes stand out.
The candlelights also seemed to make his creamy skin glow.
As if that wasn't enough to make the ladies present take out their fans to cool down the temperature of their bodies, a lazy smile adorned his face, spreading those small plump red lips. The human prince was swoon worthy!
His beauty made the already married men envy him while the single ones wished he wasn't a prince. They would have tried to court him.
Everyone envied who the Prince's partner would be. Nonetheless, they would try to get a dance or two with him.
Princess Mariel wasn't excluded. This Prince of Ashenmore didn't even realize the extent of his own beauty. To make things worse, he was just so friendly and lovable.
The princess couldn't stop her heart from falling. The only thing stopping her from expressing her feelings was her very own big brother. If Zedekiel gets to know that she had fallen for the human, he'd definitely kill him.
"Where the hell are they?" Ludiciel grumbled. "They're going to delay the talent show"
"Are you going to participate?" Ron asked Ludiciel who shook his head.
"No. I just can't wait to see all the talents. Tonight will be fun. I can feel it"
"I'm going to play the harp" Princess Mariel put in.
"We're going to juggle!" Sariel and Tariel said which made Ron laugh.
His melodious laughter echoed in the hall, making the citizens sigh. How can a human be so enchanting?
"Are you still going to sing Prince Ron?" Ludiciel asked.
"Nah" the Prince replied with a wave of his hand. "I've decided to not do anything. Watching is enough for me"
He smiled inwardly. Of course he would still participate. Just that, his own would be a little different.
The heavy oak doors of the great hall creaked open and a short man announced; "Presenting, his Majesty the King and the Queen Mother!". He went to the side and bowed. "Long live the King! Long Live Queen Mother!"
Everyone, including those at the high table stood up and bowed deeply. They all repeated; "Long live the King!" "Long Live Queen Mother!"
Out of everyone in the hall, only Ron raised his head slightly to see the King and his breath was taken away.
Zedekiel looked regal in his black and gold robes. The golden threads were woven within the black, creating the pattern of dragons. His smooth skin, white as snow was a beautiful sharp contrast with the black, giving him an other worldly presence. His silver wavy hair was let loose, gently grazing his shoulder. The cold looking silver crown atop his head with the red ruby in the middle made him look like the great King he is. Those violet eyes stared straight at Ron, as if they were peeking right at his soul.
Ron's body shook vehemently but he didn't lower his head. Not one bit. It wasn't as if he wasn't scared, no. In fact, his knees were shaking from the intensity of Zedekiel's stare. It's just that, he didn't want to look away. He wanted to commit every inch of the King to memory.
Queen mother was dressed in plain pale pink flowing robes. The colour complemented her skin and brought out her grey eyes. Her hair was packed into a low bun intertwined with tiny white flowers. She was still a beauty.
The now perceptive Queen Mother saw this exchange between King and Prince and she couldn't help but smile. It seems as if the heavens agree with her. There was surely something between those two. She'd have to do something about it.
When the Queen mother and Zedekiel got to the high table, Ron stood straight and went to help her with her seat.
"Mother, you look gorgeous" he said, giving her that radiant smile of his. His voice was soft and sweet, tugging on the heartstrings of the females who had already fallen in love with him.
They cried in their hearts, envying the Queen mother.
"Thank you Ron dear. You look so handsome. Red is definitely your colour" she said, planting a kiss on his cheek to which the boy blushed.
"It's all thanks to you mother"
The King and his siblings watched this exchange with open mouths. Their mother wasn't this soft with them! Why this human prince?!
