Chapter 39: Hidden quests
POV Callum
I was currently on the fifty fifth floor making some minute changes to the landscape, adding mountains, passes, and more monsters overall just making it even more dangerous. I had been doing this to the thirtieth through sixtieth floors mostly because the floors before the fiftieth were becoming more and more populated. Then the one higher than the fifth I didn't want people to climb as easily.
"Let's see here" I said to myself.
Looking at the boss monster; a giant earthworm; I decided to change it. Although a powerful monster it was definitely one of the weirder boss monsters. I opened my monster creation function and copied the boss into it. Then I made it grow some black scales, changing its head from a worm to a snake. Then giving it better eyesight then a snake would generally have. As a last minute change, I made it a bit larger as well.
[Would you like to change the boss monster to your custom one]
"Yes"
I watched as the worm disappeared and something more terrifying took its place.
"That should work"
After finishing the changes, I transported myself back to the fifth-floor throne room, but before I could make my way to my chair an elf stopped me.
"My Lord"
"What is it?" I inquired.
"All across the floors guild members have been yelling out your name"
"What?"
"They have been yelling your name my lord"
"Okaaay" I drawled out "Why"
"Something about the guild master wanting to see you"
"Well, that is one way to contact me? Still strange though"
Waving the elf off I transported myself directly into Goshen's office. I laughed as he practically jumped out of his chair.
"I heard you had a few hundred people yelling my name throughout the tower?" I questioned.
He composed himself before answering "Yes, I didn't know how else to contact you"
"As rude as that is, it is alo rather hilarious to imagine all those warriors just shouting throughout the tower. What is this about?"
"The fire Lord has been bothering me to ask you to meet with him?"
"About what"
"He says the placement of your gate but who knows what he is really planning"
"He is a monarch of a nation. It would be strange if he didn't have ulterior motives," I said, rolling my eyes. "When is this meeting"
"It was supposed to be last night hence why he has been bothering me so much"
"Hahaha, that is unfortunate for him, tell him I will meet him tonight. Let's say around six, and that I expect food"
"Alright I will have a messenger sent"
"How is the guild doing?"
"Despite the large amount of paperwork it is doing quite well and has become an essential part of non-climbers getting specific items from the tower"
"Good, that was the intention"
Looking past me Goshen said "It's strange to think that a little over a year ago this place was just a small operation barley getting off the ground"
"Yeah, my tower has become essential part of all nations"
"Speaking of which, Ba Sing Se has finally sent a letter"
"What does it say"
"It seems that some of our magical items and potions have made it into the city, they are requesting a guild representative meet with them"
"Interesting, well you are the guild master do whatever you want"
"You're not going to get involved?" he asked.
"I can't get involved in everything, like I said to me they are more trouble than it's worth. Just let me know if I need to drop a gate there"
"How will I contact you, the screaming around the tower thing barely worked"
"True let's try this"
[Quest]
[You have been tasked with securing a place for the gate in Ba Sing Se]
[Rewards: 3,000 XP, gate access]
"That might work," Goshen said.
"Has Bumi agreed to having a gate put in yet?"
"Not really, he's pretty adamant about not having one there"
"I would just drop it on the city but ninety nine percent of it is houses and buildings"
"You could always drop it outside the city?"
I paused; having been so focused on the city itself I had missed that very crucial detail of what I could do. Thinking about it now I felt that certain kind of stupidity you only feel when entering a room and forgetting why you are there.
"That is not a bad idea" I replied "Send Bumi a letter that I will be dropping a gate outside his gates soon, make it clear that it will happen no matter what"
"I don't mean to be rude but can't you just send a quest or something?"
"I could but this way most of his anger or annoyance will be directed at you" I said smiling.
"Fine," he said exasperated.
"Now if you will excuse me, I have things to finish"
Before he could reply I had teleported myself to the fifty fifth floor. Looking around I found a suitable place near the entrance and started raising a large mountain. It was quite jagged, never having a clear way up. The path that was there broke several times making sure that people needed to free climb and jump just to get anywhere. Once I was done making the path I made my way to the top moving to the side of the mountain I hallowed out a cave making sure the path would lead you here if you followed it correctly.
"This is going to be a real test of someone's mental resolve," I said to myself.
Bringing up a stone at the edge of the cave I put some incoherent scribbles on it to make it seem like there was writing. Then I attached a notification to it.
[Jump down into the cloud]
The best part was that there were no clouds below and the quest would only activate about halfway down the steep cliff.
[Quest]
[Congratulations you have completed a hidden quest. By willingly jumping down the cliff face proving that you are willing to give up your own life to pursue the mysteries of the tower]
[Rewards: 1,000 XP, Nimbus]
"Time for the next one"
Transporting myself to the sixty eighth floor I went to the direct middle of the floor and started burrowing a massive hole in the ground about a mile in diameter at the top. Then on my way down I made the hole get smaller and smaller in sections. As a next step I created an elaborate series of tunnels throughout the whole turning it into a giant ant nest.
Then I pulled up my monster creation function. Fortunately for me I already knew what I wanted from this creature. The white spikes from the movie 'The Tomorrow War' of course I beefed them up with skills and abilities. I created thousands of them by dropping them into the hole making sure to put in a rule that they can't go far from it. Don't want them taking over the entire floor. Then at a pedestal at the bottom I put a palm size black stone then attached a quest to it.
[Quest]
[Congratulations you have completed a hidden quest. By braving the nest, you have demonstrated your resolve to explore the tower even to its deepest depths]
[Rewards: 10,000 XP, class change stone]
The class change stone was a unique item as it allowed people to change their class and keep their previous class abilities. Although you would have to start from the beginning of another class with the way skills work it would allow someone to diversify their abilities vastly increasing their range of power. The downside was that you would lose access to your current class and its evolutions.
"That should do it for today, next let's get ready for this meeting that the Fire Lord was so desperate for. I wonder what his actual aim is as I doubt, he needs my input on where to put the gate"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey guys author here. Just wanted your input on whether I should do another story that I had the idea for a few years ago. The title at the time was Legend of Zelda: Merlin. It was meant to be set in breath of the wild/tears of the kingdom. Let me know if you want me to start this after this current story.
